  1. In the process of sorting an old Guinea pig hutch for my first ferrets arriving and I got thinking... How ferret proof is "ferret proof"? It has a 3/4" ply floor, mesh (somewhere between well mesh and chicken wire thickness) panel door but the sides and back are only 3mm ply. Do they need to be thicker? Do I need stronger mesh? What is deemed to be the minimum thickness needed for being ferret proof? The kits I have arriving will only be about 8 weeks old and I was planning on building a bigger, sturdier hutch & run for them in the spring but having read some past threads I
  2. in theory, could you switch the speaker to one that makes a different sound? it should only be a case of a couple of wires to cut and resolder.
  3. I appreciate that everyone has their own taste and preference for equipment but I am wondering about ferret finders and if the older kit still makes the grade. Ive been watching ebay auctions for a week or two and have noticed trends with selling prices on both mk1's and mk3's so I know where to aim for a fair 2nd hand buying price but i'm more curious about the opinions on the merits of the 1 vs the 3. does anyone actually prefer the older mk1 over the mk3? am i wasting my time buying a mk1 and should i just go straight for a mk3? is there a mk2??? I havent come across mentio
  4. http://www.midlandgamefair.co.uk/hand-made-nets no affiliation & no idea on quality but just had a quick gander through the trade stands list to try and decide if i want to make the trip or not as i was a bit disappointed the last time i went & it becomes an expensive day out if you don't bag the bargains you were after.
  5. the guy i'm getting them from (and a couple of his mates) have started flying their harris hawks on our land so i was hoping to get out with them and start them flushing towards the end of the season where they can learn the ropes a bit, or just get out with me and the shotgun where there is no pressure to perform. i'm guessing that being fairly sociable animals and (in this case) still relatively young they wouldnt have too much issue with other ferrets or is this a bit of a no no? ive no issue with them not being ready till next season if that is the case, it just gives me longer t
  6. cheers for that, dave. i feel I ought to add that I was planning on building a run for them but at the moment we are having loads of work done at home (new land drains, new patio & paths etc.) so the garden is going to be re-levelled which means muddy mess for a while while it either grows through or gets re-seeded so I was hoping to leave them run-less for now and rely on lead exercise (or burrows) until the spring. hopefully, as time goes on (if my little one, currently 3 gets an interest) I may have the excuse to build a bigger enclosure, i'm loving some of the ferret court idea
  7. I've wanted to get some ferrets for a few years now but working hours and free time never really suited taking on extra animals (especially working ones when I was struggling to get out with the guns as it was!) My situation has now changed and I now have less time commitments through the winter and in the evenings so I am hoping to take the plunge in a couple of weeks with my first ferrets. I've had the offer of a pair of hobs, currently about 6 weeks old and i'd love to have them and get into ferreting for bunnies as there are a few places on my own land where we have problems with them
