It was in service from 1960 ish until about 1990. Based on the FN, still widely used. The round was a stopper, unlike the fairy 5.56. Some were autos as well but ours only semi. Not bragging but my best ever grouping came courtesy of the SLR ( as we called it ) A perfect day, no wind and 500 yards, 12 inch group with a twenty round magazine. For a semi auto I was really chuffed. I prefer bolt actions though, more satisfying, more accurate, and lets be honest, what can compare to a SMLE or anything fitted with a Mauser action? I would take up shooting CSR if I could afford it, the cost of am

Nice write up thanks. Yes, the S410 takes some beating. I here some even use German things. Funny folk are at times

I have always been put off by buddy bottles. I like the shot count they offer, but just find them plain ugly. At least with Ultras, Scorpions and AA's, Brococks etc, you get classical rifle "lines". It is nice wood though I must admit. I like the look of the new R10, it has a traditional size bottle. Just hate the hamster slung underneath. Fussy old beggar am I.

Give Nick Holt a ring of Holts Auction in Norfolk.

Whats Airsoft? I mean reality, not fantasy

Nah, try lugging an L1A1 for thirty miles over the moors.....then shooting it with numb hands. Lighter stuff is the way, thats what old farts like me like

Sorry about everybody's misfortunes. There was a lad in Shetland a few weeks ago. Pointing a springer at police in Lerwick. Lucky he wasn't shot. Its beyond words really. Its part of society being anti gun, makes them more attractive because they are used so much on TV. Also, well I joined cadets, got to shoot a SMLE at 14. Taught me discipline, so did my dad. One thing does rile me, the production of military clones. Evanix spring to mind, a few others too. If schools encouraged gun clubs, a bit like BASC and the air gun coaching scheme, then things would be better. Then as in Scotland, we

Now look here young Scott, some of us more senior shooters actually like lighter rifles.....because we have better things to do like go to Jims. Anyway, we are too busy shooting all day, paid for by your taxes that pay our over generous pensions. Now thats a pretty good arrangement I think, so, leave us alone to our lighter models and just keep working........

S410. Reliable, lightweight, bolt action, deadly accurate. Biased? Yes, use one daily in .22 for rabbits. Very good to 40 / 45 yards. Supa Lite model carbine for all day lugging. Price is excellent as well, good shot count. I like the German, might even get one, but it is heavy. The lever action is good, but then so is the S510. Working on the AA is a dream, spares are cheap, if you need them. Throw on a Rowan bolt handle and trigger and its good for HFT. The Rowan parts improve it a lot. Honestly though, mine has a Hawke 3.9 x 50 IR on it and I can pop an egg off a fence post at sixty yar

Air Arms S510 Silencer Problem
John Stott replied to bunnybuster3000's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I've tried 3 different Q-tecs and the guns been back to Airarms and it still and still won't group with one on So I have had the money back for the silencer I will shoot it with out on. I shoot JSB's 15.9's and bisley magnums seems to like these. Cheers I usually feed my S410 with JSB 18gn. Got a box of Defiant Ogive ( 16gn ) to try a few months ago and wow! Expensive but a lovely bullet. Funny but cant get tight groups at zero range ( 30yds ) thats pellet through the same hole. However they do a two pence size grouping at that range. The real surprise was the effect on rabbits out to -
Nice one! I was out at 5 with a hard frost and good moon, managed a buck for dinner tonight from 40 yards. Still smiling.

Air Arms S510 Silencer Problem
John Stott replied to bunnybuster3000's topic in General Airgun Discussion
585 should sort it, lets face it, its stood the test of time. Use one on my S410 and its very quiet in .22. I like Swift moderators as well, the Stumpy is a brilliant little gadget, I use one on a Gaystate Regal and it is whisper quiet, although you would need an adaptor. -
Crows? PCP fodder, you lot have expensive habits

Try it. Try everything for yourself, then make up your mind.

Well, I am pondering, old farts do that, an HW100. Have an S410, used almost daily for rabbits for five years. Got a Super Lite stock on it and never a problem. Its better handling than a thumbhole in my humble opinion. The 100 handles well with a sporter stock but is heavier. Consider if you are carrying it all day. As to the lever action, I have tried both and there is not a lot to choose between them, both are very smooth and work well. The 100 is better designed, flush magazine, separate safety. You can use lower or one piece mounts. AA still insist on the daft trigger safety and higher

Nice set up and folk are right about call ducks. Put your hide up now if I were you too, if you use one. Covers heavy though, might be worth cutting back a bit. Best of luck with it.

Well that will start a riot, more different opinions on here than I have odd socks. Avoid Daystate. I like Air Arms ( had an S410 for 5 years and never let me down ) I like the BSA Ultra for hide work and indoors, shot count is low though. I really am going for the HW100 strongly myself, well made and seem about the best around. Optics, I am happy with Hawke and BSA on air rifles. Others will disagree strongly on that. Just remember you are shooting small game out to 50 or so yards so some optics are overkill ( pricewise ) MTC seem reasonable though. If you have that kind of money though

Thought this would interest some folk. Bought it a month ago from See All of Idaho. Can be mounted on anything. Tried on a rimfire first, but ended up on this Ultra. The fibre block gathers light and shows a small triangle through the rear magnifying lens. Parallax free, the tip of the triangle is centred on the target. It is adjustable for elevation and windage, weighs a few ounces. Zeroed to thirty yards it will knock the middles out of HFT targets out to fifty for me consistently. Used it for rabbits and rats so far with very good results. I like shooting irons but trying to get a set up

Nice one! Ever tried pigeon sausages? Just throw in the minced meat and your other bits as usual. Comes out a bit like venison sausage and low fat.

First Night Out With My New 17Hmr
John Stott replied to rimfirelover1990's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Any round does that just follow the drills. I have seen all kinds of caliber over the years have duds in a batch. Lets be honest and admit some brands are renowned for duffness, is that a word? Its a tiny round to start with so sods law says there will be some rifles that can't cope with some brands. .22 is infamous for duds, that is certain brands. My maxim has always been find out what suits and stick with it. Safety is not a joke. -
Thinking Of Returning To Fac (Range Shooting)
John Stott replied to redial's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I went the air rifle route. Lucky I have some land so made a sixty yard range and have a few good clubs nearby. I find the cost of ammo is way overpriced for hobby shooting. Horses for courses but you don't have to count the rounds. If, big if, I had a choice it would be .303 and a SMLE, a "jungle". Thats a dream. Thought of field archery? Another cheap way to shoot as well. Whatever you decide on, good luck and enjoy it. -
Which Springer To Buy?
John Stott replied to AliLangford's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Got an antique SMK B1 for sale, nice painted stock and no sights but its loud Seriously, Air Arms all the way. Funny thing is I thought no one used spring rifles anymore! -
Yay behold! It just made seven pages!
