I'd bet John H ain't the only one on here to have had a 'run out' with DBP. Though not me!! In my opinion his books were at their best pre-83, apart from one or two but he ran out of things to talk to the common man about after that. Maybe his experiences (or 'borrowed' tales..) had all but ran out or he just liked to fly the intellectual flag.. Either way, for me, he lost his way..! As for him being 'the best', well as we have heard, his husbandry was far from top notch. His breeding too, especially with lurchers, I'm sure Hancock said that in the late 60's an early 70's his breeding

Spot on Johnny... An average height dog will do all you need, about 23. Make sure you know what the parents are up to. There were some half decent ones for sale in Liverpool a week or so ago. They would suit you fine...

Yep, I too think its a wee bit strange.... No jungle drums mentioning anyone local has lost dogs, so if it were true the dogs are from father afield. Though i've heard of many a Saluki cross sailing off the Withens toward Blackpool a good few times, never to be seen around these parts again. I've even owned one! Never have I heard of three dogs getting off or even being dumped when it just got too hot... I live where I can see the Lydiate fields of Altcar from my window and round here is choc full of anti's and cranks, Freshfield Animal Sanctuary is just up the road and is a hotbed of LACS

The council wont till Monday mate, its game over for the offices about lunch time Fridays, even if the call center is still open!! No council has their own 'pound' (dogs home), they will all have a place local to drop off, ring round all, within a 30 mile radius this weekend and leave no stone unturned. Best of luck..

Totally agree, I think you should have a section for auld codgers. Mid 40's now so maybe I could be a part of that gang..?? As for 'ol Chart's, it was me who took him off, at his own request and though I did try to make him stay his mind was made up. In hindsight, I think he made the right decision at that time. Personally, I like the old barstuard, both on here and for a good natter when we have met up at shows, shame that he's not here posting.

Know few lads with meindls, me included wouldent go buy them absolutely quality, Seriously, next time you're anywhere near a shop that sells them, go and have a look, things ain't what they used to be. Sad really mate, as you know, I've had my old Borneo for getting on 8 years and they are still bob on. I've always thought i'd go for another pair, or maybe the Glockner but i'd check both out thoroughly before I part with my earnings. I do also like the Irish Setter Elk hunter and if bought from the States they come in very reasonable... Not to worry just yet though, these old Meindl's are

I remember when I got my first lurcher 20 years ago,there was 6 and 7 month old pups catching hares,mostly but not all on the lamp,road work ,fitness training and winter hares,were terms that had'nt started being used back then,how times have changed,and for the better I say,a lot more thought goes into the game these days I'd say sometimes too much thought mate but in the main, your right... As for when they are ready. I've always judged each an every pup I've had based on their actions and reactions when out mooching by day. I always try to ensure that their training and walks cover some
