2 pups reared together do better ..fact I agree. Pups together have always got someone to play with and learn to gallop. Greyhound rearers rear whole litters together. The competition toughens them up. I can't think of anything less appealing than attempting to rear and train two lurcher pups whether out of the same litter or not...greyhound men may well rear whole litters together...but what's expected of them??? Not a lot really...just have to run as fast as they can after a mechanical hare...they don'y need recall, they don't teach 'em to sit, stay, lie down...or to jump, or to

did he have much work in his first season?

I think you mean type.If Im wrong please say. I prefer the half cross type of Bull/Greyhound because they perform the way I like and they dont break as easy as the 3/4 type. We have a bitch that is a 3/4 bred dog on paper but who is a 1/2 cross in type. It depends on the quarry you want to pursue the most. The best way to fine tune is to breed from roughly the type you like and then in time select the best for you. For communication sake I understand what someone is trying to put over when they give me a fraction. So it does serve a purpose in Lurcher discussion to mention fractions as long has

That's true of all bull x's. To be honest they could do with a bit of coat adding to them to remove their tissue paper skin. If you were to remove around 100% of the bull from the cross and add plenty of deerhound then you'd get a decent coat. You'd also get better feet, more stamina and loads more speed. My dogs have thick hides and great feet with thick heavy duty pads. They are just Bull/greyhound. They also have plenty of stamina and so they should have when you consider what a pit bull has to endure to complete a proper keep and then fight for hours sometimes. Thats why half bull is

i have lost track of the amount of bull/grey xs that make it look hard work or wont do them unless they have back up-yet ive seen the 21/23 tts whippet/grey/sal swim the river and drop them for fun-infact smash anything with teeth-my mate had a coll/whip/grey dog 22 tts that would also smash anything that wanted a fight-some of the best dogs with the biggest heart are the little uns imo.atb There may be poor Bullxs about but a good Bullx is hard to beat. Imo it needs to be a half and half type. They are calm, clever with lots of stamina and totally immune to pain. Ive had diffrent crosses

Do you mean he has sired pups now?

How old is she and is she working?Wey hopefully they will make the grade if they are bred the right way. He's there for stud proven dog now I dont understand that. Can you say it more clearly please?

Nice bitches.Do you dig to them or just ratting etc.

envys a terrible thing.

its like a warrener vid only good.

At what stage of the dogs life can these gifted people spot the "good animal"One things for sure, picking good ones from pups is impossible. If you dont mind me saying so.Your attitude is the reason there are so many failed terriers around. Gambling can pay out but most of the time it doesnt.
-
Some bitches come from proven lines. Not for racing but for producing. Some of these brood bitches will not have done much racing at all. You shouldnt apologise for bringing Greyhounds into it. We could all learn from people who have come from generations of Greyhound breeding. Producing terriers to work should in theory be easier than good greyhounds as good greyhounds have to be almost freakishly good to stand out from the crowd and they also have to beat 5 other dogs every time. Close breeding and line breeding is also practiced in greyhound breeding.

Deerhound X Greyhound Hares Preban
jeemes replied to blackgreyhound's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Ive only had one bred by platts. It could run a Hare well but not pick it up. Only caught about one in ten. -
If the dog you were using as stud was the sire of both bitches and presumably he was also mustard, then you would bet on the good bitch producing the better percentage of workers. The percentages should improve with further inbreeding of the best specimens produced as the desired genes become more pure for the qualities needed.

True gameness can only be shown by a dog on the loosing end, when it refuses to give way. That is the meaning of gameness. There is no other meaning ,and the only true test is death. Since it would now be illegal to test a dog that far no one can claim it on this forum.
