  4. Cheers Haggis81 , So the breed was bred by people who had first hand knowledge of the environment and the prey it would be hunting and never ment it to run on the flat like the saluki or the fiery make up of bull breeds all bred with a purpose.
  5. when you talk about game and stamina, good feet... Where Deerhounds not originally bred to course deer from start to finish, either kill or bring it to bay until the hunters arrived, running ruff terrain up and down glens in adverse weather conditions north of the border ? Not talking about todays over sized show stock but when the breed standard was first drawn up, dogs 28-30 inch bitches 26 inch at the shoulder, On their own turf, taking into consideration terrain conditions ect would the Deerhound come out on top? against the more popular breeds being run today.

  9. Do some basic training nothing over the the top, teach the down postion, worked for me, also scan fields parks for anything that is likely to interest your dog put it on the lead, you could also attach a rope to your lead, keep it slack when the dogs showing interest call it to you, if it does'nt respond, call it again and give the rope a slight jerk and let it go back to slack, if the dog tries to run off jerk the lead quite hard and give the comand come dont drag the dog in to you keep the tension off and call it in when it responds give it lots of praise and a treat ,keep it up for a couple
