    I would say that I’m an atheist, but on a recent flight back from holiday , the turbulence was the worst I’ve known.     There are a few fields on my patch that were hit recently. I was out at night doing fox control when I saw lights flicking across these fields. I went over with my lights off and got a field away and saw them driving away . I scanned the field with my thermal and picked up a heat signature. Upon inspection I found it to be a dead badger , I was on the phone to the police when the vehicle returned, started Lamping the field again from the gateway, they spotted me and quickly sped off .     I know where you are on about and that approach will work on , “the locals “. Trouble is that now we have OCG members with dogs causing havoc around the Cotswolds at the moment. The Police have got a Wasap thingy which I’ve been added to . Since I’ve been on it my phone has not stopped pinging . I didn’t realise how widespread this problem is .     Got to say it’s usually the case with a syndicated shoot that one or two do all the work and moan about all the others who come out with every excuse under the sun why they couldn’t make it to the work party or take their turn feeding, but strangely are the first in the car park on shoot day ? Don’t moan about it stavross ... embrace their help with open arms !!!

    I think that society is starting to shun religion. I’ve been to about 5 funerals this year and they were all non religious/ humanist send offs with no mention it god . And 2 of them I know were brought up catholic.

    I’ve tried loads of different trousers, Deerhunter , swedeteam , seeland , the only ones I haven’t tried are Harkila , but then I wouldn’t pay that much . But Since I found Carhartt I won’t get anything else now . Barbed wire, brambles, gorse, nothing bothers them . The terrierman with our local pack put me on to them . He went to the states to judge a terrier show and went out with some “good ol boys” and they all wear it . He came back with a jacket and dungarees lasted him years. And in his job that is something!

    I’ve seen it a couple of times where birds don’t want to fly . The first one was a young keeper had done a brilliant job of keeping the birds , but he was whistleing them and hand feeding from a bucket and they were tame , some flew but most just ran around his ankles . The second was a shoot I used to help out beating on and their birds had been sick and never really recovered and a lot would just fly low or just get up in the trees . Black necks will fly if they are fit and wild .

    Unless they are out of a closed flock laying system you tend to get what you are given . I always got my day olds in from France and you got what you asked for . Bettwys hall are pretty good , but they aren’t the cheapest. I asked for ring necks this season but I’ve got ones with blue and green backs in amongst them . If the hatchery are using caught up hens , who knows what you will get !!!

    Getting them on wheat , it’s best to trail a bit about while they are still on pellet . But eventually they will have to go “cold turkey “ . Just be ready to shepherd them back if they start to wander a bit . I find mine always scatter the wheat everywhere looking for pellets . On the subject of bird puller , I don’t use it coz I am feeding tons rather than a few feeders . I can see that birds on a boundary with another shoot might prefer it though .

    Good work Jarvis , nice one to get . Just keep at em . I always say they have to be lucky all the time , you only need to be lucky once .

    Here’s what I’d do get some barley or wheat and start to scatter some in the margins . Don’t over feed , just a few handfuls . When / if they start feeding you will start to see them or see feathers on the water and muddy water around where you’ve fed . If the food is gone up the amount a bit , not too much . In Britain we don’t have restrictions on feeding and would continue to feed throuout the season and after . But if you are shooting wild duck you can’t hit them too often , once every two weeks is about it , otherwise they will just not come in good numbers .

    I looked at one today in the local gun shop and I was impressed. It’s a big improvement on my N970 lrf . It’s a bit early for anyone to say they haven’t had any problems, they haven’t been out that long and from what I here availability is limited.

    I see an ecologist was on BBC Radio 2 news today calling for an investigation in to the “Alarming “decline in mountain hare numbers in recent years , which the BBC reporter then went on to explain that there is a link between grouse moor management and the decline because the hares carry ticks which they pass on to grouse . Predictable as ever the BBC on or around the twelfth August every year they have to have a pop at shooting. They are light years away from being impartial.

    My guess is like has been said before, someone jest got wet and fed up and thought sod this I’m going home . I have found a really good tent and sleeping bags and loads of kit in one of the shoots woods before . They had no permission to have camped there . It looked to have been there a while, it was all wet and minging . I rolled it all up and skipped it .

    I get them in moss colour from MI supplies, they are a good firm to deal with .

    The clothing is very , very well made and lasts for years . I’m surprised it’s not more popular over here .

    Has anyone tried their stuff ? It’s an American work clothing manufacturer, I think it’s made in Mexico . I’ve been getting their double front logger trousers for a while now and can highly recommend them . They are a bit stiff , the denim is very strong. They are indestructible, thorns or stingers don’t touch them . And because the knees are double thickness, you can kneel down and not be uncomfortable. I live in mine , you can’t knock em .

    I always think of Herol Graham when I think of him . Those two couldn’t hold a candle to the “bomber”.
