how many dogs do you have? and pics please!
Bosun11 replied to langouroux's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have two dogs, sorry no pics at the mo as I've just got a new pc and ain't loaded anythin yet. I suppose your Mrs has a point, 3 dogs and if they are house dogs, would be, to me, just about enough! The question you should ask yourself is, 'what breed of dog would be the best to fulfill my needs for the length of its life'? For myself, as much as I admire various breeds, i'll only ever keep lurchers, as they both serve me well in both the field (my passion) and for my family as 'pets' (as such). My Mrs would love a little 'foo foo' dog but it's just sommat else to 'keep' and i'm su -
That 'you can pick your nose and you can pick your friends but you can't wipe your friends under the couch!' Seriously, for starters, he taught me to swim, not only did that enable me to compete for my country but paved a way to my chosen career in leisure. So many things came from him, he was apprenticed as a Shipwright, so woodworking skills were taught too, let me have my first knife and taught me the right and wrongs of owning one. He kept a smallholding, Border collies too, only from working stock, the'd do anything for him. Much was learnt as a child, good times, almost idillic,

Strong dog Busher, hows he bred?

You know what is funny......... It's mostley in the lurcher section on here or with lurcher owners in general that Plummer gets the most criticism, but HE first and formost considered himself a Terrierman........
-
I've said my peace on the man on the last thred about him, what I would say to you Bulcher is that Plummer was hated ( a 'strong' word, if ever there was one!) by 'some' long, long before his demise.

Gotta say, SS showed me a pic of one of these in green and with the brass, boy, does it look smart! Anyone buying one of these will get at least 5 dogs out of it..... Like he said, 'it'll last a lifetime'...... Your lifetime!!!

Was a good dog in the Northwest called Mick, off Park, in the late 's. I used it over a Park bitch I had at the time, kept a dog back and put that over a bitch out of Parks Jimmy. All turned out well.

Fly through it...... I love it, clear silent skys and beautiful sunsets..... Not to mention, that it has stopped more fecking immigrants entering this country than any political party ever could

dog for allround general work
Bosun11 replied to lurcherlamper's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
My advice would be to work backwards, so to speak. Get yourself a well bred working (digging) dog pup, of whatever breeding/type you want, then you'll greaten the chances of it doing that type of graft and then work backwards with ratting etc. Not a working terrier bred that won't make a ratter but finding a decent earth dog, one that you could work in that way, when digs are few and far between is a bit more difficult. Plus you won't know how the work you give it may change over time, you may find you enjoy digging more than you think, especially if you drop on decent permission, better -

My mate runs a colliexgreyx salukixgrey, and it is 9 years old, and it still can knock over 20-25 rabbits in a night. It as great stamina, good retriever and quick recovery rate. And it as stayed sound for years. Dont think you get will many lurchers that ( can+want to) do that amount of work at that age. So in my book this is what i would call a(very good x) as a lamping dog. f**k yous english f**k pots Thats very Irish of you Sandy, thanks

I'd go with Romany and Poach Ray, for me it would be Lurcher X Lurcher, with the only 'pedigree' being the work behind the lineage. These days, the less I can see of any particular 'breed' in a dog, the more I like it. Grafters born and bred.....!

Interesting post Chartpolski, my reconing would be a purpose bred hybrid with a foundation of either Greyhound, Whippet or similar running hound, it's uses in the hunting field are far ranging, dependent of what crosses are used. Anything that would fall into this category would be deemed 'a Lurcher', if it looks and hunts like a Lurcher then it is a Lurcher!. Giving any hybrids a differing name just because they breed true to type would be a travesty, in my eyes. Though I suppose Mr Breay and Mr Buck thought the same when people started calling their black Fell terriers 'Patterda

bosun 11,you don't even know the circumstances surrounding the the retrieve,so you're telling me you would come on and post a picture showing it,if that lad or anyone posted a picture in winter of their first winter hare I would be the first to congratulate them,so get a grip bosun I'm saying what most people are thinking,if everybody killed summer game there would'nt be a thing left in the country to pursue in wintertime,I was told by a mutual friend of us both you knew the game, if you have a personal problem with my posts pm me and I'll put you straight, atb, wirralman Woodbine spot
-
I notice the lads post is on 14th febuary, thats not the summer where I come from. Well spotted Woodbine
-
I suppose the Wirral Country 'Know It All' is right and no respect is to be gained for posting about an out of season hare BUT where he is wrong, is the bit about it being 'no big deal'....... Well it is to this lad! It's his dogs first hare and no matter what time of year it is, to this lad, knowing his dog has done it is a 'very big deal'...! No, it may never take a strong January hare but I hope he now knows that he'd be better to see the summer out and then he can go at 'em with a vengance next season!
