  1. Don't think they will be particularly slow. I've seen a couple of the leggier pointers that could shift a bit.
  2. Had something similar and police didn't even turn up. Gamekeeper called them, and was on the phone as I got back to the car. Ended up having a reasonable chat with him and thought I'd convinced him I was just walking the dogs. The next week letter from Old Bill turned up. Thankfully the car was registered to my Mrs who put on her best posh accent and went mental down the phone. Got an apology and marker taken off the car.
  3. Looks like some memorable sport. Do you have any pics of your days out with the East of England whippet club? Have seen some cracking Ted Walsh pics from the WCC but none from the other clubs.
  4. Can't speak for the ones over here but I know from speaking to people in the US that there are some handy ones over there. The dog on the right in this pic is a silken. Apparently it is mustard behind a jackrabbit.
  5. What an odd post. You must have posted a pic on here of every single rabbit your dog has ever caught and now you're talking about packing up because you've seen a few hares. What's that all about?
  6. Most of the people who claim to have Laguna whippets have stuff bred by or down from Mike Brown, as his stuff has Laguna dogs behind it, although a few generations back now. The actual Laguna kennel breeds one litter a year tops, and they are very capable little dogs, with the emphasis on little - they are very recognisable and don't look anything like MB's stuff, with the bitches typically 17" to 18.5" and dogs 18" to 19".
  7. Mate had a litter the other way round - sire 26" coursing dog, dam 19" whippet. Litter ranged from 18" to 23.5". Bitches averaged around 20/21. Would imagine yours will be an inch or two taller at least.
  8. Ped whippets generally have better stamina than greyhounds so that shouldn't be an issue.
  9. Can't believe people are praising someone for killing hares in the middle of May, and then when people who stick to the season which has been established for hundreds of years point out that it ain't on, they are accused of making the site shit. Why can't you wait til stubbles to get your pup going? What are you really proving by running it on hares that either in kindle or shagged out and distracted/disadvantaged by hormones? The site has gone to shit, mainly because it's full of idiots who think it's fine to run all summer.
  10. Brilliant, those two will be thick as thieves. The lad looks chuffed to bits.
  11. The coursing standard was 20" across the board which is why most people ran bitches instead of dogs. I'm sure there are show dogs quite a bit bigger than 20.5 now. Are you sure coursing and racing dogs had to have been placed in the show ring? First I've heard of it, and I know of some top pre-ban coursing whippets who have been nowhere near a showring.
  12. The whippet is one of the few breeds that hasn't been ruined by the showing brigade, mainly because many of the top breeders up until the ban were coursing, racing and showing the same animals. How long that will continue is open to question as the show dogs seem to be getting bigger, with slab sides and don't look like they could turn too well. Having said that most of the whippets at Crufts could still do what they were originally bred for to some extent. Not sure if that applies to the other running breeds - the winning saluki looked like it moved nicely to me but got no idea if it coul
  13. Best thread on here for ages, especially for those of us who only got in to the game after the ban. Some great tales of a different era. Changed a lot now but me and my mates are still having great days out.
  14. Great sport that, running hares in a swamp, well done lads.
  15. And that some folk on here are fairly recently descended from monkeys
  16. This bitch Mars could run really enjoyed the clip I like watching a saluki run as much as the next man but that second slip was a kick up, pure and simple. The bloke on camera sounds surprised that the bitch is "killing everything". No wonder when he's giving it slips more suited to a whippet.
  17. Was about to say the same thing - strikes me as overkill running two dogs and a bird on one hare, would much rather watch either dogs or falcon. The problem is that if you just fly a falcon the hare will just hide under bushes and refuse to run so it ends up being a rat hunt. With the dogs pushing the hare it has to run and you get a nice multistoop flight. As we are not running flat winter wheat fields but rolling broken ground with bushes arroyos all kinds of cover it is very easy for the dogs to be unsighted so the kill rate with just dogs is pretty low. The falcon can spot the hares a
  18. Lovely pack there mate. How tall is the dam? She looks on the small side for a pure to me but I'm no expert.
  19. Gutted? I'd be f***ing delighted if I'd just picked up 600 acres.
