Sorry, this appears elsewhere with a picture......couldnt stop it posting ( thick or old? ) Its a sporter stock, can't stand thumbhole. I find the thumbhole affects wrist action in shouldering causing me to have to move my elbow up and to the right too much.

And sorry for the picture quality. Time this thing took bigger files......

Well, two weeks into ownership and pleased isn't the word. Pushed today to 61 yards and grouped at 1 1/2 inches. No wind, damp using AA @ 8.4gn. Scope is a BSA Basics 3.9x40. Holdover just 1 mildot. Daystate eat your heart out, well sold it on saturday anyway!

Well, two weeks since a grand purchase. A stock that drank oil, a lot. After todays rain, a test. Already grouped well at my normal maximum of 55 yards, I decided to push it for me, so pushed the rest back another 5 yards to sixty. Checked on a laser that said 61 yards. "In your own time, ten rounds, fire". This is with a BSA Basics 3.9 x 40, zeroed at 30 and just one mildot holdover. Pleased? Very, about the sweetest shooting PCP I have ever owned, and the most accurate. My prejudice against lever actions now gone forever. This group is 1 1/2 inches. Daystate eat your heart out........

I just love experimenting I suppose. .22 at forty is my maximum on sub12lbs, lately I am happy to go to fifty or so with .17 if the rifles giving 780fps. And yes the quality of pellet makes a big difference, I use JSB Exact now more than anything in .17. It seems the most consistent performer in my three .17 rifles. Oh, scrub that I meant two, I am a Gaystate free zone now. A good way to see the difference is at distance, the .22 is clearly visible through the scope all the way to target. Some benders have to be seen to be believed. As for the lob its a fact of life

Pax has tried small and lighter - Does not have the Stopping power of .177 .177 is Flater than .22 Majority of Targets are Shot with .177 - so Shooters are better aware of pellets capablity - BOB/R With the faster speed and smaller load than .177, wouldnt it make it more unstable in flight? It is over certain distances with wind sheer. However on a still warm day it is very true and straight. One of the reasons .17hmr is becoming so popular in rimfire is its flightpath. Same for .17 pellets. .22 requires "the lob" to be practised. However with any decent barrel and good q

Pre-Charged Rifle's/pictures?

That is a nice rifle. That model will become a collectable one day, the split stock has a strong visual appeal. Also it is very accurate. -
Ratcatchers | The Good , The Bad And The Ugly
John Stott replied to a topic in General Airgun Discussion
Don't agree, neither does experience or the science. A lad tried using one of those stupid Umarex things at our club in a temperature around zero. The pellet wouldn't reach targets at forty yards. Suppose thats why folk convert them to air? Also, to hunt with anything in those temperatures using Co2 is, in my opinion, irresponsible. -

Better a few pounds more spent on an Ultra or such like. I have never rated Co2 as a propellant for anything other than the fun pistols. That said its convenient to use, but for serious all season work its rubbish. -
Pre-Charged Rifle's/pictures?
John Stott replied to chriscurby's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Just my opinion. Then I am old so what do I know? The weight throws the handling out. At sub 12 ranges high magnification is not needed. The higher the magnification, any movement before shot is greater than with a lower magnification or the naked eye. Increases a risk of a miss. Or, wounding. I said, before, elsewhere, whenever, optics for small calibre weapons need to be basic. Mildot ( perfected by the USMC in Vietnam ) is the ideal reticle as holdover / under is minimal at short ranges. Well, I am in an old fart mood so I will add. Too much money is spent by young lads on glass. I have -

Nice wood and the shrouds cool. Pity about the optics....... -
Funny but I am going the other way, ( I own a Gaystate, not going gay ) For years I have used a trusty S410 in .22 for rabbits. Saved .177 for pigeon and rats etc. Now? the Regal has knocked them dead over fifty yards away, the new HW100 I have bought is grouping one inch at fifty five yards. The Ultra I use for rats is lethal. All in .177. I feel the same about 22lr versus .17hmr as well. Something about the flatter trajectory makes it more appealing. When you think also, around 785fps compared to 530 or so is a lot faster. Its a debate that will rage forever, a lot push .20 as a compromi

pump or dive tank ????
John Stott replied to SEAN3513's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
No brainer, got to be a tank. Or, if you are rich like me two. Unless you have an urchin to pump. I did, he's still stuck up the chimney. -
All year for me on my spots. I don't mind shooting the youngsters. If its a permission thats feeding you mind thats different, good stewardship to give it a break. Trouble is with these mild winters of late the breeding season has got longer. Same with the rats, none stop and hard to keep the numbers down. I have even baited this year on some farms as it is so bad. Might even buy a lamping kit soon, I am sixty now and my mam said I can stay out two nights a week.

Accuracy Of Hw100 177 Xhw100 .22
John Stott replied to walker smith's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I like a man that experiments. I use mainly JSB Exacts now, I read they make AA pellets for AA. The Ultra likes JSB best at 8.4gn. I practice at that range because its the distance the range ended up at from where I sit under cover. If you can try some FT targets at 5 yard increments, that will show you any rifles best range and with what pellet / pressure. Yes I get about forty from an Ultra too. The HW is giving sixty. Yes, you will get a few extra fills, its neither here nor there though as you just top up an Ultra more often. Twelve litres gives about sixty refills for me down to 200 bars, -
Which oil do you recommend John ? atb Just boiled linseed Mark, I use it for all stocks. Wait until its not soaking in any more and then I seal it with a clear beeswax. Worked for me for years, after a year or two repeat it. I brought a lovely old Mauser stock back to life this way a year or two back and its still fresh as a daisy.

Accuracy Of Hw100 177 Xhw100 .22
John Stott replied to walker smith's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Good luck with it Walker, whatever you decide. I got my first HW100 K last week after dithering for six months. I have an Ultra also, an S410 and a Daystate. The S410 is .22 the rest.177. I have put about three hundred through the HW now, just a BSA Basics x40 sight. I fired the Daystate to compare the accuracy against the HW on saturday, thats got a Hawke x50 on it. The HW is more accurate in my opinion out to 55 yards, same pellets through each, at 30 yard zero there is not much difference. The Ultra also is a very accurate rifle, can't compare them fairly as it has an open sight on it. T -
Advice On The Law
John Stott replied to the lamping ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
No this is unseemly, totally what antis want, and why feed into their inbred marxist fear? The pigeons must be shot with a bolt action NOT a semi-auto. It clearly states that in Nat West terms and conditions. A Moisin, Mauser, NOT a SMLE, is acceptable, .303 far too good a round to waste on feather. However, surplus 7.62 / 39 is an excellent choice. If you miss it will also not break the bank! Geddit? -

Educating The Public About Airgunning
John Stott replied to Dr B's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Thank you. Pity theres a waiting list, try some HFT or pure airgun clubs, usually they are happy for as many members as they can get. Pure gun clubs, ie all calibers can have waiting time, mainly because many join to ultimately gain an FAC, its the only route for many. -

Advice On The Law
John Stott replied to the lamping ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Afore it descends into a total waste of time. Do as folk say, read the law, learn and act accordingly. Ignorance is no defence in court. Ignorance also gets shooting a bad name, see, shit sticks to us all friend. If I had a pound for every "query" about shooting legality here and elsewhere I would be rich, very. No one should pick up any weapon without first a knowledge of the appropriate law. Now, whilst I am in a constructive mood, visit BASC's site and read. It is all there, plain and simple, also not in txt speke. If you ignore the sound advice given on here, then fine. You will find y
