  1. Funny you should say Ray mine won't crap in the yard he will hold it so long he gets in a right state and refuses to go. Pain in the arse to be honest espeacially for him lol
  2. Our lurcher is in but next will be kept out. I think you can avoid few bad habits and his tending to get bit clingy with every one. Flying to the door when the wife comes home that sort of thing. Just little things that bug me. Plus his crated if we all go any where so you got to worry about how long you go. At least out doors in a run you can leave for the day
  3. you could try a double knot version of what Tiercil is using in his video ? Soon get rhythm going
  4. nope Just don't call the dog when you know it won't come back which sounds a bit daft because that will be when you want the bugger back. But to start just form the habit of all ways coming back. So practice in the house on a lead throw in a treat or two. But what helped me most was using the same command for a turn about on a long line. So two peeps and I spun about and he soon learned to spin around or the line tugged him. Plus it meant we were heading off in a dif direction which he liked and I deliberately headed some where interesting. After a while i used it as the recall as well
  5. Get the stock training sorted or your in for a stressful life constantly on edge. If you have any sense any way . To quote a friend the best way to stop them chasing stock is to never let them start
  6. Your mission will be to find a nice small set of holes that contain a rabbit so you can get off to a good start. Stick young ferrets down empty holes just gets them messing about. Not the end of the world though
  7. Hi there a couple of links here might be helpful. Few variations
  8. Brave men can't think of nothing worse but it is obviously there thing. Bet they would cry like babies if you asked them to ferret a black thorn hedge around here Top job ? and not over yet now they got to get the kids out some how
  9. Yes I think you are right my beddy whippet was a feather weight and tiny and I could lamp her any where. She seemed to float over stuff. Sadly didn't float over an electric fence one night. But that was invisinvisible and she had to retire after that. MY big pudding now is four times the weight and it gives me a cold shiver when I think of his last tumble. I could hear him running full blast down through an open wood. I could hear the thud thud as he went flat out. I new it wasn't going to end well then I heard an all might yelp when he hit the fence then quiet followed by a whopping thud
  10. Christ lads go fishing or some thing lol
  11. I would imagine of all the sports to pick up perm fly a bird would be the easiest to get. Knock on few door be fine and good luck
  12. I have just the dog if there was no ban Sadly there is so he has had to lower his expectations plus having me as an owner is quite a hindrance

  16. As the years go on it is more and more likely to trip over a badger. Must be the increase in numbers and they are just getting braver. Years ago it was rare to dam near never happening to see a day time one. Much preferred it back then
  17. Well I guess if you ditch every dog that doesn't make the grade in a short time and just keep the ones that do your going to get through a lot of dogs and come across some keen early starters quickly. Just not fair on the slow out the blocks ones who have every chance of surpassing the early starters and deserve a life as much as the next. But I am soft
  18. Why are folks so competitive over there dogs. Who really cares if some silly sod thinks his got wonder dog. My dog is a clutz but he does me though I will say his got a better nose than any dog on the planet All good fun
  19. My poor old hound would been a goner then lol but a year later a different dog
  20. They seem to be good little dogs. The one I had would suit me a treat now but never had sprinting power. But was bloody nibble up against the hedge and just floated over roughest of ground.
  21. Few of us used to use the cheap engine oil from quick save. Was very thin but didn't matter much bars and chains never lasted long in the woods anyway
