  1. Brian fox (fox firearms) has one on his for sale list at the moment I think.
  2. Live trap with a bit of bacon tied to the trigger plate. You'll have it in less than 24hrs.
  3. I've got a lux stock that I was going to butcher for a couple of knife handle scales if your interested. Why do you need to bed a rimfire though? You shouldn't need to really.
  4. A few of the ones I've looked at had triggers you needed to take a run up at to pull! I'm definitely not ruling one out but I need to do more investigating (and decide on calibre) before placing an order.
  5. Cz, howa & tikka are probably the 3 main ones to look at, some of the savage models are really well put together too. Rem 700 I think is a bit of a Ruger 10/22 type rifle but in centrefire because they can be great or shocking out of the box but once you replace most of it they make really nice guns! A new trigger unit, rebarrel and aftermarket or upgraded stock would put you in the price band of some very nice factory rifles that don't need any work so for me, there isn't really much point to buying one. Bottom line is you won't go wrong with a t3. The howa is still a good accur
  6. i'd use an old rock or the back door step before a blade tech. buy some cheap knives at a car boot or similar, a cheap sharpening stone from a hardware shop and a bottle of 3 in 1 oil then learn how to use it. you can get guides that clip onto the blade if your not happy free handing them but they aren't really needed imho.

I hate opinels. Personally, I think they are bloody dangerous. Too many times I've reached into a pocket to find the collar has worked around and the blade has slipped open slightly. The fixed blade mora knives are cheap, good blade steel and dishwasher proof, likewise the svord mini peasant knives (plastic handled version
  8. I couldn't find them in a 10 for myself so I doubt it!
  9. We were intending to go out on Saturday but the weather was a bit grim around here so we gave it a miss and stayed nice and warm on the sofa instead. Sunday morning I got a weather report from a very excited 5 year old... "daddy it's not raining and the sun's out, can we go and catch rabbits with Mabel today?" Who was I to argue! Just did the one Warren, end result was one missed bolt, 3 out down a stop end made it worthwhile, chocolate bar on the way home and a little man eager to go out again next weekend with 'his' dog. https://youtu.be/3qhIncP2Jag
  10. If its enough mag for him, something like an old phillipino made Simmons wtc (3-12x50 maybe) should be more than capable and cost under £100 second hand. As above though, how cheap is 'cheap'because different people have different perceptions.
  11. Pretty much anything on the market will take the recoil and give a worthwhile picture at 250 yards. The difference comes in when you work out what he wants. If he isn't going to be dialling in and it's for daytime only or under a lamp then go cheap and cheerful with adjustable parallax in a mag that suits what he wants because you will be hard pressed to see much difference in good conditions. As soon as you start thinking about dawn / dusk light gathering capabilities, higher mag (which to be reliable and not white out usually needs better glass) repeatable target turrets, clev
  12. Cheers stoggy. I've been contemplating doing some for a while and decided to just have a crack. Going to be uploading shooting (bunny and fox) stuff and some other bits that might be of interest to people as well as I get the time to record decent footage.
  13. Finally got chance to edit the rest of the footage from last weekend (a wet start) one miss and 3 more in the bag. https://youtu.be/5ffN2V1XWQk Part 1 http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/365723-a-wet-start-14117/?do=findComment&comment=4390074
  14. I'll start the bidding at £3.50 and a Mars bar that's been kicking about in the bottom of my net bag for the last 18 months!

  16. Also worth looking at the jack Pyke handlers vest. They are kind of the same but different
  17. But when there is only one product on the market it will naturally hold its price better because when there is no competition or other option to go for a 30 quid saving is a 30 quid saving and most people buying a finder would probably like 30 quid worth of nets to go with it!
  18. They hold their price because it's a small market to begin with so the second hand ones, while not rare, will likely have a couple of interested parties if its for sale on ebay or similar. I do t really begrudge the 160 quid on a u it and collar new, but for replacement collars to be around the 70 to quid mark is just ridiculous. For that price they should come with a year's rent for someone to carry all your nets and bunnies each weekend.
  19. Is the stock wooden or synthetic? If it's wood I would suggest either over torqued screws or the wood 'moving' because of cold / damp or oil swelling or moving the wood Either way if it is working fine out the stock and used to be fine then either conditions or your maintenance regime is making the stock move in relation to the action / trigger block.
  20. You can rebarrel it, the cost may mean it's cheaper to just buy a new action though (but obviously this will require a disposal then one for one variation so could be a long wait depending on your force) Another option is to phone around a few custom rifle builders and see if they have a suitable factory barrel from another howa, or even a rem 700 or a tikka as these will likely be a lot cheaper than the cheapest aftermarket barrel because they will essentially be scrap.
  21. what do you mean by ferret proofing Electrified cage wire, barbed wire perimeter fence, moat, sentry towers... Mine, luckily have never made an attempt at self liberation but some would make houdini blush.
  22. I don't really think this is something that can be trained in the dog as such, although like everything else when it comes to training, positive reinforcement for a good mark won't hurt. You will learn to recognise the dogs mark in the same way you know when it's time to lift your ferrets - they behave in a certain way. Mabel will physically stick her head down a hole with good scent (and if the hole is big enough half her torso too) so it's an obvious one, other dogs may be a bit more subtle. Have a look at the 2 videos I put up in the write ups section, I've shown her marking on both of
  23. Best bet is gumtree or local free ads. Find a half decent rabbit hutch going cheap / free a d then spend a few quid ferret proofing it.
  24. Just don't try and do it now... It could end badly for you if you try to bring anything over 4x mag back!
