  1. There is a chap who fishes around the farm and he likes setting up under that tree so he has cut a load of branches off low down to give himself a bit of cover. When the dog hit the net and dragged it across the deck it picked up half of Cheshire and the pole had worked its way through the net a few times too. Probably took 15 minutes to clear it... I was close to just cutting it off!
  2. Yeah, I think she was further across to the pit and not really that deep but the locator wouldn't pick an anything up over in that corner. Spoke to the landowner last night and there is an old (now not connected) drain runs into that corner so it was potentially blocking the locator signal.
  3. I was sorted and ready to go nice and early but the weather had other plans. Decided to risk it as the rain had settled a bit and was now patchy rather than persistent so I loaded up the car and went on my way. https://youtu.be/bcO-iKFI7m0 Video is from the first Warren of the day, we did another 3 after this for 5 bunnies altogether in a couple of hours so was really happy with both the result and the dogs ongoing progress (only her 3rd outing) I should hopefully have a part 2 edited and online through the week at some point.
  4. You'd probably never catch a rabbit on that farm if you didn't net it! (especially with one dog!) There is more hole than ground along some of the hedges and the bunnies just bounce hole to hole and never properly bolt.
  5. I'm running 3 x 8" ones at the moment and have 4 more started using the leftovers from the needles (rattled off 18 nets in the last week) but have ordered another 3 so I can load more in one hit because I don't mind making nets but hate loading needles with a passion so if I can do more in a session to get it done and out of the way I'm all for it! I ordered a set of 3 x 8" ones on Amazon for just under 3 quid, if they are decent enough quality I'll probably order another 3 to avoid loading for longer!
  6. She's making all the right noises thankfully, and seems to have the instinct and steadiness for it. A couple of times she took half a step to a net when she saw it moving only to stop as soon as she noticed t was a ferret, she hasnt bothered with them at all and is starting to keep her head down and follow them too which I'm really apply about. the main reason she has only been out twice despite being about 18 months old now is that she is an absolute 'see you next Tuesday' on recall - usually because she's got her nose to the ground and she is more interested in following a scent and ri
  7. Nonsense. If you are a FULL club member and have permission you can shoot anything that is conditioned for vermin in the field and anything that is conditioned for targets on the club range. You can also use a non target conditioned rifle in a club range for the purposes of zeroing as per the standard wording on every ticket. Not got mine to hand for the exact phrase but it's something along the lines of Land deemed suitable or for zeroing on approved ranges. Bottom line, if the rifle falls within the club ranges safety certificate parameters then you can zero it there, if
  8. Took a trip out just after Xmas with the lurcher, only her 2nd outing and coming on well. No missed marks, no false marks... Every egg a bird! Worked well around the nets and she is starting to look like she actually knows what she was bred for! Mabel is one of the pups from (rew) fly's 2015 litter https://youtu.be/gb27x9_7f1w I've decided to kick off a channel for my ferreting and shooting trips plus a few other closely related bits and pieces, new videos may be a little slow coming through at first while I tinker and play about with different software but I'd
  9. I can just get a 3'6" net from spun poly on an 8" needle with a 2" mesh board (two 9's then up in 1's to 5 rows of 16 then back down in 1's to 2 x 9's again) I personally use the slightly bigger rings, not sure if they are +1/8 or +1/4 because I think the extra weight helps in windy weather and they purse up really quickly too. One thing you could do is tie off half a dozen rings down to row #2 with an 8" needle then switch onto a 10"needle for making larger nets. I tend to just use 8" needles though and if I'm doing a bigger net just tie a new needle on. Any spare after a net i
  10. The problem with ferrets is not many vets like them! If you get a 50 ish quid price for a vasectomy it's because the bet doesn't mind them, if it's 100 odd then they either don't like them or they hate doing the op because it can be a bit fiddly
  11. Looks good and solid, my only negative thought is that there doesn't look like a huge amount of ventilation compared to a lot of other boxes
  12. Your dead right, they are actually really good nets so long as your on short ish grass with no wind! Windy days the rings not having much weight behind them make them a bit flighty and in hedges or cover they seem to attract thorny stuff by the bucket load but when all is said and done they catch bunnies and catch them well. I've just been given a bag full by a customer who found them in his allotment shed so once I've had chance and gone through them to check for damage and pick all the bits out of them I am hoping to be able to gift them to someone starting out to get then up and r
  13. Don't get me wrong chaps, it wasn't 'bad' it just did nothing that far cheaper scopes didn't do and I was expecting something noticeable for shelling out on a scope with an rrp nearly 4x that of what it was replacing. If it was fake, someone went to a hell of a lot of trouble for very little gain. Was I just expecting too much from it? Possibly Was I disappointed? Definetely Would I buy a other? Nope. Would I still buy Nikon camera lenses? Yes
  14. Phone was plugged in... The pint of Guinness didn't have that luxury though! (incidentally it took 42 mins for a 3 1/2 footer on 2" mesh board using 2 x rows of 8 then increasing in singles to 5 x 16th in the middle. 21 rows altogether)
  15. Tell me about it! Done 9 so far yesterday and today, got 2 more needles loaded ready to go for tomorrow but hoping to get to 15 new ones by Saturday morning to take my bag up to 50 ish overall.
