  1. Get out with lads that have lurchers if you can ,it's sometimes hard to gain trust but keep at it. Get around a few farms and get some permission ,at least you'll be able to offer a day out in return for them giving advice. Have you done any other field sports?
  2. Very long and racy especially for the breeding
  3. They would be illegal if anything else other than staff or English bull terriers, and most on here are law abiding rabbit and rat hunters
  4. I agree in principal but got to play devils advocate and say what if it was outstanding in one department, ie 5/5 hares or rab's on the lamp?Cheers, D. it's also a lot to expect a dog to excel at everything (and I don't mean the odd one or 2) ,they'd be once in a life time.
  5. that's what I was thinking ferrets aren't known for recall and would take a fair while to do a patch of cover
  6. OK ...probably not the best example mate. Let's say you have a lurcher with a lump of bull or wheaten in there and it took all game well except fox ,would it be worthy of breeding from ? I personally wouldn't want to try it ,but I can see why others would that was my point.
  7. I'd agree to a point but what if fox. Ain't your quarry? and you have one of the said breeds that does well on everything that you take? Is it a cull ? What if it was a wheaten Saluki grey beddy whippet (for instance) does that still hold true?
  8. Depends on what the owner wants from the pups . Should any lurcher with bull or wheaten or breeds that are expected to take sharp game, be bred from if they don't take fox? Depends on the owner
  9. I'm with you on that one dai. It baffles me too. Wish there was an answer , because it isn't necessarily all about breeding , And as you say some will do Big quarry but not a little fox. A bad experience can knock em back ,but some will be born to do them ,just can't measure it by size or breeds in there. I think if it's in them you can see from the 1st few.they just seem to want it and would pull off anything else for the chance of a go at the sharp end . Shame you can't bottle it .
  10. You can just see the Merle in his coat
  11. His mother from a good few years back
  12. Both looking well mate ,pups a boster
  13. would you say as well, the reason they have good feet,is because they (saluki/ xs are norm light boned dogs (45-65lb) dogs, they just have better feet ray you can get 70 lb saluki crosses with good feet. greyhounds feet are probably ok on a slower dog though
  14. i think thats the point mate ,3/4 greyhound or sight hound types to be like bambi on ice when young my pup was pretty much the same . yet his mother who had less sighthound ,was a lot more steady on her legs.
  15. I have a mountain bike with an electric hub motor ,great for doing the miles, and getting up to a speed you want and just hold it there. Just need to make sure you don't over do it though ,as it reaches over 30mph
  16. Yea also try a hardware store I'm pretty sure that's where I got some from too. Also eBay do them for about a fiver .same osram make too.

  19. Glad she's home Gaz. can be a nightmare not knowing , lost terriers in the past and they've come back in a bad way ,with bits missing , Dehydration is the real killer though but sounds like she's doing OK in that department. Keep her warm and as you are doing she should come good.
  20. Coming on trig ,I hear he's a bit of a bummer though
  21. I agree regarding breeding the dollar. To what degree the poodle influence has on a working bedlington I wouldn't know, without seeing the ones that preceded the addition of poodle. It's certainly wasn't with work in mind they added it so maybe the influence is the linty coat so many have? The Poodle influence in any decent working Beddy breeding wil be so diluted as to make it no influence at all,the KC brigade added Poodle (still do),a working kennel never would.Ill guarantee pups bred along these lines have dollar as the reason and nothing more.
  22. Lovely pups ,both look to have plenty of bone. You'll have some sport with them ,I bet
  23. I suppose it could be ,or one had wanted it more so trained harder ate better and pushed himself more. Could have been the better runner ,had more to prove to himself and others?
