  1. Best to take them out of season with a Jaffa or a jab. Just to be on the safe side. It's not fashion just good sense Porter and Brown mention a vesectomised hob in there book nearly 30 years ago it's nothing new. Prolonged oestrus just leaves them open to infection, why risk it??
  2. Rape stubble is bad news its pretty simple really. Maize stubble isn't to good either till it's rotted down a bit also.
  3. There is still NO way two dogs on slips are more useful than two well schooled ferreting dogs, on a warren of any size, quite simply you posted some utter rubbish Cookiemuncher It's an insult to the lads who put plenty of hours into there dogs to get them to that standard. Like I said previously there is alot of differnce between a dog that is taken ferreting and has to work from a slip, to one who is a well versed ferreting dog, Its chalk and cheese and if you cant see that, you cant have much experience with dogs or ferreting. Good luck Sirius
  4. Cheers they are both Merle believe it or not
  5. I rate it as one of the best game fairs in the UK, and this year with no CLA it will be rammed I expect.
  6. It gave the dogs and ferrets a stretch, cant beat bolting a few to the dogs It was encouraging to see what was about, especially the Ptarmigan and herds of Red Deer
  7. Oh yeah? And a few Dodo's I suppose Jesus, Dorset used to be the best kept secret till a load of mouthy townies moved in and put in on the telly and on the internet, Ratreeker, are you Hugh fernly feckwit??
  8. Plus 500 nets for those big warrens? Or maybe a couple of slip leads to hold my dogs back on a warren
  9. Magwitch that box is proper, Love it "The Punisher"
  10. Look silentstrummer, Sorry If it comes over negative but some us have been on these forums a long old time, and this stuff comes up again and again week after week. ie: whats the best rabbit dog etc etc, and there are literally hundreds of threads on it. My "ideal" rabbit dog is one that catchs rabbits , is capable of taking a few knocks is well built, marks, catchs, retrieves with a soft mouth, works the lamp free of a slip lead if needed and most importantly is steady and of good temperment. As far as breeding It doesnt really worry me, all this 1/4 of this and a 1/3 this is crap, its
  11. I have some really ancient very deep places in very sand soil, maybe some go 100-200 holes, (god knows how many holes as i dont count them) It's always alot of effort for little reward, due to the depth of them.
  12. What a shitty way to go out Moo RIP Sal
  13. Are there not enough threads on this? Try the search function
  14. Ere leveller you can count the holes tomorrow but make sure that mongrels on lead lol
  15. Theres alot of differnce in a ferreting dog and a dog you take ferreting, thats for sure In my humble opinion I like a dog working loose, marking, catching, retrieveing and most importantly being steady, and you cant teach a dog to be steady on a warren with the dog on a lead too easily. I have seen dogs held back on a slip and they just get wound up, and when they are finally allowed to work free they are just too eager to be much use. Good luck on the 500 hole warrens '5 Month old pup, on a netted warren'
  16. That looks like a merle to me also? Maybe the photo.
  17. Essentially the same thing, but pole's apart also. And I believe that with any herding type, temperment is one of the biggest factors
  18. Some can, some can't, bit of age and experience work wonders . That goes for man or beast.. http://www.flickr.co.../in/photostream   you really are a proper tit. Thats hilarious, what a joke....
  19. I dont stop working my dog in the summer, we just do things differntly. It's more bushing and stalking early mornings and late evenings I should hope most people do the same, as trying to get a unfit dog fit as its done little or nothing for 6 months of the year is setting yourself up for a fall IMO. Are people that dense to leave there dogs festering in a kennel or given little excercise for 6 months until the 1st of September is showing on the calendar? If so maybe its time to give up the dogs Corn hopping crazy, not always that fruitful but the hounds love it
