  1. The world has truly gone mad. What is better than that feel of oiled walnut against the cheek? Confession time, and this will make you laugh. I left the TA for one reason only ( I was only in it for free shooting ) they introduced that stupid puppybull SA80 thing.....you can read about it in my forthcoming book. "Confessions of a Knuckle Dragging SLR Fan".
  2. No the Daystate electronic trigger guns (Mk 3, Mk 4 etc) are the quietest as they have no hammer, only a solenoid that goes click and not whack! I am talking about proper airguns not electrical switches I honestly do not think you can compare an electronic gizmo to an HW. My experience ( and many others ) of Daystate is one of sheer, overpriced gimmicks. The fact that Daystate, unlike Weirhauch and many others need to constantly turn out new gimmicks speaks volumes. Look at facts, Daystate cannot even turn out a reliable mechanical action, my tally of seized bolts on Hunstman, Regal
  3. These were accidents, they ignored the red "range open" flags on Stotty Acres and got caught in lethal crossfire

  6. I had thought about that light bottle, seems pricey to me but thanks for the observations. By this is a good place for info!
  7. Yes. FYI, we're known as Real Men. I love that.......I think
  8. I took my newish toy out for a serious session this week. Nice warm day, hide set up the night before, set up a small pattern and waited. Fifteen birds in two hours and it is silent. Furthest was about fifty yards, even managed three out of three without others getting too upset. It is fast becoming my favourite. Superb accuracy with JSB Exacts.
  9. Oh dear a "pupbull", is it a rifle then? lol!
  10. But, but it's not a PCP! Do folk actually still use these antiques?
  11. I never buy from homosexuals. Can't be arsed.
  12. Don't forget that with glasses scopes, any make, will give different results. I find that Hawkes and BSA are kinder to my eyes when using either. A Leapers I bought recently gives milky eye around the edges. As do most MTC and Bushnell I have tried in the past. My optician mumbled about prism and light refraction awhile ago, went straight over my head, as usual. Likewise the reticle is a big factor, I cannot use 30/30 and have to have mildot, again all down to the spectacles. Thats why I think all rifles, whatever type, should come with irons fitted. I turned up at an HFT meet last year n
  13. I paid £120 for an approved four gun Buffalo River recently, the old one was, well cream crackered. It sits in a corner behind a door and would need looking for to find it. Small price to pay for peace of mind. Also they are out of reach of curious little hands. I think our licensing system is draconian, separate subject I know, but the way Scotland has gone, is going, it will happen here soon. I guess a few of us have military backgrounds on here, safety was drummed into me from the age of 13 in cadets, regulars, and in civilian life. We are being watched constantly, commented on daily. Eve
  14. Macs alright, he has a little one to show him the ropes
  15. Sounds like a s510 in .177 may be on the cards John had a few shots from a kind bloke at a range i was at a few weeks ago, so smooth and the level could be pulled with your little pinkie lol I would love to stick with AA John. One niggle for me has always been the magazine, you need high mounts. It is a lovely rifle mind. I had thought long and hard but the HW wins by design, low mounts, flush magazine, same with BSA as well. The S510 is a lovely rifle though, they all are from that stable.
  16. Mmm. How to ruin a rifle? And a poor S410 at that There is only one kind of stock now is there not? Thumbholes are for girls and FT shooters. What is wrong with tradition? And they call it progress........
  17. If I get a new clearance job I leave it for a few weeks, walk it up at different times and they get used to you. Then the stupid things line up to die. Recce is well worth it for anything really. I have taken to multi cam of late, seems to be quite effective although I am brainwashed DPM as are all Catterick products I dont rate civilian patterns much, too specific in design, and cost the earth. Soldier 95 is very good. Although treated myself to some ATACS and one word in the trees, wow! As to night vision I have not yet plunged, I prefer dawn and dusk ( and my mam wants me in by ten ) I
  18. FAC rated safe for me, also trigger locks. I see little point in the "bike cable" things, the rifle can still be cocked and the trigger used. Any curious toddler can do that. Trigger locks prevent discharge. Had my "visit" last week funnily so I had done a mental check. House is alarmed and the dog patrols inside. He was quite happy with those arrangements. Lets face it a safe is cheap enough now. Also the price of rifles means a burglary geared just to steal a collection is a possibility. Lots of us have several thousand pounds worth of kit.
  19. I think its not worth a risk of taking it over, thought this Tench fellow was the dogs nuts? Oh well, we live and learn.
  20. I like all Hawkes and BSA Essentials, I just bought a fancy Leapers for a new HW100. Zeroed it, played with its multi coloured reticle, it shot well. Then I put the BSA Essential back on it. Scope dinosaur? Nope, I think use whats right for you. I like simplicity and ruggedness. I am a Tyke, I have an aversion to spending a lot on glass. Fifty yards or so is not Bisley CSR, my opinion I know, but its stood the test of time.
  21. Put a complete new set of seals on it. The main cylinder is probably the source as flynndog says but for a few quid it is peace of mind.
  22. How do you milk them? Very carefully with tweezers. I would say more but bestiality is still a crime
  23. Each story is different. Thats the tapestry of life. Devils advocate time. I have met some constables in my years who leave a lot to be desired. Both in attitude and knowledge. Their very approach to some situations raises the stakes. Then over many years I have witnessed the slow militarisation of county forces. The Met, of which I had a long association, are amongst the worst. Over reaction. I am very lucky where I live, many officers are shooters / fowlers themselves. My LEO is an ex firearms officer. Frankly they understand and use common sense. However, you cannot rule out idiocy in ce
  24. I think posturing youth are predictable. My answer to them is cadet corps. Also schools should, as many private do, have ranges and gun clubs. One of the biggest problems we face is ignorance. Our anti gun culture ensures that. ACPO recently did shooting no favours either, everybody wants to score political points. I always, always, point out a gun is a tool. Like a hammer, a tractor or a collie. When the wag response comes, I reply I enjoy working dogs and driving tractors too. A strange society we have created. Films and TV glorify gun culture, then, everyone bemoans the fact that kids w
  25. Chrono it regularly. Good practice and good discipline. A bit like rifle cleaning, it pays dividends in the end. Also remember even though they are the same product, each rifle will have its own quirks.
