Views on the .204 Ruger for rabbiting
alan81 replied to matthill01's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
You may not see the point in waste but to others the point of the exercise is not to produce a harvest but to actually remove vermin I have no respect for what I kill I give it no second thought there is no need for sentiment I'm paid and expected to do a job I enjoy that is killing vermin and producing game for others to kill my harvest is the money in the bank at the end of the month and my only concern is that what I do is humane and when it comes to making things dead you can never have too much gun. well I can understand your way of thinking a little more now I know its your job but- 26 replies

I do respect the animals I hunt and shoot I think you have to if we didn't it wouldn't be long before there would be none left. the animal doesn't care if its left to rot in the field its dead but I do, there's no point in killing something to just leave it there when its good food. fun is only a part of hunting/shooting for me its not the hole point. I don't see the point in waste.- 26 replies

just because you have A.O.L.Q on your licence doesn't mean you should blow an animal to pieces. shooting and hunting to me is not about mindless killing with no respect for the animal. every animal I shoot goes to good use bar fox's. there all either eaten by me the dogs or the ferret. and to say its only ferret food, meat damage doesn't matter is siht talk. 1 hole rabbit will feed a ferret for just as long as 3 or 4 that have been shot to pieces. so your view's are its just a rabbit it doesn't matter?- 26 replies

why the fcuk would you want to shoot a rabbit with a .204? that's just ridicules you must be on a seek and destroy mission or something. .204 is a foxing round and if you want long rang precision that's fine get the gun and stick to paper and fox's.- 26 replies

Collie Grey X Salukie Dearhound Grey Matted My Bull Terrier
alan81 replied to bigoy19706's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
don't listen to the bullsiht about drowning them they could be [BANNED TEXT] dogs there's enough good bull crosses out there to prove that. take a chance on one and get homes for the rest. -
maybe people do use super glue but I don't see it as a good idea it would burn the open wound plus its poison. you might be better to just give it time and let it heal.

and if you went to an Irish country night with that attitude you'd get smashed up. if its not your thing fair enough but a lot of people like that style of music and its not for you to tell anyone other wise. -
you could wrap some boxing bandage around her stoppers when your going to run her. I had a bitch who ripped her stoppers so they were barely hanging on so I cut them off, I know that sounds bad but they were just hanging on by skin. she never had a problem with them again.

fcuk me I want a night in the dales I wouldn't get 100 rabbits in a week of lamping. Edited to say well done lads and dogs.

lovely bitch you have there Rabbiting man

yea iv seen the .22 Hornet on rabbit and fox its a great little foxing gun but far to much for rabbit. as I see it the only firearms suitable for rabbit are the .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR. anything more is to much unless its strictly used for head shots. what's the point in obliterating countless numbers of animals that could go to good use.
-
there's no way a .22 WMR did that damage iv shot thousands of rabbits with both hollow point and v-max and I never saw that damage.

lovely little pup the shape it has already.

Most Important Quality In A Running Dog.....
alan81 replied to BORDERSCOT's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
first thing is gameness then brains and then feet. either one on its own will only go so far and a dog with just one wont go to far. -
you have her in some shape mate there's a lot of work gone in there. keep us posted on how she gets on. how tall is she 24" 25"? and how's she bred?
-
I love the chase when the dog has to use its head and the catch/kill is the cream on top.
-
I think the .17 Hornet would be the closest calibre we have to the .17 WSM and saying that I think the .17 Hornet would still cause more damage as it is 600 fps faster than the .17 WSM but the .17 WSM is nearly 500 fps faster than the .17 HMR so after some videos iv seen and the damage to the two rabbits above I think the .17 WSM might be a bit to much for rabbit but a good foxing gun. I don't see the point in over kill you cant even feed a dog with over kill never mind feed yourself.

here's two 100 yard 3 shot groups I shot 10 min ago I would have done a few 5 shot groups but I only had 6 rounds. the shots were taken of the bipod while lying on the ground.
-
hea deker what were those two rabbits shot with? Im guessing it was the .17 Hornet? thanks.
-
its a very good gun I have the CZ 452 lux .22 WMR and I use Hornady 30gr v-max through it. its not as flat as the .17 HMR but your only talking a few inch's at 150 yards. with a zero at 100 yards you would be using a 1 mill dot hold over at 150 - 160 yards and at 200 yards you would use a 2 1/4" mill dot hold over. it is affected by wind fairly badly but not as badly as the .17 HMR. a 10 - 12 mpr cross wind will affect it by anything from 4.5" - 6.5" at 100 yards. the 30gr v-max round is a very good round imo, I shot rabbits out to 164 yards no problem [ my furthest rabbit ] and fox out to 130

Hows Alan..rabbits scarse here as well .you will only get them in pockets in certin fields Couple of lads I know use gun and lamp from a jeep ,spoils it ,,,.....I dont mind walking through fields but you would like to come on a bit of game ..NO MATTER we hunt on yea mate I don't mind walking either I was out the night before last and I must have walked 4 miles and only got 7 rabbits, its a big difference on last year I would of had 20 or 30 on the same walk last year but as you say we'll hunt on.
