  1. Its normal. I recommend you just deal with it as the police want. There can be stipulations in a rental that you may not be aware of. However, if something goes wrong, you are responsible. Do you really want to have the burden of proof lying on you? Also, to clarify, I would contact BASC legal. Their expertise is second to none.
  2. Alcoholics with guns and large alsations? Tut!
  3. It did go back, it had a six week holiday. Then it decided to be naughty so I grounded it, just like my daughter. Come to think of it the rifles better looking.
  4. Well if I add a bit more it could get to seven pages. So what if its twenty pages? We poor retired folk have nothing better to do, that and fix Daystate Regals
  5. Thanks David. I did try it a few times, foxing years back. I have trouble with my eyes and find night vision quite difficult to maintain. Something to do with focus, lights not a problem, and I do use an illuminated reticle on one scope for bad light. I find myself moving back onto older ways now though, I like irons. Although use the scopes for killing stuff, as you point out woundings a no, no.
  6. Sorry Dave I said it in jest, at my age the only thing I do in the dark is sleep. I don't "get" this night vision stuff, never have really. Dawn and dusk has always suited me. That and I am scared of the dark
  7. I agree Simon, I have tried tuning this Regal myself. Not being a braggart, but I can usually fettle a PCP or rimmy myself. The problems with this seem to stem from tolerances in the action. Seals leak, stuff rattles and yes, British Leyland springs to mind. As my lads Regal had major problems too, well it shows bad parts sourcing to me. And total lack of quality control. I described it elsewhere as a Prima Donna, the more I use it the more convinced I am of this. I must admit to being very tempted by Ripley, its the same kind of monetary outlay and I can't find a bad word against them. I do
  8. German quality methinks. As far as I know all the bits are made in Germany. Daystate import a lot of bits, that would explain the bolt problems. Only needs tolerances a few thou out and you have problems.
  9. I use a Maglite and my eyes. Taped onto the rifle, shine it around a field then shoot at what you see. If you have guessed the range right. Well, its dead!
  10. Well they do work. They are very accurate. They are good to handle and shoulder. Heres proof. That though is on a good day. Alright, I am being devils advocate here. This rifle will not outdo my S410, or the small Ultra I also use. What they do though, is work 100% of the time. Honestly the S410 is five years old and it has never misfired or malfunctioned. Likewise this Ultra ( BSA replaced the original ) Chris make some brilliant points about noise in Daystates offerings. Since this one came back after its six week holiday, well it sounds like a twin tub washer. Daystate won't answer que
  11. Got two, one Victorian brick thats sewage. The others concrete interlocking slabs for black water. I looked into replacing the Victorian with a bio unit, sort of soak away affair. The prices were crazy though, several thousand a few years ago, and it needed certificates and planning etc. Decided to leave alone and if it ever needs replacing will stick a tank in instead.
  12. I more or less undertake pest control five days a week. From fox to rats everything for the past seven years has been shot with a Hawke or a BSA sight. Thats with all kinds of rifles out to a hundred yards. The Hawke after sales and guarantee is better than any you will get. So, three times a year, or daily. Form an opinion on usage and experience of something, don't just throw daft opinions around. and what do you think I do for a job? The OP was asking opinions on scopes. Simple. An opinion I gave. My opinion. As others have given theirs. That's what the forum is for. I didn't turn
  13. Thought this might interest some folk for pest work. Had it a month from See All in Idaho. No batteries, the green fibre block draws light allowing a triangle point to act as aim point. The rear clear lens magnifies it a bit. Its parallax free as well. Tried it on a rimfire, but ended up on this Ultra for barn work and its proved very accurate. It will knock FT middles out for me at up to forty yards consistently. Managed my "egg off a fence post" test at sixty so very pleased. Good alternative to irons as there is no foresight to worry about. The Americans are using it on shotgun and pistol

  15. Huh Regal? That thing that sits in the back of my truck. Well, it shoots reliably now. I sorted the magazine feed out. A Rowan single shot adaptor. The shrouds not rattling, thats down to Loctite. The bolt draws well now, thats a Rowan bolt handle, better balanced than Daystates. The silencer? Sold that and fitted a Swift Stumpy, now its quiet. Replaced a few seals and adjusted the power myself to 11.5. Did I tell you its only 6 months old? I love my S410
  16. Just go for a large enclosed unit and empty it when needed. Cheaper and more reliable.
  17. Nothing wrong with Hawke scopes, or BSA Basics on air rifles. Optics are really good on modern "budget". Lots of snobbery and tosh spoken about optics. Learn to shoot with irons first. I have 3 different Hawkes of various ages, all perform really well. Good God you are shooting rabbits and pigeons out to 55 yards not Bisley CSR.
  18. Loved reading this, this discussion has gone on for years, dare say it will for many more. Theres nothing wrong with 22lr for fox imho. Out to around yards a good shot can kill all manner of things with that round. Whats sad is the confusion created by different interpretation. Plod doesn't help matters either, then when do they ever? Its legal to take CWD's with 22lr I understand, now thats a bigger animal altogether. Confusion and lack of clarity, is there no wonder shooting is in such a bloody mess in the UK?
  19. Just a suggestion, clean the silencers regularly too if you are not already. Amazingly mucky ammo this. Surprising where the dirt and crud can build up.
  20. About forty usable on mine in .177. Use it in buildings mainly. Its best day was twenty three woodies on brassicas last spring. Perfect for hide work. A Swift Stumpy keeps it short and balanced, and quiet. Very accurate as well, power can be an issue as they get older it seems. Change the seals and probe washer regularly, drill out the anti tamper and keep it around 11lb. Actually a nice little carbine, its saving grace is, like all the BSA stable, is the flush fitting magazine allows close mounting of sights. I just put a spare older BSA 3.9 x 40 on this one and it is accurate for me to six
  21. Mixy is making a big comeback everywhere it seems, warm and damp winters, plus this good summer. I can usually pop healthy bucks from my back door, however I am putting them out of their misery at the moment. Next doors colony of pet rabbits ( silly old fart ) has been wiped out. Windy weather as aforementioned contributes too. Answer? Buy a ferret and some nets.....
  22. Good news lad, like the others say respect and more will follow. Good shooting.
  23. Nice one, wanna buy a Regal to use?
  24. Lets be serious. As if. Ultra and S200 are the best choices. If its the S200 "Rowanise" it and it is brilliant, metal bolt and multi shot loader turn it into a brilliant carbine. The Ultra is a nice, light and very shooter friendly offering too, put a sling on it and even geriatric farts like me can carry it all day. Whats more they are both very accurate. Nobody has mentioned Brocock, the Super Six is uber light, a good offering too, prices from Pellpax are good. Theres Daystate of course, I have one for sale.......
  25. I had problems with my first Ultra, BSA did replace it no questions, fell out with it and it sat in the safe for a long time. Took it out last month ratting in a grain silo, well blow me down but I like it again. Nice and light, gives 11lbs and about 780 fps. Shot pigeon out to fifty yards, its as accurate as any .177 I have ever used, as accurate as a Daystate. Nice smooth action as well. Looking at Scorpions at the moment for the very reason of shot count. I get about 35 / 40 usable with an Ultra but ratting can get hectic on some of my spots and need a few extra cc's. Just an aside, my si
