  3. Visit 'The Stick Makers Guild' on here. Everything you would ever want to know. (Sorry, should h ave said Google )

  6. In fact, somewhere on here there is a pic post of 2 of my earliest sticks. The pheasants beak had been broken off whilst beating the dog for a bad retrieve lol.lol. Jok.
  7. Eh up John. That box was before I started putting on the latch between ferret and storage compartments. Cheap as chips and an easy mod. If the wee man is bending the grill just put another couple of small screws top and bottom. All a learning curve guys. Jok.
  8. There's trout in every river in the land mate, but you are right, got a find them. If you know what you are looking for you'll spot a rise or boil, whereas if you don't you won't. Us purists use dry fly and nymph. Heathens use more agricultural methods like worms and maggots and bread and minnows and spinners and, and, and. I guess they catch more though lol. It's bloody good fun whatever. Jok.
  9. Forest. Sorry pal .was having one of them rambling moments. My neighbour just gave me a bagful to give to the chickens. No offence. Eh Terry you are looking a bit like on top of the job. Great stuff. I've started cooking again so if youv'e anything interesting I'd like to hear about it. Whatdog.can't grow anything under slabs but like your post. I've just put up one of my old marquee frames as a tunnel. Managed to get some commercial poly from the local strawberry grower so should be ok. Really enjoyed this summer and looking forward to winter. One of our growers has come up with winter beetro
  10. Just needs pipes, cradles, cuddly toys, mobile phones/s and all the other bits and you are in business.,lol. Looks pretty good pal and if youv'e kept the queens shilling in your pocket all the better.
  11. No son I haven't. Wish I could help. I've one last holly which is going to be a dormouse coming out of a hole . Very intricate but hopefully worth the effort. Beauty of holly is the lovely white wood and as hard as nails. Try finding a few knob sticks on your days out. Blackthorn is great because it's hard and got a lovely root stock. Don't try cutting hazelnut just yet as the sap hasn't yet gone down. As for ash, any roadway bank and you'll see the saplings springing up at an angle to the bank. Cut them long to allow for drying pre shaping. I bet ther's thousands of shanks sitting up and down
  12. Afternoon John. How's it hanging pal. We're all getting going down here. 19 rabbits, 46 woodies and a big fella. Not even found any mushrooms yet. Jok.
  13. Eh up son. How's things. Trying you hand at the sticks are you. Done a few myself, and the best were natural root sticks from the hedgerow. Mainly ash, hazel, blackthorn and holly. Went down the route of steaming, clamping and pressing Rams horns but didn't enjoy it nearly so much. In the same way you go looking for a decent catty fork I used to look for stick material. Made a lot and signed each one with a jay feather varnished onto the shank. Jok.
  14. Still got yours hanging in the workshop pal. Still busy with the tents. Jok.
  15. See there's one or two on EBay. Might be worth a punt.
  16. Go on Chick. Told you it was going to get going. Hope everything is well. Jok.
  17. Good luck for both reasons. Might you be in the Midlands? Jok
  18. Hello you. Good thing going there. Are they all working ferrets? Leics and roughly where are you.? I just met a guy who lives and works very local to me and we have arranged a bit of a meet. He's working in Ashby de la Zouch. Flipping small world really on this forum. I agree, good intro and look forward to more comments. ATB. Jok.
  19. Don't think I'll starve either Les. The other morning, 19 rabbits at my door and this morning 49 woodies. Trouble is, I'm trying to work as well. Lol. I think my butcher friend is going to be happy. Jok.
  20. Got at least ten of them kinds. Oh and they take themselves for a walk without a care. Fcking pricks.
  21. Slightly of the scal but with the same problem. Did a marquee job for a distinguished Coloured gentleman. When I returned to take down, the mess was appalling. My guys refused to clean up as this, quite rightly, is not their remit. Well being a kind of do as you do kind of guy, I shit on the front seat of his Mercedes. That got things sorted. Jok
  22. Outstanding. Possibly the most outrageous ever. Must admit, my kind of fodder. Jok.
  23. Sir blessed. We are about to get started. Mostly at the moment it'll be rifles but not long now till the mingers are out. In our area, Midlands of UK , we seem to have plenty to go at. I've no doubt you'll be seeing plenty of pics of our trips out. Jok.
