  2. Dropped onto the farm tonight for an hour. Managed four big rats with the rimfire. Great fun and that’s about 16 in two visits plus a Charlie. Farmer happy ??
  3. An English Macnab, good going FH ????
  4. I was sent this photo recently, a mate took this black fox on Ripponden moor, just off the M62. Don’t know how he got it but it’s a fine looking beast
  5. This is my granddad on the right in the 1920s. I haven’t a clue what he was doing with a shotgun and a fish! He was into his hunting and lived in Northern Ireland
  6. Following on from my recent thread about using a rimmy for shooting rats, I went up to the farm tonight and got started. I shot 12, maybe one or two more but they bobbed down the hole with a headache. Just about to call it a night when I scanned around with the spotter and watched this fella making his way up to me. He got to within 25 yards. I flicked on the red light and smacked him straight in the napper. Lights out, he knew nowt about it. A fine fox in great condition. He’s heading to the taxidermist in the morning ??
  7. I also wrote to a couple of local papers asking for readers help. A few got back to me and I gained lots of info on them.
  8. I’ve done grave finding in the past, once with a well known field sport author and the other with Brait Wilson, former whip and huntsman of the ullswater FH. They weren’t so difficult. I just tracked down to where their final abode was and searched locally, through registrars and graveyards. Most will have a list of who’s buried where. If the graveyard was small I searched it myself. It’s a great thrill to finally find something like that, good luck in your search ??
  9. It would be knackered if it lost its brush, it’s using it as a balance. I remember seeing hounds catch a three legged one once, and the hound that caught it also had three legs! But two legs?
  10. Did two weekend course years ago out of interest and do the odd bit around the reservoirs where I work
  11. Instant coffee drinker. I sometimes buy one when I’m out but that’s getting too difficult now. All I want is a coffee, but there’s just too much choice
  12. I have a pair of flexothane over trousers supplied from work. If you’re not after a fashionable name these are brilliant. They won’t be suitable for bramble etc but keep me dry in all weathers and I’ve been in some real heavy downpours on the moors. Cheap as chips as well. I also have the jacket, which, as you’d expect, is just as good. Farmers merchants sell them ??
  13. He even said it himself this morning, that he was very surprised given his recent comments about the royals etc. I think he’s a Cnut ??

“Peckham Spring Water” comes to mind ?
  15. Don’t take any piss but if I get a vixen in the trap or shoot one around this time of year, I drag her around the outside of the trap then place her on top and leave her. Had a few dog foxes in the day after looking for his mate ??
  16. This has popped up on my Twitter feed….this guy shot 25 charlies in one night! He covered many miles from early evening to about 3am. Look at the size of the one at the bottom, a 21 pounder ?
