  2. Why not grind a coil off the spring and fine tune it that way? If it goes a tad low on power, a small piston weight can be added to bring it back up gradually - usually makes recoil softer too, in my experience. Been a while since I tuned a springer! ATB Duncan
  3. Nice little account, thanks And its good to know you've saved a decent number of woodland and song birds by snuffing out those 2 magpies. Good Stuff!

  9. Dont be daft, you can tell that is a rabbit On a similar note, my very first thread on a hunting forum many years ago. I titled it 'Alive without a brain' i got called an anti for writing it... Basically one of my young lurchers caught a rabbit, when i got to it, she had eaten its head and one front leg, the chest was open to see inside and the heart was till beating. I stood for 6 minutes and it kept going just as strong. Now 6 mins is a VERY long time for a heart to beat in a headless animal but it did happen Some freaky schitt does happen when you're taking a lot of anima

  11. Good meat in the freezer The twitching is caused by post mortem nervous stilumation. The dog touching the back made the nervous fire for one last burst. It happens more often when the rabbit is skinned and you just touch the tip of the knife against the spine- tiny electrical current from the metal knife triggers the same nervous reaction and that looks amazing - seeing the muscles contract and relax. I'll do a vid of that when I next get the chance
  12. Hi guys, I'm sure most of you will have seen this before, but its the first time I've had a recording device to hand when its happened. I shot this buck rabbit just before I left for home (1/4 mile away) and it went from being head shot to my kitchen in less than 10 minutes. Usually I've seen this effect after I've skinned the 'patient', but this time my lurcher pup touched the bunny's back with her nose and triggered off the reaction. <embed width="440" height="420" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://v5.tinypic.co...file=k2fd6s&s=5"> As you can see, my

  14. nice shooting I feel inspired so I'll give it a go. I'm dying to know what range I'd be able to do it too (if at all lol!)
  15. Like your dogs Malt, results look good too
  16. yep! Me too. Some days I'm just 'on form', other days, I need a few shots to 'get my eye in' too. Use the force
  17. Actually Paulus' comment was right. Use the force! Believe the birds will fall, and they will, if basic technique has already been practised. When I shoot instinctively and have belief, I seem to do best. Start off the session by just taking the shots you 'know' you will hit. Chalk a miss down to bad luck and put it behind you - that's how we get hit ratios - you miss a certain number, but remember hitting moving targets is not pi55 easy! Oh, and smile, have fun and remember we do this for pleasure as well as pest control!

  22. My backsides on the fence on this one - nobody actually likes the idea of killing innocent puppies, but personally, I'd rather a puppy was painlessly snuffed out than suffered possible mistreatment in the hands of a bad owner or go on the doggy carousel. If it has to be done, it has to be done. I couldn't do it, so I doubt very much I will breed. Atb Duncan
