My avator pic was taken in the lodge ...with Ally Mcoist who I often fish with there ...good craic even though hes from the darkside
-
That pool in the bottom pic THE UPPER FLATS I had 5 salmon and a 5-6lb sea trout a mate had 3 salmon 1 of 15lb and another mate had 2 salmon all in the same evening on 2011 which was the best run of salmon I had seen for many years ...lost a fish there last year that I only saw a bit of its tail as it took the fly ...had it on for 27 minutes and it snapped me im sure it was around the 30lb mark ....The viaduct pool below the bridge is one of my most productive pools its not easy fished but once you crack it you can have some good takes right at the tail of the pool you have to cast square ac

The lodge is impressive and what a location ive had some crakin nights in there ...a few I cant remember much about ...it has to be one of the best fly waters on the river as every bit of it holds fish and have seen big numbers coming off the tide ....and if theres been big water and it starts dropping the flats bellow the lodge can hold huge shoals of stacked up fish ...im hopefully home in the next few days will give you a bell for a cast ....you cant beat a bit of local knowledge
-
I can see the pics now ...Kinnaber its a pity I wasnt at home I could of given you a few tips as I run the syndicate on there and fish it as much as I can great bit of fly water and crakin spot for the lodge but I wouldnt bother with the double hander this time of year .....24 sea trout ????? 24 finnock ..hopefully im home from Nam in the next few days and will out for a cast .....were there much grilse showing as my mate had 3 on Pert this week ?

Agree with lurcher 83 ive always tried to come away and the end of a session with a youngster with a catch so thats the last thing on its mind when finnished ...like I say let them think there on top and winning and theres no hurry all pups come on and develop differantly whether it be lurcher or terrier
-
No rules what so ever when bringing on a pup as long as the youngster thinks its winning ....which is hard to explain on here ...make it fun and enjoyable when there young and build on there confindance ...then when there ready and fit throw as much at them as you can so you know what kind of dog you have on the end of the slip
-
Heres a pic with his litter brother with the lad that owns the dam hes throwen a bit racier should have some fun on the rabbits with these 2
-
The dog game just like any other pastime will always have dreamers and messers in it midst ...just keep decent , honest dogs and lads around you and forget about the rest you cant do more than that ......you can tell a lot about someone by the people he has around him

Homemade Biltong Project
MIK replied to Martin Hinchliffe's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
It takes a bit of trial and error but once youve cracked it its good gear ...I would recommend the safari billtong spice and try and cut the meat along the grain ...they pics are my first attempt with venison and it was across the grain of the meat but like I say trial and error -
Im just asking a simple question lad where and with whom did you shoot geese in the Montrose area?....why are you not telling ?...
-
The first year they released the white tailed eagles one was in the field at the back of house .....we went to get the wardens at the wildlife centre to show them ...big impressive bird I see them most years I had a pair on my shoot just north of the town but imo there is no need for them in such a heavily populated area a bird like that could do some damage if hungry .....just another apex predator being introduced and cared for by the rspb ....give me a shout next time your up this way and I will take you to some spots that only the locals no about
-
If your on about my black lab bitch Kanigra she stopped picking live geese half way through last season ...so a keeper mates wife has her for picking up...she was a good strong bitch too for the water
-
Thats because every time I pump your burd haymin she makes me a sandwich

My house overlooks the Basin or Baggies as we locals call it and it is some sight watching them come off in the morning and return from the fields at dusk ...Ive been out in the mud with my auld man (who still shoots there) since I was about 5-6 and im now 40 that was in the days before it was a reserve and a permit was needed ....I dont shoot it as much as I used too but still enjoy a flight if the tide is right and theres a big wind ....give me a shout birdsallp next time your up and I will get a craic with you and show you a few spots ....roll on Sept
-
Don't shoot for nothing if visiting the basin. £18 a day last season How did you find the basin birdsallpl ?and what time of year were you there ?
-
If you need to ask the question why ...then you have never been wildfowling Is it maybe your not telling me Les is because you are lying ?...you have never ever shot in that area
-
where and who with did you go wildfowling while in Scotland Les? Why money grabbing if local you get a permit for 18 quid for the whole season which I think is very reasonable theres not many places you can have 70000 pinks come in or off to roost .
