I was looking around for some compact but prolific fruit plants, to fit into my 'tiny-space allotment' project.
In B&Q's seed selection , I came across the cucamelon (melothria scabra), and no, I'd never heard of it either !
Originally from South America, it's also known as the mouse melon and the Mexican sour gherkin. It produces grape-sized fruits that look like tiny watermelons, but taste of 'cucumber with a hint of lime' . Intrigued, I parted with £1.90, and took them home to research further.
I've discovered that they can be easily grown outdoors, in a gro-bag or pot,
