Advice On The Law
John Stott replied to the lamping ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Dont is the short answer, you will get lifted and prosecuted. -
Good thread, I find all Hatsans heavy ( funny but their shotguns are the opposite! ) For a starter PCP and for value an Ultra is hard to beat. Very accurate and one of those rifles you just want to shoot all day. Prices are good too. Best advice is try as many as you can though, I held that new Gamo PCP last week and its a BSA in all but name. I am erring to .177 now for most things, truer flight and less hassle in wind I find. Lets be honest, most PCP's are fine and accurate. Its the spares and simplicity of repair thats important. You cannot beat Air Arms for that, the 200 or 400 have sto

Educating The Public About Airgunning
John Stott replied to Dr B's topic in General Airgun Discussion
He moved here from Scotland where he had shot over a few hundred acres. He is what is known as a "self certifier" ie he receives no inspection visits, the police just accept he complies with regulation. As he is a gun dog breeder, shoots on some fairly prestigious pegs, well he got under their radar. It was only a complaint from us that brought the FLO around. He himself admitted that four acres is not suitable for rimfire, also that he would not have issued a an FAC or SL for that amount of land. With regard to air trespass, BASC legal were clear with me. Its a civil matter for any projectil -

Theres also "air trespass" to consider. A bit vague legally but it is illegal for a person to infringe on your airspace with a lead projectile! I had a run in with my neighbour a few years back. He was firing rimmy over my boundary, ricochets the lot. As my grand daughter plays in the paddock it was clearly not on. FLO read the riot act to him of course and told me I could ask for his FAC to be taken away due to air trespass. As to whether they are civil or criminal, I think it takes an injury or a serious threat to life afore plod will act. Apart from not understanding the law most are too la -

Simon has it right with the bales DrB as do you. I use them to put targets ( paper ) onto. Thats if I want to vary my practice range a bit, overkill in my situation but they are silent. I use pellet traps though, at distance they are the best thing for paper Bisley targets. I think too many shooters are being intimidated from carrying out a lawful activity. The law is clear, I admit I am luckier than most, however if faced with a constant whiner tell them their moaning constitutes harassment. Also that you will make a complaint against them. I carry an iphone now when shooting, its not happen -
Posted a picture in Optics awhile back David. If you google "See All" they are in Idaho. It will fit on anything. Needs a Weaver rail. No batteries, the front block is fibre and gathers light, the rear a magnifier. You line up a black triangle point on a target after zeroing via two screws. Its parallax free as well. As long as you can see the target you will hit it. I tried red dots and stuff as my eyes are a bit iffy, this is brilliant mind and tough. Only weighs a few ounces too so the handling improves. I had tried mounting front blades on a few barrels as you know no PCP co

Thanks David, he actually can't better me despite his wonder guns, the Ultra has got a sight I bought from the States on it, nice little thing and I have been using it for rabbits and rats. I am going to shoot it against his Mk4 with its Mamba and satnav when he gets back. At our club of course in public.....

Thank you gentlemen. Slotted a BSA Basics on top, actually a nice simple scope, hole on hole out to thirty yards. One inch groups at fifty five and my breakfast egg off the post top at sixty five. Shot it again today and even better results, barrel must be leaded up. It shoots more accurately than the Regal at the same distances, on a par with the Ultra ( both in .177 as well ) Very, very pleased am I.

David dont start me off ( and a few others ) about Daystate! I bought a Regal, after a load of hassle it now shoots as it was designed to. Basically I have rebuilt it and fiddled about for eight months, fitted some Rowan parts and ditched their so called moderator. The lad and his Mk4? Well he fannies about so much he will never be self sufficient in meat. We call him "gadget boy". Like all his generation they are sucked in by electronics. He is on deployment at the moment, I have a lovely surprise for him when he charges his battery pack up. Its called HW100

Educating The Public About Airgunning

I agree with Simon. Same with me, I admit I am also lucky as I have two acres. I have a sixty yard range and use FT targets on grass. Backstop is soggy sleeper and nothing untoward or unsafe. My boundary is an old sea bank, I own it and its not a right of way. Folk walk their dogs and horse ride on it. When I see them I stop shooting, even though everything is fitted with a moderator. Some have complained, usual idiotic remarks. I point out they are on private land and technically are trespassing. I also tell them I comply with said laws on air weapons. No police visit, ever. However I am not -
Thirty yards for .22 and .177 all at the rifles sweet spot. Learn to use the hold over on each scope and store it in Mk.1 brain. I can't use Chairgun either, bloody apps for this and apps for that, getting out and fiddling is best. Knowing your gear. I don't swear often but my lad has driven me mad of late, with his Gaystate Mk.4 and his rangefinders. Think he was an FAC calling in airstrikes you would. I use basic kit on five rifles, Hawke or BSA scopes and never a problem. I also bought a "See All" sight from a firm in Idaho last year, parallax free, no batteries and no focusing. You just l

Well, Villaman convinced me. It took about six months mind, lots of chin scratching and lusting for another bolt action. Now I love my S410, my Ultra is a dream, my Gaystate is a prima donna. Rim and centre becoming a rich mans past time. So, enter my first German. Just picked it up and salivating on the walnut ( I just love a new toy ) First impressions? Very well made, excellent finish and very pleasing on the eye. I love the flush fitting parts, everything about it shouts quality. Nice folk at the Airgun Centre, first time I have dealt with them. Enclosed test certificate showing 785fps

Not an Ultra but I thought she was better looking.

I put an American open sight on an Ultra a few weeks ago. Blow me down but its as accurate as with an optic on. Pops FT centres at 55 yards now I have tinkered a bit more. Best rat shot was a forty yard. Trouble is there is no magnification so its use is a bit limited. This Ultra was a replacement for a faulty one, I fell out with it to be honest and put it in the safe for awhile. They seem to work as well as stuff costing three times more, design is nice too.

More relaxed and more sensible be they on so much. Pity the idiot legislators in Britain can't take a similar approach......oh sorry forgot, ACPO think we are all budding terrorists

Silencer For R10
John Stott replied to Cumbrianbob's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Swift Stumpy all the way, got three now and love them. -
Villaman you are a murdering brute, those poor little, fluffy Nutkins. Nice shot placement. The only good ones a dead one.
-
Ah, thats why they looked at me funny last week. I asked for a Dog Licence and proffered 7/6d...... Seriously though, the General Licence is a nightmare to take in, all of it. I find its just knowing "seasons" for this and that that is most important. The main quarry though, for most, is year round. As interestingly would Greylags be now, if fowlers had not lobbied against it.

A Few Hours Out And Two In The Bag That Dose Me
John Stott replied to bigmac 97kt's topic in Airgun Hunting
Funny how we get stuck in our ways. I am like that, .22 S410 for rabbits, .177 Ultra and Gaystate Ballerina for pigeon and rat etc. When I have used the Ultra recently ( I put an open sight on it ) its taking rabbit as good as a .22. New Years resolution coming I think. "Open your mind". Happy New Year to everyone. -
Excellent.
-
Nice, the only good one is a dead one.
-
As the other fellows say. I do prefer a dome head. A few months back I got hold of some Ogive Defiants in .22. As they are nearly 18gn I only used them at about 35 to 40 yards. The odd time I have not hit the target area they have still killed. More of an air bullet really. I am going to try their .177 soon. Very promising.

Butchering A .410 For My Nephew?
John Stott replied to air gun ant's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I agree with Nasher, the noise is a big factor at that age. Also the ears are still developing. I would stick with a single shot air rifle myself. -
Nice, I like seeing those beggars dead.

PCP, no brainer, no recoil, no noise, no strained muscles, no trapped fingers.
