  1. Welcome, I remember it well! ( four years on Unst, rabbit heaven ) I will be honest and tongue in cheek, I have given up on pcps apart from an Air Arms S410 I use around buildings in .22. Too many horror stories to recount. Have you thought about an FAC and .17hmr? If Scotland goes all ticket as planned, you might as well increase your range and options for a similar cost. The Holyrood communists seem hellbent on regulating, the latest BASC survey shows an increase in folk up north considering FAC as a direct result. Whatever, you decide though, enjoy shooting. It is one place you never wa
  2. Cheered me up reading this. Love the comments and taken tongue in cheek, unlike other girly forums where a catfight would break out. A sign of true shooters. That said wheres Darth? The 10/22 comes in for a lot of stick on accuracy, I think personally having watched some clowns with the 25 round "AK banana" attached doing an Arnie impression, well aye it will. The standard rotary is a good design, and given discipline in use, well it is as accurate as many a CZ or Browning. I personally like a bolt, these little things show my age, or being a tightwad with rounds. Whatever, the only thing
  3. A friend in NC swears by Tickhounds. Yet to see one in England but sound a good all round dog.
  4. I suspect if your friends had Tikkas, Remington, CZ etc., they would all report them as fantastic kit! No I doubt it. We have a collection between us of CZ, Ruger and a Tikka. The Browning is an A Bolt and by far the best performer. When funds allow I am getting myself one. We are an honest bunch and have known each other since army days. The CZ's come out as shining examples for me always but the A Bolt has the edge.
  5. I am a farmer.....£11 ia a lot
  6. Wouldn't work. The CO2 charge is only 8 ounces and throwaway after use. The actual pressure is only about 150 psi. CO2 expands to give 8 cubic feet of gas per pound, so one charge is only four cubic feet to discharge the water or foam. Nice dream though, I like tight wads.
  7. Made one out of old spoons. Mount them onto mild steel rod and bend the handles to make spinners. Cheaper and used it with rimfire too.
  8. Browning, no brainer really. Don't have one myself yet but friends report them as fantastic kit.
  9. I give mine away, like all of my woodies. Old folk love the meat and it helps their pension stretch further. Made some good friends doing this, and why not, it is goodwill for shooting as word gets round.
  10. It would be nice to know the story behind this, if Daystate are responsible, well just another question mark over their attitude.
  11. Thank you. Expected but still a shock. You know, one thing that all companies fail to do, is take into account folks circumstances. No I am not a sympathy seeker, just pointing out the symbolic meaning of things. I think thats where these people need to take a few lessons. That rifle that goes wrong could be a lads birthday present, a Christmas present. That could put him off shooting for life. They take large sums of money, seemingly churn out untested and faulty items. Then do not have the courtesy to explain, apologise or even acknowledge it is their fault. This is Daystate eh? One of th
  12. Well it is back, picked up from Countryside Guns of Boston today. Steve and I tried the bolt, seems ok so now the proof will be in the shooting. Crestfallen lad has returned his today. No job sheet or explanation of the fault or work undertaken. No apology from Daystate about the fault or inconvenience. Do I detect a desire for these faults to be kept quiet? I said earlier, I think they will try and "PR" their way out of these faults. Overall customer service, well I had to chase them, an e mail should not go unanswered for a week and a half. No explanation of work undertaken, so, is it a
  13. I've been banging on about this for years, you never seem to read an honest gun review in the mags, each new rifle is wonderful and worthy of your purchase etc In my eyes, the magazines exist simply to ensure that the unwary spend as much as possible on kit they simply do not need at prices they can't afford... I totally agree. The only publication that seems to criticise is Shooting Sports, they will also publish letters from folk like us with a complaint. Even so, the usual air rifle reviewers surface in this magazine and sing praises. The main criticisms come in the rim and centre fir
  14. Hi Simon I had an e mail last friday from Daystate to say they have dispatched the rifle back to my RFD. So, will wait and see what this week brings! Thanks for the interest. Another development, my boy has had one for a few months now, faultless until last week....you guessed, it has developed a stiff bolt. He rang them, they said the obvious, grease it etc. This one has been used for pest control so must have had a few hundred through it at least. His is going back now. Seems like we are being fed some s..t! Regards John
  15. :hmm: You do not need written permission to shoot deer. You simply have to comply with additional conditions if you want to shoot them out of season! What clear direction is that and how does it relate to .22lr, small ground game and vermin? As regards the rest of your post, I'm struggling to see any connection to written permission? I quoted an example of one shooter disrespecting good etiquette and practice. Take it as you want it chum. You don't have to read it or respond. A lot of these threads break down into daft arguments in my opinion. Or are you the type whos opinions a
  16. I think this discussion could go full circle, probably has. The Deer Act shows sensible and clear direction. The one thing to remember from this, as always for me anyway. We live in an anti gun culture. Anti hunting as well. Not being clued up is asking for bother, so why not just be sensible? I reckon only the few forces that have wildlife officers, and they are very thin on the ground, will have an understanding. The average plod is clueless, the clerks more so. That is more true in urban areas. I shoot, always have done. Even I have a tale of gross stupidity. My neighbour has a four acr
  17. Tell that to two lads I knew years back. Shooting next to the M25 with air rifles rabbiting. No papers carried, M25 closed and them arrested by armed response teams and held overnight. They had the permission, carrying the letter would have saved a lot of fuss. Who said sackful? Or can you shoot in four different places? As for shooting near dwellings, well nowadays a bit daft that.
  18. Do yourself a favour and talk to BASC legal. Some areas differ in approach. Given the total lack of plod intelligence with the laws its best to have written. Some even advise telling plod when and where you will be shooting on the day, or night. Myself I think thats OTT, but the days of wandering freely with gun in hand are over. Don't give anti shooting types any reason to quote "another armed man on the loose". What it takes in preparation can save a deal of heartache later.
  19. I hope so Tim, RFDs seem at fault too here. The more you dig the more sob stories surface. I cannot help being a cynic at my age, you are right but the question is still why? If dealers know they are faulty why sell? The RFD where I bought this stated yesterday he would not be surprised if they recall most Regals. Do not see that happening myself, they will try to weather it with PR. Or like BSA the tortoise, tuck your head in your shell, pay off a few reviewers to say its nice and carry on regardless. Heres a challenge Shooting Press, have rifles reviewed by real shooters. Do long term t
  20. Thanks Simon. Had two replies today from a nice Rebecca via e mail. They aim to have the rifle fixed and back with the RFD by the middle of next week. Once asked it seems folk can be prompted to respond. I had explained the rifle is used for business not pleasure, whether that made a difference or not? I also stated, nicely, that I was peeved about communication and the rifle itself, and I would need a prompt refund for a replacement. The issues do not go away for me though. Central being quality control. I am selling my sub 12 rifles and only keeping a faultless older S410 for yard work
  21. Just an update on Daystate and the returned Regal. RFD has not heard from them, I just spoke to him. I e mailed on 5th July to their e mail address, no reply. I have just sent one of their online query forms on their website. I refuse to chase by telephone. I have not got the time. Lets see if they respond this week. So far, their customer care rating with me is on a par with BSA. Now that is getting bad.
  22. Sorry, I am guilty of assuming folk know what I mean straightaway!
