  1. Love the stories mate, sounds like you and twiggie had a lot of fun, keep them coming
  2. A good deerhound is the most magnificent of all sighthounds imo. Not the best for hare or rabbits but still more capable than most pure breds bar whippets and salukis. But put whippets and salukis on fox, deer, boar, etc and you will appreciate your deerhound especially in rough terrain. Greyhounds struggled here in oz because of rough terrain and tough quarry so the deerhound was infused into the breed and those problems disappeared. I also believe they have the best temperament of all sighthounds. It breaks my heart to hear the decline of this breed, it is truly one of my favorite breeds as
  3. Good luck troy boy, it sounds like you are going to have some fun. One day I will have to see these fens for myself.
  4. They certainly look like they can run, atb with them
  5. They are good guard dogs and very hardy, I have seen them swing off cattle tails getting stomped and kicked without seeming to bother them. Definitely one man dogs, I keep away from them as most are nasty c$%ts
  6. Use your dog if you think he is good enough
  7. I wouldnt hold him back but wouldnt work him too hard either build him up and by 2 years you should be able to send him in on anything
  8. Thanks for the pics, they have a bit of deerhound and a lot of saluki obviously, what else is in their make up? I imagine grey, is there any bull or terrier? Just curiously. Atb with them and please keep the pics coming. Cheers.
  9. beautiful looking pup and kim is a fine looking bitch too. any pics of razor? i know there are many pics of him all through this site but i never get sick of seeing him. atvb with the pup and please more pics or stories of sire, dam or pups
  10. Sorry, I'll shut up and stop ruining Vin's excellent topic as my comments have got me in hot water yet again. Now, about the spectacular disasters that got away .... haha you can't help it if your dogs never miss skycat, don't worry about jealous people, me included, lol
  11. Sorry to hear about your bad luck, atvb with the new prospect
  12. You sound like a good man rsa.ie, must be different hunting Ireland to SA. Please let us know how the boergreys perform in your new environment. Atvb.
  13. Thanks for sharing, I hope those days can be enjoyed again and and again atvb to you.
  14. good luck Kieran j you seem very keen and willing to do your research and i hope you get what you want. as you can tell from this thread and its the same in many similar threads there are many breeds that can and will do the job, if you have a preference for a breed, which i am sure you must, try and find a good worker with that breed in it as first and foremost you have to feel good about the dog. i know you want an 'all rounder' as everybody does but you have to take into consideration what your main quarry will be and the type of land you will be hunting. i like these threads as the old boy
  15. You have so many options with a bitch like that, but as has been said I would use a good lurcher that does the job, my preference would be something with a bit of kelpie.
  16. beautiful photos, country side and dogs. i would love to see that country for myself, as good as your photos it must be truly breathtaking to be there. atb.
  17. Always love to see pics of razor and his offspring. all the best with the pup and I won't complain if there are more razor/offspring pics put up.
  18. Nice looking animals, how are they bred and what height?
  19. I personally would give the dog somewhere to sun itself, not knocking your kennel though that is a solid construction
  20. Beautiful pups, it's very hard to find pups even close to that in oz. If you ever want to test them on aussie charlie I know a couple of dens
  21. Thanks for posting results I will remember that for future. Atb
  22. Animal fat has worked a treat for me in the past for the exact same problem. Add it to its normal food and with the amount of work you are doing you should see results very quickly. I used beef fat but lamb or pork should work too. Atb.I shouldnt say 'exact same problem' as I was putting weight on an underweight, very unfit pit. But the transformation was amazing as he went from a skinny, sorrowful looking animal to a strong powerful looking animal in 4-5 weeks. I then had to reduce (not stop) giving him fat to get him to a good working condition as with all the extra muscle/weight he would he
