  1. I headed out and the lamp went dead in 5 min so either battery or charger fcuked I may sort that first thing in the morn.
  2. I got soaked through last night it pissed down, got 7 so was happy enough. heading out tonight again its just drizeling here now so hope I see a few more tonight.
  3. all my dogs will jump fences but I never made them jump gates I got them to just get through the bars its a bit noisy with a rattily gate but I hate dogs jumping gates I always think there going to brake a toe or leg, I know it might never happen but its in me head.
  4. its up to you but I wouldn't bring him hunting until he is fairly good on recall. if he is as hard to catch as you say he is you will have no chance of catching him if he catches a rabbit because he will think you are trying to take his hard earned prize.
  5. if he's still holding it up after 3 days it must be hurting him fairly bad is he walking on it or limping bad if he's limping bad I would bring him to the vet but if he's walking ok id give it another few days.
  6. never saw one work but I would say it could be a handy little mouchin/bushing dog.
  7. in one cross you have 3 breeds and lets say you have 9 pups they could all come to 1 type or you could get 3 different types of pups. with the more crosses in the mix the less sure you can be of how they will come. a greyhound crossed with a whippet/hound has 2 crosses of similar type so id say the 3/4grey/whippet could come taller
  8. I would go with the greyhound rather than the whippet if your going 3/4. I think a 24"/25" dog can put in a longer shift while been a bit tougher than say a 21"/22" dog. naturally the greyhound would make the cross a bit tougher than the whippet in the cross imo.
  9. good night you had there mate and fair play the dog 31 out of 34 is excellent.
  10. mate it doesn't really matter what you go for you could get a lurcher/lurcher cross and not really know what's in the mix and it could be better than the crosses mentioned but to put a cross on paper I would go for whippet x collie/grey. 1/2 whippet 1/4 collie 1/4 grey, good for mouching and lamping, good feet, brains, speed and should turn good to also calm and relaxed like you wanted but its up to you and im sure no matter what you get you will be happy with it. atb
  11. I [farmers name and address] give [your name and address] permission to hunt and shoot vermin on my land. shotgun and riffle. date. both signatures.
  12. the first knuckle above the paw do you mean her knee? if you do and its not swelled up she should be wright in a week or less but without a picture its hard to say.
  13. that's a bad cut mate. I hate barbed wire when im out with the dogs but it is the only wire that will keep cattle from breaking out. I hate it but I still use it myself im fcuked if im chasing cattle around the countryside.
  14. good size fox there mate. I like that dog more and more every time I see him is he first cross?
  15. yea I typed in feral goats in the search engine today and I read about some of his outings, real good wright ups and sounds like he has a good dog for the job to. I never spoke to him on here doe and thought it would be a bit brazing to pm him. maybe he will see this and get back to me, come on jigsaw help me out
  16. I will be collecting my .223 in a few weeks time and iv wanted to go goat shooting for a few years now but there are none anywhere near me in Wexford and I don't know anyone who could give me permission elsewhere. is there anyone on here who could help me out with getting permission probably around Tipperary, Offaly or Wicklow or maybe further. I know this is a long shot but you never know unless you try. thanks lads.
  17. What are the greyhound whippets like has anyone reading had one? I thought collie crosses were more for coursing? I had a whippet/grey bitch a few years back she was a great little dog very calm and very loyal and a great dog on a rabbit but if I could have added anything to her I would have added a bit of collie just to give her some more wind.
  18. now that's how it should be done 1 man 1 dog and 3 dead boar not 40+ men 20+ dogs and half the dogs dead by the end of the day. some of the dogs did look handy doe looked a lot like the gul-ter.
  19. a terrier/whippet can be very head strong which is only natural its half terrier. a whippet x collie/grey would be a better choice imo, its only 1/4 collie so not to much brains to make him difficult but still more than the terrier brings.
  20. if your looking for a calm easy going dog either a full whippet or a whippet/greyhound or whippet x collie/grey.
  21. nice going there. if I was you id try find out who was on the other end of the air rifle and then knock his lights out.
  22. yea if she is barking on the chase id hold her back for a bit. when they bark while running a rabbit they tend to be frustrated and that's no good but if she's just barking around the house I wouldn't mind to much she is half GSD. atb with her.
  23. nice one trunk, that's some dog you have.
