  1. Im afraid your beliefs are slightly inaccurate when it comes to rooks then Well done on getting the 5! Like a corvid Macnab I bet that's a day you won't forget!
  2. not necessarily so - my 3/8 bull x gets on pretty well with 8 cats and 3 other dogs. Introduced as a pup, they soon learn the rules on hunting pack members/house members lol! Funnily enough, outside the home, Roxy obviously wants to hunt other cats and any other prey sized animals.
  3. Totally agree mate. There's probably more bad pet dog owners than working dog owners IMO
  4. Out of interest duncan, do you have a biology related career, or areyou just an expert on corvids? I've always had a deep affinity for the natural world since I could walk, talk and read. I like to know what I'm culling and why I'm culling it - keeps me on very stable moral ground when I head out with a gun or rifle
  5. I to Dale suggested a bit of friendly mis-information - mess the messer back!
  6. its a myth that rooks are nest robbers. Thats the crows n magpies job.
  7. May 12th my friend. Been a tradition for over a century whereby the young of the rooks are thinned out by air rifle as they are preparing to leave their nests- they hop about on the branches by their nests and flap about in preparation for leaving the nest (hence branchers).
  8. The guy was the landmanager, so effectively, he was the farmer. And a b*****d.
  9. I think I may have put it across badly; I only told her off (gently) when she settled down to eat it in front of me lol! I didn't tell her off for not retrieving - that only ever gets praise and enthusiasm. Thanks for the advice and reassurance, I feel happier that she'll make good Do you think little and often is good for the gun? Mooching and only firing when I'm sure of a kill?
  10. Yep, like that one! Brings back some great memories - ex who was an erotic sculptures model to boot
  11. Thanks Ideation, that gives me a bit more hope - I was worried she'd be finding the doos and eating them rather than bringing them back! I know she's got a long way to go yet as she's still a pup. Desperate not to have any more potlickers lol!
  12. Thanks for the recommendation, but not my cuppa tea thanks
  13. Hi folks, went pigeon shooting on sunday and brought bag a reasonable mixed bag. I used a pigeon for retrieve practise with Roxy (5 month old pup) and she started messing around with it, feigning not being able to pick it up, chucking it in the air and then finally settling down with it to have it as a meal! Naturally I told her off and took it off her. I persisted though and did get her to retrieve one, reluctantly, but successfully and then called it a day and praised her up. Always end on a positive I reckon. Anyway, a little later, I noticed young Roxington was conspicuous by her
  14. Heres a cautionary tale for all you pigeon shooters out there! My good mate Dale (MIA) had been watching one of his permissions for a few days and putting in the hours of recce for our planned trip on sunday. We got there early Sunday morning and set up a most salubrious hide, replete with bench seat, lunch, fit waitress etc etc and enjoyed the early morning sun as we waited for the action to start. He'd been watching the numbers of woodies hitting the rape build since tuesday and we anticipated some good sport. But almost nothing! In conversation he mentioned that he'd said about our p
  15. Any reason I shouldn't use one? Seems very handy for my .17hmr. If I get one, whats the best way of using them? Cheers Duncan
  16. They're coming to take me away ha ha! Ps - could watch that Paolo Nutinin vid all day
  17. Where are you ratsmasher? Need a hand lol? Especially with brancher day approaching
  18. Crow shooting is challenging sport - very well done.
  19. Not really, just no what I shoot lol! I tend not to bother with shooting Rooks except at brancher day of course as they don't major in eating songbirds eggs and nestlings like crows do. If the farmers ask (they havn't in 10 years) then I'll hit rooks, but not until.
  20. I wasn't keen on Roxy, 5 month old lurcher, eating freshly shot pigeons. Today, the little fecker managed to swipe one and eat most of it before I got to it and her. Must admit she did a good job of skinning it! Told her off, of course!
  21. Very nice looking rifles, not sure about the cine projector though.
  22. Should be more than up to task then
  23. No they aren't, but these are rooks.
  24. I can be a bit and miss with the shotty, but today I shot like a god :)
