    Hi folks, lately, my remaining Ridgeback has had diarrhoea for a period of a week or so and then he goes back to having solid stools. Occasionally thru his life he's had the odd bout of 'the squirts' but it seems to be getting more frequent. I've tried different foods, but it doesnt seem to make any difference. Any ideas?     At end of day an air rifle is an small quarry rifle....they are not designed for quarry over the size of mink..... Mink aren't big game, and their crania are barely thicker than a rats, so perfectly ok to cull with an air rifle.

    By coincidence, I headshot a bunny at 64 yards yesterday evening, under incredibly rare, perfect conditions. That's only the second time in I've performed such a shot in 10 years, on land I've been hunting for 15 years. Current rifle I've had for 5 years and know it and the aim points of the set up intimately. Normally I only hunt to 45 yards and preferably less. Its not something that I would have broadcast normally on the web, but seemed appropriate given the thread. I doubt I'd do that long range shot again in the next 10 years either.

    Rookeries are great to have around. And they can grow to serious pest level, but they are not so bad round here. Healthy population I think is a fair description. Plenty for me to take my tithe of on Brancher day. Delicious delicacy which I wouldn't want to miss for the world

    Good point mate. I've had dogs for 25 years, but now I've got my first bull x lurcher. I bought the book 'The Lurcher, hunting and training' by Frank Sheardown and I've found it useful to help with any gaps in knowledge and would be a good book for any newcomer. I quite like his writing style too..

    Took her for a practise pigeon shoot today - as I was setting the deeks out, she was retrieving them back to my hand lol! Hardly had the heart to tell her to 'leave'. She's getting more confidant with the gun shot noise too. I'm hoping she'll make a decent allrounder. Her hide manners are very good

    Thank you all kindly for the positive comments - very much appreciated Yes I find her pretty damn solid for a running dog, certainly a lot denser build than my neighbours greyhound. I hope this doesn't slow her down too much. She's probably a bit 'overkill' just for rabbits and picking up, but I've no fears about how she would cope with teeth if she stumbled across one.     Nice one and some tasty squirrels too For the sake of our woodland and other song birds, we all ought to be out more on grey squirrels and crows and magpies. I'd rather shoot 1 crow than 100 rooks though - rooks only crime is pinching a bit of feed - they don't take nestlings or eggsike crows and maggies do. Lets start a crow n magpie culling campaign! Gamekeepers will be very happy too

    I've just been told by a neighbour that now to go pigeon shooting, you need to apply for a license and that just shooting pigeons under the terms of the general license isn't enough to stay legal any more. Is this true? He said it was down to eu policy and it happened about 12 months ago. What a pain in the arse if this is the case!

    You can't shoot less than 50 feet from the centre of a highway IF it causes danger or inconvenience to other pedestrians or roadusers. This includes bridleways, which are technically 'unmetalled' roads. So even if you are only20 feet from the road, you can shoot legally, providing you are not causing danger or inconvenience.

    haha! live and learn eh? Been there, done similar lol! I've noticed they follow hedgerows a lot and now of course they are more interested in chocks/eggs in hedgerow nests, or building nests to attract the females. Magpie males can build up to 4 nests and the female will select them based on their nests and then choose which one to occupy. Hedgerows mate - put your bait and deek near a hedgerow.

    3/8 bull, 1/8 whippet, 4/8 grey. Not sure sizewise - she looks big next to the pygmy staff, and pretty small next to the 140lb Ridgeback I just measured her/freaked her out a bit- she's 25 1/2 inch tts at present, maybe she'll make 29? she's big enough for rabbiting and general retrieving now so I'm not too worried about her final height. She should find her speed a bit more in the next few months, not that she's a slouch now lol!

    When someone says "Just stand still and they won't sting you." it's bollocks. Wasps are vindictive lil b*****ds and should be anhilated. They inflict pain for the heck of it! Actually, I once got my old boss stung...twice! Last year when the wasps were getting drowsy and bad tempered towards autumn, my then boss was in the yard having a word and one was buzzing around his head. Without thinking I swatted at it with my glove. It immediately got angry and stung said boss on his bald head. ( ). As he grabbed at it to get the bliddy thing off, he pee'd it off some more and it stung him on
