  3. I once saved a baby bird that was being kicked about by two boys on our street (we were about 9/10 at the time) I ran up punched one straight in the face and then picked up the others bike and threw it at him hitting him in the face too, both then legged it, to their “mummies”, so I lobbed the bike in the middle of a bramble bush, picked up the bird and went home. About three hours later one of the lads mum appeared at our front door to yell at my dad about a new bike being owed as I’d bent the wheel or something. (Dad had been beaming with pride when I explained what I’d done. Mum yelled at m
  4. This is exactly the problem I have. I love animals, i never intend to be cruel and I show respect for what goes on my table. I take gray squirrels because I love the native reds, I support the boar cull in the Forest as the numbers are out of control and its damaging other wildlife habitats. I'll happily sit and admire a beautiful deer as soon as I would shoot one in the right circumstances, but not to see it die and then measure its head. because without control they will all be negatively effected,(oh and I fecking love venison!) Trying to argue my love of nature when I also hunt is the
  5. =( I'm very worried about the state farmers must be in, last couple of summers have been bad, plus the snow killing off so much livestock early this year and now the rain won't piss off to get the crops going. I know a lot of the rape fields have been replanted in the Forest due to failures. I'm sure Monstanto will pop up anytime soon with their super english weather resistant supercrops... after you've signed your soul over to them of course. Unhappy with the way things seem to be going is an understatement, I love the countryside, and support small scale farmers.
  6. Great, I love the UK but the weather gets me down...when its constantly grey and wet grey and wet grey and wet urgh I love my lazy sunny days too much!
  7. On a smaller scale view, some may know Im finishing off some study currently and when I arrived at uni deciding to set up a student gun club, the University freaked out like I'd asked to set up a bomb innocent children club! I explained it was no different to the archery club who have a section of field as a range way out the way in a safe area, and the guns would be limited to those not requiring a FAC. To which they freaked even more and I nearly got disciplined for suggesting bringing offensive weapons on grounds... 90% of those I speak to at uni seem to be against it, one student asking m
  8. I'm 26 and damn sure theres a difference between the "summers" we have now and the summers I remember being off school for, weeks and weeks of sunshine now we are lucky to get three days in a row!. Plus I feel Spring is being pushed forward, and the seasons in general are losing their distinctions, rather now one long dreary rainy season for the UK.
  9. If you don't mind the mentoring role, I for one would drop everything for a chance to go out and learn somthing with a veteran of hunting. Even if that meant they sat back in a recliner while I ran around like a bugger doing all the work! Plenty of people like me who would only be too happy to take over the hard work for the learning and experience.
  10. Good morning all. Not sure if there’s already a thread, if so I apologise but I couldn’t find anything when I searched bar short youtube flicks. Figured it may be cool for those of us who enjoy putting our feet up and watching some quality hunting related videos. To have a thread devoted to quality documentaries/long video clips. I’m happy to start with some of my finds: Shadow of the Hare. How hunting influence our ancestors. Saluki hunting documentary Hunting days Preban and afterban (This is in 8 parts. Part one is linked)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk
  11. Okay, I don't agree with this not because it specifically favours a particular religion, but the fact its downright unfair in general. I'd be just as pissed if there was a Christian/Buddhist/insert anything version!| Will be closing my Lloyds account in a few hours citing this discrimination of customers as my reason. I have two accounts need shot of one anyway and this had certainly swayed my decision. Its a pain in the backside swapping banks but if you're as pissed as me its worth the effort. Vote with your feet.
  12. Fantastic photos! I love the stretching hare one, you must have a very nice camera for it to pick up the dew on the things head! Really lovely cheers for sharing.

  14. No doggie to be your hands/gun for you? Would that be an option? I'm really saddened to hear your story, reminds me of my dad who can shoot, but can't get about much now, was a shooter and dogman for years. He seems so chuffed I'm moving into it now and constantly asks me if i've got off my arse and looked for permission yet! haha The photos a great idea, need any help with the basic's of photoshop/Gimp drop me a PM would be happy to run through the basics of photo editing.
  15. Yeh bit misleading really, its not quite all! Old saying I was told.
  16. Sorry to hear about this, very devastating to lose a dog, especially one that's proven themselves to you so much... I'd be thankful it was fast, by angry about the car not stopping. Yeh accidents happen may have not been the drivers fault at all and they honestly didnt see the dog but surely they have felt the impact! You stop just for that surely?
  17. If your into your natural Could do this using only what's found in nature/survival direction google brain tanning. Every animal has enough brain to tan its entire skin. Akl packaged up ready. http://www.native-art-in-canada.com/braintanning.html Heres the process.
  18. I've not had the chance to get out with the catty much the past few months as I've been busy, but I've had to replace the bands twice over a year. I snip mine shorter too, I think shorter bands help with accuracy, (but F*&king hurt like hell if you hit a knuckle, as my now permanent scar demonstrates) I have a diablo cobra that uses tube bands, but I'm undecided on whether I like it...
  19. Good point I wasn't very specific. I really would enjoy lamping over farmland/grassland. and be able to take the dog for walks over roughish ground when I hike, dad used to take me lamping when I was younger with our old lurcher and I loved it, but I'm not looking for a hunting machine. as I would enjoy being able to take it with me when I travel, snuggle on the sofa, and enough brains that I can train the difference between going after bunnies, but not chickens/ducks cats etc. I loved the traits of a collie as the brains are there, but I want a fast dog so had been considering lurcher

  21. Right I know this thread will have very mixed results, but to put it context. Next year I will be in a position that I can finally have a dog again, and I'd like a working dog able to catch rabbits, and also be a pet. Growing up we had a collie X Lab and a Lurcher (Not sure the breeding too young). Loved those dogs and always wanted another working dog when I could, but been living in city shared houses and in study, so wasn't an option. Next year I'm back out into the rural North and will be after a pup, but beforehand I want to learn as much as possible about them so need to come to a co
  22. I use double therabands on my main catty (a side shooting gamekeeper), I'm not massively strong and find it okay, and it builds up your arm! Though I have a single theraband gold practice catty that I will admit is more accurate, but you see the power difference. To be fair though if you pull back far enough on a single it wont be far off what you can get out of doubles. Defo capable of taking game so it boils down to preference really. I use doubles as with a side shooter its nice to really feel where the bands are and I find singles "feel" to light to me.
  23. I really love your photos. Got some fantastic sketches from the last lot, will pm you when I finish the painting and email you a copy. =)
