Foxes Or Rather A Lack Of Them
alan81 replied to charlie caller's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
so you would like to do away with true working type dogs? dogs that have helped people hunt for food and control unwanted pests for thousands of years. dogs and people have had a relationship since people started using wolfs for hunting. hunting dogs are mans real best friend and represent thousands of years of tradition and you would get rid of them just like that. THATS WRONG. -

a fox that has been coursed and gets away is very wary from then on and hard to course again but iv yet to see a fox get away from dogs wounded above or below ground. Yes in the same way that a fox that has been shot at in the lamp beam and missed is a very wary fox and will usually run at the first sign of a lamp, that said I have yet to see a fox get away after its just caught a grain soft point in the chest. a fox that has been coursed and gets away is very wary from then on and hard to course again but iv yet to see a fox get away from dogs wounded above or bel -

Ah the old "I've made a c**t off it so ill say its a wind up" routine...... Hilarious... Lol If you think rabbit makes up 95% of a foxes diet your the c**t old mate, he wasn't calling you a c**t, he was going along with the craic -
Why has he held it back till two years old ?? Whats his rational for that ?? Was it imature ?? Two years is wasting time in the feild in my opinion... Yeah dont rush them, but the seasons aint that long and with hard frost you loose so many days.... Even at two he would still have to ease it in slowly so it may not be into its full swing till 3 years plus.. Plus if its no good its been a long wait to discover that... there is a lad around my way who holds his dogs back till there 2 as well, he says there not ready till there 2. i like to start them between 8 and 10 months.

I know I think im probably going to have to change the gun. I was looking at the Mossberg 930 and its almost the very same so maybe its not all bad. I wouldn't have to do anything only for a lad shot the top of the barrel while out wood quest shooting. it was a total accident we were in the same hide and should have been more carful.
-
that's an idea all [BANNED TEXT] but I doubt I would be allowed a 2nd licence for to have 2 of the same guns.
-
my gun dealer has tried Mossberg with no luck. I think I could be pissing in the wind they stopped making this model 12 years ago and stopped making the 5500 before that. ill try find 1 for another while, here's hoping.
-
yes its looking like I might have to trade in I have my local gun trader and a gun smith looking for a barrel for me but its not looking good so far. ill hold out a little longer to see will 1 come up.

they can be very good dogs mate i have a saluki / bull x grey / bull x wheatin / grey and he's a right good dog he'll take anything i send him to. i also have a 10 month old bull / grey x wheatin / grey and he's looking very promising for this year. some nice dogs there lads.

has to be a piss take 5 months is far to young and 1 lad said if his pup wasn't catching double figures at 5 months it would get a bullet hahaha. i wouldn't start working a pup till its 8 months and i wouldn't give it any hard running till its 12 months it still a pup at 12 months.

i went out with the dogs tonight from 10:30 till 11:45 for a few rabbits i haven't been out with the lamp in a while and thought i would get a few but i was wrong i only saw one rabbit and one fox. that's a huge difference on last year, in one hour last year i would have 10 or so rabbits and i would have seen a load of foxes. -

yes they tried with the rabbits and back when mixo was invented and with other methods they did a very good job but I suspect when the rabbit population droped so dramatically as it did efforts dropped in toe. there are not to many people hunting crocks and less hunting sharks that helps a top predator. there are a lot of people hunting foxes and I do agree they are true survivors but in recant years there are less than ever before. its not just down to hunters but we play a big part. foxes also play a big part in nature and we need to respect them as well as control them. -
