Digging Dogs. Figure/ornaments
redquil replied to resistance's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Last one is a Border F[ne Art. Often on Ebay that one. Great time to buy them now as there prices have plummeted in recent years. -
Classic. I still love it as an old lad.

Do not get a Ridgeline mate. Not worth a shackle. Ok for sitting out in or on quad. Fully water proof for a couple of month but after a few good tousings they are like a dish cloth. Take days to dry out and stink. As soon as you start walking in one you start sweating and end up soaking wet.Good in the wind but you have to get your under layer spot on. Take no notice of the knacker on YouTube save your cash . Ps the trousers are worse.

To add to this. Any dog thief , any one knowingly dealing, kenneling,or even being in the same company as the scum should be named . Ostrised and blacklisted in the dog game. No allowance no exceptions.Never mind "He stole a dog 20 year since but he is ok now". There is more than one way to skin a cat. Torture them if it be known who they are. And I don't mean with violence though this would be preferable.

Regarding the yearly booster. A while since in the Daily Mail I read there was 50 named vets claiming yearly boosters being uncalled for. I for one have never had yearly boosters to dogs after 1st jabs. Vets in short IMO are conmen. Vets are also supposed to offer a prescription for meds that are non urgent. How many do?

Cracking bit of history there mate. Do you know when the last dogs were taken over there ? I believe Joe Mallon used to send dogs over there. Do any of you boys know when the last ones were?

In these books there is a photo of two deerhounds taking a red deer and also pics and accounts of working Cairn Terriers . I read these about 40 year ago cracking books. He was one skilled countryman. Also an account of 11 foxes feeding on a carcass in a real hard winter.

If you look on the vast majority of drawings you will see the dogs are doubled up at the least. In Lea McNallys book Highland Year there is a photo of a stag being taken by two deerhounds. Late 60's or early 70's book but I think the photo was a lot earlier. Having said that were deerhounds also used for bringing down wounded deer for stalkers?

So is it Blue Poll or Paul? Sure I heard Seaton Burn in Northumberland stated somewhere. And what I read was a long way before Breays era.I agree with what someone said before that it was most likely a local pit type.

And shit roll.

Read about the Blue Poll (I thought it was Paul) in I think was a Plummer book.Think they were from Seaton Burn area of Northumberland. He named a man or family but i thought (wrongly) they were from an era long before Cyril Braey. Find it very interesting any more info on these Blue poll dogs boys?

Some boys are using them at dawn/dusk as well as in the dark.Talking to a man with a gamefarm not long since. He has shot 40 odd xmas to end of Feb from his bedroom window 1st night 5. He was stakeing dead birds down n checking with thermal every half hour or so while watching tv.When he got to 40 odd he said there was nowt coming in anymore. This aint control or sport it is mass destruction.Seen it used on a few times and it was like those night scenes off tv. What you see is staggering. When you got the wind right hares n deer don't know you are there. This was a few year since today they ar -

Forget lamping, infra red etc. Thermal is now king and far far superior. First seen it a few year back and was amazed but my heart sank thinking of the future. There are lads who aint seen a thing for weeks in the beam then 1st night with thermal are shooting 3s 4s and more.Nothing knows your there, nothing gets shy, and real easy to use. I'm no shooting man but have nothing against it however as ive said before thermal will be the ruin of the fox population. No matter how many you think there are it aint a bottomless pit. -

I reckon thermal is going to be our sports and the foxes down fall. That's just off the shooting men. When it comes down to the track suit n trainer brigades prices and it is coming down in price everything with four legs will be endangered. Hope I'm wrong. -
Can mind reading about some market down the country back in the late 1800s that was noted for selling foxes imported from France. Foxes were fewer then and it said Hunts bought them for stocking purposes. So back then native blood was being diluted. Sure book was Town Fox Country Fox by Robin Page?

There was also a case in England a few year back where human bones were found scattered over a woodland floor.Police said body had been disturbed by wild animals. Later in court case the bones were said to be scattered over a large area.Again could only be a couple of culprits doing the eating.

Very nice. Be interesting to know if he reared it. Those Morocins ,Algerians etc are a different class though IMO. Having said that it looks more of a living to them. Some of there Goldys n Mules are outstanding. They have canarys being mated off Goldys on cage tops n hands outside. Goldys free flying.

Lovely bird and nice to see. Must be an imprint? If you like hand tame goldys YouTube Mourad Chardonneret from Algeria makes us Brits look a million years behind lol.

Thanks Navek, Neil , and Claude. Seen 4 Cobra brothers 20 year since at a show and all 4 won there class. However aint seen anymore since or heard a lot about them.Nice looking birds would have been 5to 5half pound mark. More athletic looking than other Asil. I reckon they would be a very chancy half x. Any boys out ther got them? atb.
