  1. Cool, cheers socks. I do like a straight to the point answer!
  2. I have recently moved to town, and have a few foxes visiting my garden. If i cage trap them, can i crate them up to transport to land i can shoot them on since i wouldn't be allowed to shoot in the garden.
  3. One thing to consider is just why a dog would want to chase down and kill a fox.... I have had dogs of various breeds which would (if given half a chance) tear into each other over a bone/bowl of food/bed space, all sorts of reasons, but when they chase a fox, and the fox shows submissive behaviour- running away- they dont try to kill it... indeed, the worst bitch i had for kennel fighting, i took her out bushing, a fox got caught in the stop net so i untangled it, and as she had shown no interest in them before, i held the fox by the scruff before trying to release it but she came over sniffe
  4. Crack on and deny all knowledge that the last guy said you couldn't go!
  5. Treat it like a pup. net a few rabbits and let it see you chin them in the net and while it sniffs them, when it sees you carry them around it will hopefully realise you want them. I took on a pet lurcher a few years back and she would just stand by me and watch my other bitch chase them. in the end i had to resort to walking through bracken beds till a rabbit jumped up and then i'd have to run after it shouting and hollering and luckily she quickly cottoned on! it was embarrassing to be honest, but it worked!
  6. first ferret i had used to drag adult rabbits to the entrance of the hole.... if I didnt grab them quick enough they'd bounce round like hell once they were out of the tunnel. As a kid, i just wanted to use my shiny new locator and dig to him..... how green can you get?
  7. A couple of years back i was fishing on the same stretch of river i now have permission on and there were a few young in brash piles, so although it wasn't sniding with them i should think we will find enough for a bit of a mooch. If i can get the terriers working them I have a couple of mates in the environment agency who should be able to point me towards more permission.... To be honest its all abit long term, just wondering if its worth starting at all...... no point getting loads of permission and only having one terrier pup..... or getting a few terriers in and then find theres no
  8. Hi folks. I've just picked up some permission for controlling mink in some small ditches and ponds. Was planning to try find the with the terriers and then shoot them.... only two dogs to stay in the law etc etc..... But!!!..... My terrier is broken to ferrets, will he take to mink, but more importantly, will he stay steady to ferrets? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
  9. Food is digested by dogs over 8 hours. so ours are given feed evening before hunting. i mean excersizing
  10. You only get one pair of hands, you need to look after em!
  11. Out of the frying pan into the fire, for the squirrel! A couple of seasons back i dug to a jill and broke through to a vixen
  12. like paulus says just feed him in there. or even throw dummies/tennis balls in so he has to go in to fetch it
  13. Alot depend on the weather for the previous days/nights... if its been frozen solid for 2 or 3 days and then that night was the 1st night of not frost then it could bring the bunnies out???
  14. I bought a copy off Mike Sega, at the builth wells winter fair.... if thats any help lol.... it is interesting read, but theres a few packs missing which were either left out or didn't want to be in it... also theres a bit about a guy who should be in a book "how not to keep hounds"..... defo worth buying
  15. Hi Ideation... Tried inboxing you, send me a mesg bud when youve deleted some please
  16. I always think its strange that people think that the way to rate a keeper is purely on the number of foxes he kills...... at this time of year foxes dont kill many pheasants... theres plenty of casualties lying around (no matter how good the pickers up are) its when the poults are first released and then upto the start of the shooting season that matters. (different on a wild bird/grouse shoot). That said, you don't really want foxes pooring out ofyour cover crops!
  17. If the harrier bitch is doing what you want to, i don't see the point in putting anything other than a harrier dog over her?
  18. These days say as any lurcher..... rabbits and rats....
  19. seems strange the "farmer" couldnt get the dog out but the vet could???
  20. thats a pile of wasted venison, feckin knobheads
  21. Ive worked both regularly and tbh theres little difference that i can see, results wise, but i like big chunky jills. one thing i have noticed is that i have find i more hobs make the grade than jills BUT everybodys idea of a good ferret differs, some lads just want a bolter for a few shots with the gun/runs for the dog/ flights for the hawk then you get your lads that if the dog marks a burrow they want that rabbit out whether you spend all day digging on your first burrow......
  22. ive recently bought one from arthur carter, could wait to try it. now its at the back of the shed collecting dust!
  23. when you go to feed her make sure she comes to you for the food to help build the trust... treat he like a kit
  24. best bet is to try and tag on with experienced lads.... i first thought it was like ferreting but bigger scale, how wrong i was lol!!!
