  1. Interesting post Chartpolski, my reconing would be a purpose bred hybrid with a foundation of either Greyhound, Whippet or similar running hound, it's uses in the hunting field are far ranging, dependent of what crosses are used. Anything that would fall into this category would be deemed 'a Lurcher', if it looks and hunts like a Lurcher then it is a Lurcher!. Giving any hybrids a differing name just because they breed true to type would be a travesty, in my eyes. Though I suppose Mr Breay and Mr Buck thought the same when people started calling their black Fell terriers 'Patterda
  2. bosun 11,you don't even know the circumstances surrounding the the retrieve,so you're telling me you would come on and post a picture showing it,if that lad or anyone posted a picture in winter of their first winter hare I would be the first to congratulate them,so get a grip bosun I'm saying what most people are thinking,if everybody killed summer game there would'nt be a thing left in the country to pursue in wintertime,I was told by a mutual friend of us both you knew the game, if you have a personal problem with my posts pm me and I'll put you straight, atb, wirralman Woodbine spot
  3. I notice the lads post is on 14th febuary, thats not the summer where I come from. Well spotted Woodbine
  4. I suppose the Wirral Country 'Know It All' is right and no respect is to be gained for posting about an out of season hare BUT where he is wrong, is the bit about it being 'no big deal'....... Well it is to this lad! It's his dogs first hare and no matter what time of year it is, to this lad, knowing his dog has done it is a 'very big deal'...! No, it may never take a strong January hare but I hope he now knows that he'd be better to see the summer out and then he can go at 'em with a vengance next season!
  5. Very difficult to sort mate, with a dog as old as that as usually not only do you have the sickening crys of the dog each night but the damage done the next mornin and then on top the worry of it getting out! My advice would be to really get to grips with re-enforcing your run, right down to anti-chew strips round the kennel door or, look into getting an all metal run in and a very strong, well insulated kennel. The next step is excercising the arse off your mutt, every day! Best of luck
  6. Tidy lookin pup, best of luck with it, can I ask what it's out of and how far back is the Pie dog? Your dead right Stabba, head size matters 'not a jot' but as Bird commented on it, I think the lad took it as a compliment and theres feck all wrong with that!
  7. By my own admission, I'm very crap at this type of 'what the feck is it' type thing but that looks like a fecking Vulture???????
  8. Another very good show Brickie, one that needs more support, hope there is a good turnout for this one this year
  9. Chimp, I stand corrected on your mates 'cotton mouthed wonder dog' , fabulous! Not only retrieved but gutted and de-scaled too...... Thanks for sharing
  10. Great pics Bird, very interesting, love to see lurchers doin sommat a little different every so often, just proves what a wonderfully, versatile animal the working lurcher is. Oh and Chimp, if your really "not being funny", then put some pics up of your mates 'cotton mouthed wonder dog' or shut the feck up!!!
  11. Good thred Chartpolski I think you may be right and Deerhound crosses are making a bit of a comeback, not before time either! There's always gonna be a place in this fair Isle for this cross, it's good to know that the folk who 'champion' them are looking to 'working' standards. Some of the best working lurchers I've ever seen in the field are of Deerhound decent, long may it continue.....
  12. Dan, as always, you talk a lot of sense, thank you CP you too The problem over this side of the pond is ....... Most folk think 'the grass is always greener' and 'can't see the wood for the trees'!!!!!
  13. Mines with Direct Line Stubby, they had an offer on, 12months for the price of 10.....! It was cheap enough and 'looks' pretty comprehensive. Thankfully, ain't had the need to use it yet but if we ever do that'll be the 'proof of the pudding'.
  14. Used to do a fair bit of lamping with my terriers BUT that was for rats, along the ditches that surrounded a local tip. Some fine sport to be had at that game, messy, wild an loads of fun, just how terriers like it! A good stick and a landing net comes in handy too. Terriers will stick to ditches if theres plenty on, quiet about it too, better that than f*****g off in the dark chasing rabbits, which i'll bet ya will happen. Enjoy!
  15. Feck me!!! We are all living in the Matrix...!!!!
  16. i have owned dogs that most on here would give their right arm for ,some have killed foxes for fun ,but i dont concider them a fox dog ,because they have caught other things much harder than a fox . So what are you trying to say..... Your the only bloke on here that has had a 'decent dog'.... get a fecking grip! To me, a 'fox dog' is determined by the fact that it can (could, pre-ban!) catch and kill its own foxes and has killed them in significant number. Whatever else your mutts can or can't do, is immeterial to me, or this thred, you can call them whatever you want...! the

  18. I know what your saying 2GOOD. If you 'want to catch that fox' its about shortening the odds. When (pre-ban) all I did was run foxes, you 'had' to run doubled. I was never going to drive for three hours plus (to get there) just to run one fecking dog! What i'm saying is that some of the best fox 'pullers' dont like the ivory, couldn't kill a fox! Seen some that are superbe, pulled hundreds of foxes..... For the 'real' dogs to kill BUT whatever anyone says a real 'fox dog' MUST be capable of running and killing its own foxes, single handed, throughout its working life, (seen enough 'j
  19. And the ones he's lost? They were never there anyway John! It's all spin.... I'd agree with Boyo, it's a small chance, so stand and be counted..... where you can, have YOUR say, push hard and you never know?
  20. The answer to your question Stabba is single, if a dog can't do it on it's own, then IT AIN'T A FOX DOG !!!