  16. https://youtu.be/c0Tvw_VIQzs Having a play about with a time lapse camera app for my phone so decided to double up experimenting with the app and knitting a net...
  17. You could always just make one like a cattle drinker / toilet header tank. Shouldn't be too difficult to cobble together with a plastic trough of some sort and a ball cock. Otherwise why not try one of the battery powered auto watering systems you can get for hoses (about a tenner) and just plumb it into the tops of a few bottles and have it come on for 2 minutes every morning.
  18. The biggest problem with a gopro is that your footage probably won't be that clear if you are taking distance shots on fox or bunny because they don't really run any sort of zoom. Using a sniper cam type device will give you better shot footage, the gopro will give you better footage of the stalk / land.
  19. Well, I say pup because mentally it is! Mabel is one of the pups from the litter rew bred from fly. Her first outing we bagged a dozen or so but she was bit giddy, this time she was a different dog altogether. She had good positive marks, no false marks at all and holes that she bypassed and showed no interest in we netted up and threw some ferrets down just to be sure and there was nothing home so she is also not missing marks. All good signs. First outing she was obsessed by the dead bunnies on the floor and just wanted to eat them. This time, she left them alone because she w
  20. you need to have 'good reason' for any rifle you want to to possess. In the case of club / target rifles they won't give you a 223 or a 308 if your club only has an indoor range passed for lr or pistol calibre centrefire. Likewise, if you do not have a plot of land passed for 223, you do not have 'good reason' for a 223. Typically, forces tend to clear for rimfire, 22 centrefire and then above that is usually based on the specific calibre you are asking for (they won't clear for 338 lap mag if you only want to use a 243!) Things that can turn rimfire cleared land into viable centr
  21. With anything like this it's always worth ringing the office and asking to speak directly to whoever your feo will be. They are normally very busy but should be able to spare 5 minutes to give you a definite yes, no or maybe. Something like this will be looked at on a case by case basis so ask the question directly then get your paperwork sent in. For me, the fact you voluntarily surrendered your ticket and got help (and are now helping others) should show you as being responsible and aware of your actions having consequences so hopefully they will be happy to reissue it for you
  22. I don't see why you would ever need to hose it out. Stick an inch or two of shavings in the bottom and the wood doesn't get damp or smelly anyway.
  23. The monarch I had came with the original purchase receipt from a Nikon dealer (can't remember who off the top of my head) and their shop price label still on the box. It is highly, highly unlikely it was a fake.
  24. I bought it based on reviews I read online and was thoroughly disappointed. Definitely genuine, box, booklet, receipt of sale, spare turrets etc. (luckily I bought it second hand so only took a 60 quid hit on the piece of crap!) It is perfectly reasonable to compare it side by side against a hawke as they perform the same task and to say otherwise is nonsense. This £400+ Nikon scope sadly did nothing better than a £125 hawke, mtc mamba or £100 fox did to my (and 3 of my mates) eyes. Maybe it was a Friday afternoon job, but good glass should be good glass and this was simply
  25. A lad I used to shoot with needed to daisy chain 2 sunshades to stop his ir shining back off the mod. Emailed vortex to ask where to get one in the UK and they shipped one foc. That wasn't for replacement in the event of loss or breakage it was a genuine sales enquiry! Extremely good company to deal with coupled with products that seem to perform well. I've got a diamondback on my fac rapid and its very nicely made and perfectly clear.
