Members of a certain age may remember a drama series from the late seventies about a family called the Mallens who all had a white streak of hair at the front of their head . As I remember it was crap , but I’ve always remembered it and anyone or anything with a white streak of hair I always say it’s got a “Mallen streak “. Well I caught this little bunny in a tunnel trap I’ve put out for squirrels and it’s definitely got a ”Mallen streak “.

Successful night David ? I’ve been going out regularly, I’m seeing foxes with my thermal but they are always a good way off and usually making there way out of the field. I shot one a couple of nights ago that I’ve been seeing and it has never hung around long enough for me to shoot it . However I was driving past a gap in a hedge and spotted it on the far side of the field . I would normally try and close the distance down a bit , but I knew this fox is ultra shy . Just been on tinterweb doing a bit of research.... didn’t realise but there is a celebrity “death pool 2018” and who is at the top ? Former US president George Bush ... so there is my prediction. I also noted that Donald Trump is on it ? Hmmm.?

I’m not shocked or surprised by his behaviour. He’s a Traveler, have any of you spent any time around them ? The youngsters have no boundaries, they are bought up with few rules and bad behaviour is seen as hilarious , in fact it’s encouraged. I’m not saying they are alll like that because some of the most honourable men I know have been from the traveling community. But the youngsters are “feral”.

How many of us have had “Billy liar “ moments, where we imagine gunning down over zealous officials, tax men , planning officers or the like . But that is all they ever are imaginings. Albert Dryden actually did it , and he warned them as well . The quiet man who just wanted to be left alone was pushed too far . Sad for everyone involved. There was no winners that day .

I used to enjoy showing my dogs , it’s a bit of fun . Not to be taken too seriously . Haven’t bothered taking mine for a few years now . If it’s a working terrier or Lurcher show , a few marks should not count against it . Nor should they be taken as a sign that it’s a worker . Any dog can go to ground once , get mauled and never want to work again . A dog should be judged purely on how it looks , nothing more . Like I said they are a bit of fun , or should be .

Gin tent !!! Rollo !!! Not me . ? I help out on the NGO tent and have done for a few years now . Funnily enough they asked me to help out at the midland , I said I’d make it up on the Sunday. Well I haven’t been to the midland for 20 or so years , can’t really compare it now because back then I spent most of the time watching the terrier and Lurcher show . I’m 53 and have been reading and following this nearly all my adult life . The deer used to jump the fences and the farms next to Baronsdown used to just shoot them . While the hunt was moveing them they could put up with a bit of damage. But because they caused so much damage to the next door farms the landowners had no choice . You won’t regret getting a land cruiser . They are “the best” off road / on road vehicle there is . My brother in law is minted and lives in the back of beyond in Yorkshire he’s had Range Rovers , porch cayenne’s , he’s now got a Land cruiser and says it’s the best motor he’s ever had . Also what do the Arabs drive , and those guys could have any motor they wanted ??

My fourtrak , just wouldn’t die , I had it years , it was one of the last ones, the independent suspension model . But they were basic and didn’t handle corners well . My wife loved it because of the big flat windscreen, she said she felt she could see everything and felt safe in it . If you do get one and turn it into a pick up , post some pictures. ?

Loved my old fourtrak , I think I’ve had most of the off roasters over the years , but looking back the best of the lot was the Subaru brat pickup with an ifor Williams back . Go anywhere with road tyres as long as you had ground clearance . It had a flat four engine and they stopped making them because they would have had to redesign the engine to accommodate a catalytic converter . A real shame . There is a market for a small 4x4 pickup and they were bomb proof if a little thirsty.
