  1. Question you've got to ask is, "has it got to be Gain???" I can get it but thats no use as I'm in the NW but I wouldn't say it was that good to incur shipping costs or any fecking costs bar the petrol to bring it home. Most Tracks usually have a 'supplier' and there are many different dry foods on the market, go with the next best thing and whats readily available.
  2. Some of the best dogs i've had the pleasure of seeing in the field have been the most quiet unassuming dogs anywhere else...
  3. How well those pups look.... Is that Pom shaved down for the hound trailing this summer...
  4. For doing a turn like that, the old boys round here say "you'll always be lucky son"... I really hope they are right... Good on ya J....
  5. Borderscot has just read this book an pm'd me to say that he enjoyed it, good stuff, makes writing the review well worth while. Did you sort a copy LPD?
  6. Ali is right in his permo advice Jcm and don't worry about starting your Lakie pup, I had one break its front leg at around six months which put it out of action for a good while, the little bugger started like a house on fire and never stopped till he went at around 12 years old, leg never bothered it after, most agile terrier i've owned by a mile...! Lakies usually make quick starters, especially on rats but not everyone is the same. He'll go when he's ready...
  7. Not quite Pip, the earliest of 'em, the ones who came over in 1066 and for about 200 years after, are buried in St Helens church (Sefton church) Sefton. Where their first house was.
  8. Hard to imagine that mate but there is a book by English Heritage that outlines Everton & Anfields rural past and the growth of the suburbs, where you'd take a trip out, over the brow, to visit a 'country pub' called the Cabbage Hall Inn..! Do you know the name of that book?
  9. A very informative and honest post Skycat. Thank you.
  10. Apologies Skycat, you answered my question a few posts back....!
  11. Ever the optimist ,,,,lol If I wasn't mate, I'd have buggered off long ago.... I have faith..!!! One of the things that sits right with me, is that they are a French breed and to my tiny mind, the French are a no nonsense people, unbound by the bullshine we have to put up with. I'd guess that in their own country, a working breed like the Picardy must still work and ain't a show dog? Skycat, can I ask as to why you ain't enveloped 'em yourself and you and your OH, keep and run different dogs, without going into the in's an out's of your marital status, you both tred your own paths a
  12. As far as pastoral blooded dogs go, these are very interesting. I've been wondering when they'd crop up on here again. I do hope this thred stays informative and 'sane'!
  13. It's very rare I post anything in the gun section, simply because I ain't owned one for about 20 years BUT when I did and read all the mags, Bowkett was 'the' man to go to for 'the' best in sporting air rifles, it's good to know that name and that man is still about. Genuine question, is he still 'the' man..??

    Paulus...

Happy birthday Paolo, have a very Fuzzy day...!!
  15. Well done mate, . From what I know these buggers can be very hard to please but you have just trumped it... Get in! Celebrations should be called for... What a crackin business venture too, I had no idea...
  16. Feckin hell, I think you'll be spoiled for choice Hot Meat.. Some top notch dogs being pimped here. If they are offered direct, I only hope the bitch is worthy.. As far as I'm concerned, if your looking for a lamping Lurcher, breeds in the mix ain't half as important as deeds in the field... Every fecker on here gets too bogged down by fractions!! A 3/8th 7/16th 4/5th this an feckin that... Feckkkk offffff.....!!!! The dog I'd look for would be a racy type, of average height, capable of taking the same quarry(s) your after on the same type of land and 'the' best dog I could find at t
  17. I lived on my own for enough years and had to do all my own housework. It holds no problems for me, though these days I don't do near as much but I do pitch in if we've had a busy week or sommat. With a little 'un things just have to be done and I'd rather sit my arse down in a clean house than sit with a hoover going an lifting my feet every two feckin minutes.
  18. TimmyK used to have a big mutt that would eat heads, only heads an nothing but the heads! Truthfully though, the dog would munch the head faster than you could get to sort it, it'd carry back but just before it 'gave' it would flip it's catch and dispatch with a crunch an then eat it with a gulp. Like it was it's prize for catching it, you could stick the fecker in a motor with numerous dead critters (usually beheaded!) and it wouldn't touch 'em.
  19. Did you have huge trousers 20 years ago? Massive..
  20. 6,1" an like Gnipper, ain't got a clue to my weight but i'm still the same size kecks as 20+ years ago.
  21. I owned a yapper once... That bitch in my avatar to your left. The first and second time I took her out she sang like a bird, boy I was feckin gutted..! Being a youngster and one i'd put a lot of effort into since she was a ball of fluff, I took stock, had a damn good think and re-located my speck, by about 100 mile to give her the best possible chances. The old ground was good but the new one was much better. Her catches were much easier, her rate was much higher and she never had a feckin chance to have a blow till I called quits. She never made a murmur, never did after either. Point is
  22. Baw, I think Tomo has it pretty much nailed with net work, especially at night, though i've seen it done well, i've never owned nor trained a dog to such a high standard, so for a dog to learn to work with such that is a hard discipline to learn. On the subject of training Blackgreyhound makes an interesting point, one that crosses my mind regular on here, that is the discipline of owners to put constant effort and training into their pup's for the first year, to ensure you have a sapling ready for the field, for whatever path you choose to work it on. I'd bet % of owners put a few weeks in,
  23. Only the brave.... Well done lads.
  24. Have a great Birthday lads... Enjoy..!!
  25. Tilly was a cracking little dog, a real live-wire from the get go. Small in stature but big in heart, willful and head strong at times but this little girl made up for it with both her willingness to please and bundles of energy in the field, she was keen as mustard. She was very welcome on her visits here and it was very sad to get that call last night. I know it's gonna be tough for Paddy to have lost his loyal friend...
