My grandmother used to make a crunchy suet pudding to go in soups/stews it was baked in the oven golden brown crispy top and fluffy inside perfect with a stew / soup I have never really found the recipe but it was basically a baked dumplin only the shape of a cake.   3. Planted some garlic today from bulbs I saved they had some whopping cloves so that will save a couple of quid Also planted out some Durham early cabbage. I seemed to have filled one plot all ready with various bits. I got the idea for salsify off that Victorian garden program on youtube and I remember the guy saying the cooks used to moan about preparing it and I can see why now
  4. There is some rust terry but its slugs on the leeks this year what has been the biggest problem. Been a bad year for slugs nothing is safe they are munching through my carrrots now the sods
  5. Plenty of toms there gnipper shame we can't get the buggers in august when its salad time. Any rust on your leeks John no matter where I plant mine I get some but it don't seem to hinder them too much

  7. Get plenty in the freezer all ways handy for cooking. I was surprised how long they kept going for Just as they are or prepared in some way? I did look into passata but it's a load of mider to make. I just deskinned a few mashed them up and threw in the freezer to lob into bolognese or what ever but I am sure there is a proper way. Not really worried about few pips

  10. Mine was a noisy bugger and that's in doors but just needed settling in. I spent couple weeks on the settee bit extreme but I couldn't have him waking every one. But its mostly just time I think to settle but yea it does seems like for ever. Nowadays he is a quite as a mouse just sleeps 99.9% of the time
  11. Think the dry spell really made it head for down under. When I got home the wife was popping some clothes in the washing machine I had to really resist whipping her on the ass with it. But I thought better of it I would like to be physically able to go ferreting in the morning
  12. I liked it boiled till tender then fried off in a little butter. The wife thinks it doesn't have much taste though but she doesn't have my fine pallet
  13. Got the broadbeans out today see if they survive the winter for an early crop like last year. keep the pigeons off fingers crossed the mice stay away few pictures
  14. As above but I think it is just a case of riding it out and hopefully when you come out the other side every thing will be fine thats what I hope any way
  15. Know how you feel main man my middle daughter 17 is well off the rails smokes like a train and takes god knows what. Can't get no sense hell bent on self destruction and sod all we can do.   17. Brilliant you can't beat it Mine did same other day I saw rabbit go to ground but he never marked while i netted he was hunting surrounding cover and put one up. I tried a good little jill in every single hole and nothing so it must gone straight in and out

  19. Well more of the same today the toms just keep coming would been nice to have them with the lettuce in mid summer mind not october but they still make a great sandwich. The calabrese is coming in one go so may freeze a few. Certainly do a lot of seasonal eating with this plot lark never get time to eat the frozen all ways munching on fresh veg Got the first salsify to try with the roast later was expecting a spindly thing from I seen on the net but this one is a bit of a lump down to a bag and a half left of deserie spuds they make a cracking mash but hopefully will get a mo

  22. I have a pup the same cross with a touch of bull though. Very level headed as well but lots of drive
