  1. There are lots of sport going on: golf, cricket, boxing........ I don't want to watch it. Same with women's football. The problem with women's football is that the tv companies and newspaper editors think that we should be made to watch it. We are forced to encounter it because they smuggle it into everyday sports coverage. You read a headline like Man City make a bid for Williams and only after you have clicked the link do you realise its women's football. That is my gripe. By all means cover it, but stop trying to pretend that it is as popular as men's footy. At the moment it ranks alo
  2. On the lower Ebro the authorities were prosecuting EEs for commercial fishing. Now they don't bother as the fish they are catching and selling are regarded as undesirable. I got a no-kill licence to fish in Catalonia. As far as I could see the only places where additional licences were required was for trout fishing. There are barbel in the Rio Ter, a species called ebro barbel. I was briefly attached to two earlier this year. If you are heading down that way drop me a pm and I can put you onto a cracking swim full of mullet with a few 6lb+ barbel amongst them. Cast the other way and you
  3. There are laws against it. But they are rarely enforced. There are a growing number of people in Spain who want all invasive and non-indigionous species to be removed. How they could do that is debatable, but they want all carp, catfish and the roach, rudd, bream unused livebaits that have been tipped in by anglers from the UK, Holland, Germany, etc. to be removed.
  4. It was much the same when I started match fishing around 1970. There was an old bloke who always wore a Gaberdine mac and trilby. He was like a robot on the Trent, fishing stick float and centrepin. He always did well. Those coach trips to the Lincolnshire and Nth. York's rivers in summer and the winter matches on the Trent were brilliant. I was in two clubs, both run by Barnsley area WMCs. One was match fishing and the other inshore boat fishing. The outings were fortnightly on different weeks so one week I'd be off Scarborough or Whitby and the next on the Swale or Witham. All the angle
  5. I have admit my ignorance on wopsts. I only know of two types; the waspgrub wasp that we used to dig up the nests of for fishing bait and the dangly legged wasps that make small, tangerine sized nests in my fishing jacket that is hanging up in the basement doorway. You can safely remove the nest while the 6 or 7 adults watch on. All the rest is a mystery.
  6. I knew it! It's a bloody Kinder egg full of €500 notes. I hope the tax man doesn't get wind of it ?
  7. But he did mention something about hiding money from the tax man last month
  8. Size of an egg? Not cancerous? Kinder makes you think ?
  9. Talking to a mate today about classic cars. The Karmann Ghia is my all time (since I was 15 anyway) favourite. I would love to own one. Nearest I came was 3 Beetles, also 3 MGB's, 1 Triumph Stag, 1 Triumph 2500, 1 Triumph 2000, 1 Triumph Spitfire and a Lancia Beta. But, the VW Porsche lookalike is still on my bucket list.
  10. Do you think he should wear his orange shooting jacket? ?️
  11. Just go into any gun shop in Glasgow and explain to one of the customers that you are new in town and ask him to step outside. He'll oblige you.
  12. Some people just can't take a hint. He's probably the max hardcore of the Yank sites looking for a new audience. I've seen some good fishing forums ruined by Yanks.
  13. To keep British farmers in jobs.
  14. It will be sandymere
  15. In addition to the last two posts: don't use pigeons unless they are inside a stocking. Patridge are better. Ask a breeder if they can save you a few dead adults. I hzd a dog that was reluctant to pick up and retrieve. I solved it by sending the dog to retrieve then when it got to the bird and looked back I ran off towards my car. The dog grabbed the bird and ran after me. Big praise and job done. It was that simple. But, it might not work in your case as every situation is different. When training police dogs to retrieve objects for trials work we started by having the dog sit in front
  16. I don't want to pull their heads off. I like them to have a sporting chance.
  17. Privatisation of care homes was commenced by Thatcher's government, but embraced and continued by Bliar. For me, if a council run care home costs £X to run then how can it be cheaper to run with someone taking a profit out of it? The only way is by lowering standards for the end users, i.e. us eventually. In reality, the privatisation has resulted in it costing more, not less with an unacceptable lowering of standards.
  18. They've got a baluga whale in the River Seine now. Couple of months ago there was an Orca in the river. If this continues I'm going to upgrade my rods. I reckon 3lb test curve should be OK.
  19. The care home staff are usually unwilling to get 'hands on'. We weren't there so we don't know the full story, but it should have been possible to contain him until he became more passive. Just moving some furniture around to pen him in ought to have been enough. I've been in a few situations where knives were used to threaten people and it is often possible to deal with them without gas, batons or Tasers. Each of those carries risks and can make the situation more difficult. Gas affects everybody including police officers so shouldn't be used indoors. Batons are as useful as a chocolate
  20. I agree. There was no threat of serious harm being done. He could have easily be contained until he ran out of steam.
  21. Sadly there are lots of these new hate laws and the police are obliged to act on any report. The laws are brought in by politicians via Parliament. These days you don't have to thump somebody to assault them. If they are in fear of your actions, and it is purely down to them, no guidelines, an assault has taken place and has to be investigated. Its the law.
  22. I've worked with them. And no matter how strong minded they are when push comes to shove at the sharp end they are nowhere to be seen.
