  1. It would be nice if you could produce enough to make a living. That would be a good reason to build a cabin in the woods.
  2. I reckon that charcoal making could be one of those skills that takes a long time to master.
  3. Just don't tell him about the walnut shell exfoliating face cream , or he'll never leave you alone ?.
  4. That's a cracking video . I reckon it could be quite relaxing once you've mastered the art. Unless you were selling the charcoal, you'd need to have plenty of bbqs to make it worthwhile.
  5. Dude you just can't post things like that on here . You should be posting that on www.takingitupthebum.com where they would appreciate your efforts ?.
  6. Looks like you've had another busy one. ?. I've tried bracken beating for the last couple of years , and although it held the bracken back a bit , it's still growing. This year I've been strimming, and hoping that it won't come back next year.
  7. Only basic stuff like oak chopping boards, fishing priests ,or the odd bowl , nothing special really. I have made the odd unusual thing though . I was once asked to make a wand . A mate made me a bronze axe and knife( so that I didn't kill the fairy magic by using steel tools) , and I made a load of wands . I made them from , oak , copper wire , and , deer antler . I was gobsmacked when they all sold ?.
  8. Yep , that's me. I don't go without a single thing these days , but nothing I have comes from my wages , every penny of that goes into the family pot(even though my kids are grown up). Everything that I have , is either bought for me by the Mrs and kids (they really spoil me) , or bought with cash I make from buying and selling, or from selling craft things that I make.
  9. ??????????. I'm laughing because you're bang on the money ?.
  10. That's very true ? . My problem is that I'm very comfortable these days , but in the past , I've gone to bed very hungry way too many times . Its the thought of those bad old days , that has always pushed me to work hard and make money , and look after my wife and kids . The thought of ending up back in that situation, stops me from taking risks.?
  11. I've seen the same . I'd guess that some of them are perfectly legit , and others are just chancing their arm at getting planning permission, and some are just living the dream. I know that in the past , it was quite a common thing for people to buy a small/cheap plot of grazing land , then throw a couple of , donkeys, horses, llamas, alpacas, on there , then put a caravan on there , as they need security, then apply for planning permission for a permanent residence, then sell the land with planning permission, or build the house and sell it. I believe that although it can still b
  12. Drink it from your sweaty boot . It'll taste better than drinking it from a paper cup ??.
  13. I was a member of moochers years ago. They had a member that was an anti . The difference of opinions was always very, open , honest , and , polite . Because of that , it was always very interesting to hear the views and opinions from the other side , even though I rarely agreed with them.
  14. North Wales is a beautiful part of the country . We looked at a few pieces of woodland up that way before I bought my little plot , a bit closer to home. Living off grid doesn't have to be rough ( unless you prefer it that way) . Just a little bit of forward planning, and extra graft , and you can be pretty comfortable. I'd guess that keeping cattle might be a bit more challenging, but as long as you don't mind the extra effort, it would be great. We rarely stay at our woodland for more than a long weekend , maybe a week at a push , but I'd love to try living off grid . Seve
  15. 83 acres is a cracking piece of land to dissappear into . You can manage quite well without mains electricity or water , just as long as youre sensible, don't mind putting a bit of graft in , and limit your expectations slightly. ?
  16. As a kid , I would have climbed to the top of that tree in the blink of an eye , but , as a 54 year old , I'd piss my pants just watching someone else climbing it ?. I wouldn't mind the firewood though ?.
  17. Now that's a proper days graft . I couldn’t work at that height for a million quid ?
  18. Paulus has already said that they can both come back whenever they want . All they have to do is behave like grownups. ?
  19. Give it time buddy. Some stuff just takes longer.
  20. I think I'd be tempted to try one on the camp fire ?.
  21. Do you have rattlesnakes in your part of the country ?, and is it legal to kill and eat them ?.
  22. Do you ever eat snake RS ?. I've always fancied trying rattlesnake.
  23. You certainly put the graft in ?.
  24. I've never been a fan of corned beef stew , but I looked at that pic , and could have just eaten it ?. Funnily enough, It was my old man's favourite meal.
