Cheers mate, to be honest it's more the rarity, and novelty that has got my attention, there are some far more impressive looking hares on this land, dark ginger red coated and physically stronger looking, I've always thought they were the older ones that have managed to survive for a few seasons Cheers mate, to be honest it's more the rarity, and novelty that has got my attention, there are some far more impressive looking hares on this land, dark ginger red coated and physically stronger looking, I've always thought they were the older ones that have managed to survive for a few se

Seen brindle - grizzle fell types 35 year back in Northeast eastcoast. These were in Lemington just West of Newcastle. The ones I seen were bred or bred from Geordie Grahams dogs. Ugly but good grafters and over hard for my liking. There was a few in that area up until around late 80's id say. That mans son and family kept them on for a bit. Seen them on a little back then . No idea where the colour came from though. Also met an old lady with one back in early 80's said she got it from Ralph Hodgson who was an old terrier man in his 80's then. Other than bull blood the only other terriers with

You can't believe some of those tatty old wagons and drays are now worth fortunes. Fully restored and painted you can't believe there past. If only they could talk. There is family's bought them back decades after they were sold. As I stated in another post however Barry Cockcrofts Romany Summer soon takes the shine and romance of wagon living. The mint show pieces seen today are a far cry from what the average family lived in times gone by.

That old man won't be to worried about much now that's for certain. Nor will his dog . That bunny probably would have made a big difference to his meal that night.

Sure it is on youtube Haiddheliwr. Definitely clips if not whole film . When I say dogs mate mongers and he talks of dogs in pub at Appleby. Like I said soon dispels the romance. -

Great pic Marshman. For you lads who are interested in Romany life n culture watch Barry Cockcrofts Romany Summer. Filmed early 1970's. Cocker Smith and family wi his horses n dogs. Very good documentary but soon dispels the romance of living in a wagon with a family. For the lads about now who go on the road to Appleby n a few other fairs etc its great, but when it was full time must have been a real hard life. No wonder the wagon culture was relatively short. Any more pics Marshman? atb. -
Was told that some birder has reported a House Martin in Hawick but aint sure how accurate this is.

Purely Show Lurcher V Purley Working Lurcher
redquil replied to jerry attrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
True words I fear. My thoughts being very like your own. That's what will end houndwork I fear the chopping up of land with roads n building etc.Not to mention unspoilt land where hunting aint allowed. By that time there will probably only be show ponys no game left anyway.Plus jungle camps all over country. Bet they will have rats in em mind.atb, -
Purely Show Lurcher V Purley Working Lurcher
redquil replied to jerry attrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I can mind back in late 70's when I was a kid and just discovered lurchers and when I spoke of them most people not all granted didn't know what a lurcher was! Your right never seen a lurcher about then other than with people who grafted them. Things aint gona get no better with some of the wanabees getting in to the game these days. The real oldtimers will be turning in there graves! Rolf the nonce Harris done em the world of good at animal hospital mind atb. -
Purely Show Lurcher V Purley Working Lurcher
redquil replied to jerry attrick's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
It worrys me producing a lurcher purely for show. Just look what has done to a lot of the other breeds of dog out there in a relatively short space of time. Look no further than some of the so called working terrier showman.Showing and doing it are two very different things.Show racing pigeons, gamefowl, welsh cobs etc all down the road to ruin. Hats off to all the boys who care nowt for what they look like but more for how they perform. When I was younger I was in ore when I went to my first lurcher n terrier show, now the odd time ive been forced for a better word to go to a country fair I avoi -
Hope your wrong mate. However I fear you are very right. Everybody I talk to carrys the same tale wipeout. I know of places where numbers aint been big but fairly healthy . No shooting no ferreting nowt. These places are now barron of bunnys , no corpse's nothing just gone.Very sad mine and a lot of other boys hunting bread n butter. The only positive I can see is that rabbits are great comeback kings. The original mxy onslaught of the 50s proved that here, ozz and many other places. I'm sure it was a French boffin who created it in a testube.atb
