  1. with Hornady 40gr a 50 yard zero would be the same as a 200 yard zero and if your shot was 0.5" high at 50 yards it would be the same as a 250 yard zero but your using home loads so that's of no real use to you.
  2. tac-tic is good iv used it, you wash the dog with it a few times and your good to go. Ivomec is good to but just give the dog 1ml no more its very strong and it stings. don't forget to wash out the dogs kennel area with Jays fluid or similar to kill any mange in the kennel.
  3. yea staba mate I was talking about a pup. An adult dog should get between 3% and 4% of its body weight with the 4% been for a very active dog that's been worked fairly hard. As said it could be that she is coming into heat. See how she go's and a vet will/should have the best advice.
  4. there's no point in comparing the HMR to the Hornet one is a RF and the other a CF. its like comparing a .243 to a .300 WIN MAG. the only calibre the HMR can be compared to is the .22WMR and the HMR outperforms the WMR by a fair bit. what I have to laugh at is most of the HMR haters love the inferior WMR. If the Hornet has to be compared to a RF then wait a few years until the .17WSM gets up and running (if it ever does). Yes the HMR is a 200 yard rifle.
  5. no it is not bad for your pup but she needs bone and organ with it, also some finely chopped green veg. % meat 10% bone 10% organ and some veg. a pup should get 5% of its body weight in RAW food per day. I cant see meat causing her to loos hair unless its a protein imbalance or something.
  6. could be Deker I bet you shot that under a black torn bush
  7. not very common but very real they spend most of there lives above ground and rarely in warrens.
  8. it could be a hedge rabbit they are a fawn colour.
  9. I never tried the 40gr but lads on another forum love them and at 3800fps there the flattest round you'll get for the .223, there also supposed to be very hard hitting.
  10. I use the 53gr superformance and its a great round. very accurate and like little bombs when they hit a fox.
  11. celticrusader I was not hinting at you, I was simply stating that the HMR is well capable for fox out to 150+ yards. now to those who think its not, if you have a HMR I think you need to get out and use your gun because you don't know what it is capable of and for those who don't own one, try one before you judge.
  12. the video Elliott put up has just shown 8 dead fox's at 100 yards. well not really but if those red dots were red fox heads it would have been. people take rabbits with head shots past 150 yards regular with the HMR so how is it so hard to shoot a fox at that distance? Answer- its not. Even with a 20mph wind as long as you know your gun its a dead fox and if its not, sell your gun.
  13. sharpshooter25 if you cant drop a fox stone dead at 100-150 yards with the HMR I think you need to change your name. windage shouldn't be a problem its a HMR, don't shoot it in strong winds.
  14. I said 189 yards but I agree with you that there are better tools for the job that's why I got a .223. As for shooting fox's in the neck with a WMR or HMR nearly all of them are DRT its not like you have to finish them all of with a second.
  15. just to ad about the .17HMR having two extreme's, I find that both the HMR and WMR tend to do more damage past 100 yards when the bullet slows down a bit but at closer ranges 30 to 60 yards the bullet can just go straight through from not expanding quick enough. some might disagree but id think more wont.
  16. lads the .17HMR is more than capable for fox out to 150+ yards and don't mind anyone who says its not, they just cant use it. I stopped a fox in his tracks at 189 yards with my 22WMR he needed a second shot when I got to him but he never moved a step. don't forget the HMR has a fair bit more power than my WMR at that rang so its well up to the task. a mate of mine has taken a fair amount of fox at 150 yards and further with his HMR. Edited to say 90% of our shots are neck shots. they don't move much when shot in the neck.
  17. .17 HMR for rabbit and if you meet a fox out to 150 yards it will take him to. .204 or .223 for fox and your good out to 300+ yards. I wouldn't worry about ammo cost for a .204 or .223 if its for hunting and not targets.
  18. I wouldn't worry to much about that now mate with all the reports of corruption and the new minister Francis Fitsjerld promising to reform AGS plus with Calinan gone the new Garda commissioner who ever it may be will have a lot more to worry about than the former commissioner's petti proposals. if you want the gun go and get it.
  19. check out youtube for Baikle mp 153 these guns are true work horses. you can fill these guns full of sticky muck and it will still shoot every time ( don't block the bore doe ). they have a downfall doe, if you want to change from 2 3/4" carts to 3" or 31/2" carts you have to take the fore end of and set it by turning a ring by hand but the Baikle mp 153 will never miss a beat. Edited to say the Baikle mp 153 was put through a torture test where it fired 50,000 rounds without been cleaned and it never failed once.
  20. congrats on the new gun mate but id zero it at 200 yards. the .223 is a flat shooting gun so why not take advantage of that. using Hornady 53gran superformence with a 200 yard zero there's just 5.6" of drop at 300 yards. atb with the new gun.
  21. I had a savage 93R and now have a cz452. the savage has a very nice trigger but I would never swap my cz for another savage. the cz is lighter and easier to shoulder. as for the cz trigger I never changed mine I just kept shooting away and broke the trigger in and now its very good. my advice is cz all the way.
  22. WD-40 should take the rust of but make sure to get all the WD-40 of after cleaning and then use gun oil.
  23. if it is cycling light loads fine now it will always cycle.
  24. the reason I keep the WMR is because 99% of the rabbits I shoot are well under 100 yards so there is no need for guess work plus I would get near to noting for it on a trade in. I asked my local gun dealer what he would give me for it on a trade in against the same gun ( CZ 452 ) in .17 HMR, he told me less than 200 euro that would be a loss of 400 euro, he also told me he wouldn't be able to sell it because everyone was getting either the .22LR or the .17HMR and that no one was buying the WMR. I only know one other person with a WMR and that's my brother everyone else I know that shoots has a
  25. don't get me wrong I love my WMR I just think the HMR is a lot easier round to shoot, with less guess work and further ranges. but there's noting a WMR can do that a HMR cant do and vice a versa its just that the HMR does it better. IMO and that's all it is is my opinion when it comes to the WMR and the HMR the later is the clear winner. I know there are different calibres and we need them there's not one gun for all but I was just comparing these two rounds I wasn't talking about the .22LR or the hornet or a cannon.
