  1. When I used to work terriers regulary I dont think we ever saw a Border that was just right, some nearly but just not quite. Not suggesting there weren't any good ones or aren't any now and I do think it was also to do with entering. I recall being surprised at how the Borders I saw could be taken out EVERY week with other workers ratting, digging, bushing but show such little interest, even when rats would run past their noses or there was a fox to ground! The Russells, Pats and Lakeys and to be fair Border/Lakeys took to their tasks like ducks to water relatively speaking and I even saw some
  2. Exactly my sentiments!!! If ibuilt mine they would look shit too!!!!! and it would take me forever!!!
  3. good luck with her, daughters face is a picture
  4. They are £230. my mate has just ordered one
  5. Agreed ^ I have just bought a nice pup of similar breeding, good luck with them mate
  6. I think this is a very good question actually!! The obvious answer of course is worker to worker from good lines! Answering the question more specifically, I wouldnt hesitate to buy from Dam and Sire that both worked from unknown lines. I have seen some fantastic working dogs from local worker to worker breeding, no fancy pedigrees, lines or breeding rationale. 20yrs ago some of the best working dogs I knew were from 'bobbery packs' that worked every weekend and often during the week to whatever was legal above and below. Cynically I would say many of the fancy ' working lines' were in paralle
  7. I am sorry. I just dont get this. Yes it sounds like a good night but GET SOME PERMISSION! Firstly I would be well pissed off if someone had poached my land and perhaps worse this irresponsible approach is what has killed the sport - there is another post on here about a lad getting his gear comfiscated by the police, how can we credibly argue against this attitude when people are just wandering anywhere. Its two offences 1. poaching & 2. contravenes the hunting Act; no permission = illegal hunting with dogs, simples! It is so much more enjoyable when you have permission. Where we used
  8. Yeah happened a couple of times lamping on the moors when weather has turned! We also got caught in a white-out once at dusk coming down off the fells! The farmer and his wife were so worried they nearly came looking for us!!!
  9. he's mine!!! ........and what a great little dog he is...a credit to Tom and family.
  10. Sorry to hear about Danny. I agree with everything you have said above. Hopefully I will get my hands on a working line Plummer at some point.
  11. This sport is less without Plummer. He was charismatic and yes invited cotroversy. His legacy will never be repeated, a fact many will not like or accept but a fact nonetheless. He loved winding the macho element of the sport up, quite deliberate and hopelessley one sided given his superior intellect. Many tried to emulate his writing acheivments and indeed his style but failed miserably. Whether you think he succeded or not he strived to creat a strain Terrier to work and he wasnt the least bit interested in showing, unlike many of the 'digging heroes' who in the late 80's and 90's were q
  12. Agree with the too clever comment to a point. My old beardie/border would stop running if she knew she was unlikley to catch and 99% of time she was right. However, my mates dog was more head strong and would run them no matter how far or how unlikley a catch seemed, BUT occasionally, particularly on the lamp, a rabbit would do something stupid like run along a fence/hedge rather than through it or back into the field, so every now and then she'd make a spectacular catch. The upside with mine was she didnt waste energy and the intelligence used at other times like when ferreting or running rab
  13. I have an old Beddlington whippet greyhound who was superb in her time and fairly easy to train, made 23in, surprisingly fast, great nose, strong feet with tons of stamina and go. As others have said something like a collie whippet greyhound. If bred right collie crosses are almost unbeatable in my opion. I had a Beardie/Border X off Plummers stuff before the Beddy cross and she had almost human intelligence (im not joking) was very easy to train and was a brilliant, brilliant rabbiting dog. I'd stay away from anything that sounds like......saluki x deerhound x bull x somethingorother x greyho
  14. Good luck with her, keep it going, enjoy, look after your dogs and dont worry too much about her jaw. The banter made me laugh!!!!...................
  15. Pity you have to sell her, good luck.
  16. Total scum. Obvious question, did you phone the police?
  17. I understand what a lot are saying about unecessary breeding but I think this guy has asked a very responsible question. He clearly isnt breeding for the wrong reasons, in fact the right ones. I disagree he should just buy a pet, why? The character of proper working terriers is one of the reasons we all love them so much and this dog is 9 and he hasnt bred it yet, and I say perpetuating good lines is the right thing to do as working blood is getting thin enough. I have seen dogs bred from worker x worker matings that havent quite made the grade including the sibling of an my old Russel bitch;
  18. Sam, I think you are spot on. It is the actions of a few that have wrecked this sport.
  19. perfect perfect perfect bloody tempted, just my type of dog......
