  1. I dug to a ferret and broke through to a fox once. glad i broke through right on top and didnt have to reach up the tube! Luckily the jil was unharmed
  2. The less permission you've got, the more you got to make of it..... I've got permision on a couple of farms and theres hardly a bunny there till you get up to edge of the village....
  3. Anyone go lamping, wait i mean, whistling and torching last night?
  4. I'll stay off my main permission till the end of september, but I have permission on a few fields that have been put up for sale so i'll hit that in the morning...
  5. ive put them in but end up taking them back out they dont seem too fussed on them
  6. I've found so many peoples animal husbandry so shockingly poor that i cringe when i see a sign/advert that says "ferret kits free to good home" call me sceptical but no one admits to giving them a sh1t home.....
  7. Dont get too worried if they scruff it and drag it back to bed..... just watch them till your confident they are ok.... i've found it pretty unusual for ferrets (apart from in season hobs) to not be fine together
  8. I've bred from my top two ferrets, and when i dig to either of them they've 90% of the time killed they're rabbit.... maybe i need a bigger spade
  9. I keep a note in my diary, and i find it jogs my memory.... i also think its strange how by christmas it always feels like theres less game around than the previous season but if i have look in the book the numbers are usually similar.
  10. ask around, for a another guy with a locator to try another ferret in the same burrow... if your is in there it might get him moving.
  11. Hi all, I've been offered a regular supply lamb tripes for the dogs... Are they as good as beef tripe? I've heard they can be full of worms, ifso does just boiling the hell out of them fix it??
  12. BASC used to sell them years ago, dunno if they still do??
  13. When I left gamekeeping and started working for myself it dawned on me that you can be the best snarer/trapper/pester out there, but if you aint a business man you're fecked..... needless to say i work for the council now. D'oh!!!! Hats off to you proper folks, you should see some of the messers round here!
  14. Ive seen all a few funny things, but the funniest was seeing a drunk lad walking home over the fields. I don't know why he ran away when the beam lit him up, so i slipped my dog... the dog thought it was a right good old game, but the poor lad threw a right wobbler!!
  15. Sometimes your dogs and ferrets mix with each other accidentally..... this winter I came home from work 1 day to find the pup barking his head off, which was strange, so i went to look- there was 1 of my ferrets in the pups run, and the other 2 were curled up in the pups bed.... lucky i made a point of getting them used to each other!!!! Just need to work o my joinery now!!
  16. Break her to ferrets is your number 1 job (if you want her ferreting) then just keeper taking her to out and about.... if she is a baby in cover, try throwin some raw meet into long grass..... begin with a couple of feet away then when she gets the idea build up distance..... take it steady and often and she'll be flying by next season....... hopefully!!
  17. Yes mate, had a few farmers and keepers expecting me to know who was lamping on they're land, "2 oclock last tuesday"!!! If the the landowner/farmer/keeper cant look after they're own place what the hell are we meant to do???
  18. This season about a third of my ferreted rabbits were dug out, that would have been a fair pile of missed rabbits if i didn't have a collar on the ferret... And before anyone has a go at me for being a noisy tw*t i was just bolting 'em for the lurcher pup
  19. try tying a dummy/dead rabbit to long stick on a 8/10 foot line and use that to get him chasing it
  20. England! Get up to the lakes boyo
  21. i find it helps when making nets, whether single pegs or pokes to start them off narrow, maybe 12 or 14 meshes wide and increase the width by adding extra meshes on the end meshes of each row (i think that makes sense????) Then when you reach when you think you're wide enough, do 3 or 4 rows the same, then start to decrease at the same rate. I find putting the belly in saves time on knots and doesn't affect the nets efficiency .
  22. From what i heard off a local lad, judi returned and put flowers on that earth... if she did that on all the earths that the f+d have had foxes from she'd have had to pack up years ago!
  23. Got sabbed by some undesirables in north wales today... some of the number plates are CU08 ZTO- Dark blue ford S801 DRO- Red vauxhall corsa XIW 3831- Green volkswagon polo They weren't abusive or even talking to us but the were filming everything.... Shame I forgot to do my hair this morning
