  1. A friend of mine is very interested in finding a small shoot for around 4 or 5 pounds per acre to more or less keeper himself and just invite one or two mates for a bit of rough shooting. He is based in the midlands and semi retired. Could anyone offer any advice on how to go about things. I thinks its around 200 to 500 acres hes aiming at. Any help would be appreciated. I can pass his details to anyone who could assist. thanks.. J.

  9. It depends whether you are talking about hunting hounds killing foxes or Hounds being used to flush to a gun. There can be nothing has demoralising to a pack than having its quarry gunned down from under its nose in full cry. A pack in blood goes best of all and a pack that continually fails gets less likely to be good as time goes on. Fox Hunting and Fox control are two diffrent things.
  10. He should slow when he settles a bit .Keep getting him out.Try not to get too excited and shout a lot,it just winds them up more.
  11. For bushing, hunting above or in the ground you will need drive coupled with intelligence and nose. Without good drive and the nose to keep up with that drive you wont get far hunting anything from rabbits to foxes. When you see a dog with the scent of a rabbit not far away and all it does is plod up and down and clings to the scent not quite sure what to do with it and often going back on the heel and pondering some more, then your chances of a catch or flush are low.A good busher would do like a good hound and drive forward on the scent with confidence and hopefully panic the rabbit into indec

  14. They are cracking pups mate. Should make useful durable dogs. I have a 3/4bred bitch. She has a red nose but niether parent has. She is a similar build to your bitch and very useful and intelligent. This type beats the greyhoundy ones hands down for alround including stamina, strike and nose. Good luck with whatever you keep yourself.
