  1. I'd say football fields ,golf courses and the like are not the best places as they usually have short grass and never far from cover. So maybe the time of year would have been the key when there green rabbits. And as said wait for a black windy night. Also try for that close rabbit that isn't spooked straight away. But the land that holds more will give you more chances. Try your best to get on better land ,a night on decent land is worth a season on poor land.
  2. until this is read lol and every man and his dog come looking they can mate i dont indulge in illegal activities lol good lad
  3. i would'nt get hung up on the breeds ,just get a sire you like ,try and see it work, and if it fits the bill go from there.
  4. until this is read lol and every man and his dog come looking
  5. Sounds a handful mush.....just imagine when you have all that energy channelled though,he'll be some dog ! Hang in there I'm sure it'll be worth it
  6. Bull whippet collie whippet Maybe slightly more towards the whippet
  7. I see,mine wasn't a problem like,like a hound when on a scent just slot higher pitched lol
  8. my patt x was very vocal ...but it wasn't a dog I'd have used like a lurcher TBH more a quick busher/ferreting companion
  9. I had a patterdale x whippet,so I expect a similar type to your pups . She hunted like a hound ,was clever ,was great out ferreting ,would go to ground ,but could call her out , Was a nightmare with other dogs in the home ,but OK while hunting.screamed when on scent wasn't quite quick enough for rabbits when they got up to speed . Always thought she wasn't quite there, needed either more whippet or less depending what you wanted from her . But a cracking little dog for mooching about.
  10. Ray was that the meet at the hop pole ? If it is I was down there I went up to the Downs after ,took my youngest he loved it
  11. Have you got any idea of what it takes to get a dog to the point where it could win the likes of the Forley ?I'd imagine a hell of a lot of hard work and a fair bit of breeding. As I've never ran any Competitions I can only imagine. But what was your point of asking?
  12. As tomo said its not whether they can work or not ,surely if you breed 4 ,5 or more litters a year you will get some good bad or indifferent. It's the fact that they are churned out time after time and the buyers are perpetuating the situation. Farming pups is wrong whether it's for lapdogs or working dogs. If the conditions are still as bad as they used to be they are atrocious. If I was in the market for a collie cross I'd go to a lad that has out a bit of graft into the parents and the litter. The biggest thing that makes me laugh is when owners spout breeding,as though it's s
  13. Don't think it's a matter of fair or not. It's a business and they are making a living. If he could get more he would. If they didn't sell the price would lower ,or they'd sell something else. Just never seen the sense in going to a farmer for a working pup unless you want round sheep up.
  14. I hesitate to ask, but what's a 'grow on'?growing cannabis plants,a good earner by all accounts.
  15. Money is all relative,to some one on the dole with no other income £500 is a lot of money. To a young lad ,living at his parents, with a grow on ,or selling the powder,it's easy come easy go. Some coursing dogs have gone for 5 figures in the past , if someone's prepared to pay there will be a seller. Is it right? Probably not ,but it's life.
  16. I'd be asking if the pointer and whippet are workers and if either are worthy of breeding. Also if there is anyone else breeding similar and could I buy a pup in as a litter of pointer x whippet are at best niche lurchers that may end up in the pounds
  17. Nice to see a well reared litter, with the best start in life. A credit to you, hope the new owners continue where you left off.
  18. I'm pretty sure they are all the same lamp The clulite and deben just imported and £££ added on . I have a deben one and am more than happy,
  19. Yes thats why I say saluki x spanielThink the sire is a spaniel x lurcher I think that's what he was getting at ,particularly by the Merle colouring that comes, mainly from collies. Rather than a straight Saluki x Spaniel as you say. Nice pup anyway ,hope it does you proud
  20. .used it myself when I used to train ...harsh on the kidneys ,cramps ,dehydration, etc etc And other than building muscle ,which a lurcher doesn't need,I can't see the benefits, Unless it's to push a dog past it's normal levels of work ,which will end in tears
  21. N The brindle one with the white collar is a nice stamp
  22. wouldn't the lurcher of yours would fit the bill?
  23. Ask fox digger it was some one he knows
  24. dogs will have reserves that take them past a few hours hunting , Dogs have different systems to humans. But,in saying that,a little food during the day can't hurt ,as long as its had time to go through the system. Some people over think things. Fair enough if running them real hard but most won't hit a dogs reserves on most nights out.
