  1. Like anything you get the dog that best suit your ground, these dogs if in the right area will slaughter stuff but on the other end if not run in the right areas prob won't do to well. But boarderscot seems old and wise so knows the score. but then we all should be running dogs that suit us and ground shouldnt we I like the idea of a heavy collie type I just couldn't live with there mentality they can be abit head doing I think it but silly many a dog can graft for 10hrs a day 5 days on trot if gotten fit correctly. You don't need half collie for that but like you said should be virtually in
  2. Very good litter indeed by looks of things. Bred for the modern game that is sure to only tighten in time. One note I wouldnt even be talking of breeding for many a year it only adds more expectation for the dog and a bigger hit if they fail not saying they will but alot can happen over the next 4-5 yrs. plus stop any chance of papering over the cracks if there any short fall in mutt. I be more concentrating on working it to fullest first as these will need it Deff should be a thread for all the pups progress be interesting to hear how they get on. And that big dog is a minter
  3. Recall recall and recall once that is installed retrieving comes easy. Use a toy for now or a favourite object it likes. Most pups have one. Play with toy with it, get him to have a tug then get him to let go and say leave and then throw it short distance to begin with i start with a foot or so with young pup .When he has it in his mouth recall him. Very easy way to play with a pup but it being underlined training. As at that age it all must be fun. So dont ever over do any training. you have plenty of time for it to learn. Way I do it any how lol
  4. A dog that can't take a squater to me ain't a very good lamp dog regardless the distance the slip. Obvious in crap conditions 9 times out of 10 it will lift but if it doesn't it should be dead really imo. Been out with alot of dogs that point and slip type that need movement. , but not my type of dog. Half I bet if you pointed them behind with beam pointing forward they'd run to end of field opposite direction to the beam. I can't understand if out enough how a dog can't use it brain enough to work beam well. Regards the op I've done it enough shined a spot thought certain I seem one to . se
  5. You can change that watt but never increase there at there max , can obviously reduce if after certain quarry but heads are exchangeable so if want bigger bulb watt increase head size. But IMO the lower the watt the less jumpy quarry are
  6. My muka old man owns one he had two I think paid a few 1000's at 8 weeks old bred from south Ireland . Reared like lurcher and apart from there skin there nowt lacking. Last time I was up the fens with him he won another 1500 took 4 out of 5 . Will run all day if you let the thing never tires out. Need to be raises like a lurcher and given the chance to learn about there pace and given there opportunities to gain field craft and they so well. But on that note never seen a good un breed and raised by the track but what you expect
  7. Good cross if turn out right but I wouldn't suggest anyone new to lurchers to get anything half collie!!!!!! They learn at a rapid pace the good and the bad and are VERY easy to ruine if not knowing what your doing. Plus it's not a dog that will like sitting around in a kennel all day. make sure you think your have the work for it.
  8. I can't hack a dog that is always looking for its next command. To much obedience is a bad thing in my book, what does a hunting dog really need, recall, stockbroke. I like em to figour it all out there selves and work in unison with me not me directing them everywhere. Only thing I do when out with the dogs is whistle for recall the rest they just seem to know what is expected. All the natural workers are like this IMO
  9. What sort of height and weight was this dog out of interest mate? 24-25tts couldn't say on weight mate prob around 60lb strong as an artic lorry but very very fast with pit like tenacity. Pleasure to watch him work very rare to know something's dead before the dogs off the slip but he was one of those dogs. Died at 81/2 -9 I think on a fallow stag . Broke his kneck
  10. Junior boxer written all over it. Head down poor guard. Didnt use his feet. Head down to a very good hitter. Like I said I be playing this in all the boxing gyms on prime example on how not to box at any level let alone pro
  11. Only ever seen one true alrounder that could take all quarry from daytime hare to pearl whites at end of dig or lamp ,wasnt a type of teeth or edible he couldn't take day or night. Was lurcher to lurcher of deer/grey/bedie/grey breeding. Bruva offered 1000's for the dog but the young man didnt wanna part.
  12. Pools are good , plus no risk of the hard ground , great for August getting them ticking back over. Bruv got a decent size one at his. I use it on mine a session a week seems great and is a good way In between big days or nights in season to free the muscles up again without no impact on tired joints. A know alot of coursing lads with pools. All seem to work otherwise why spend the 1000's to have them fitted
  13. The people who own and work them allready know what a useful mutt they are,its when people start comparing them to other crosses i.e. Bull and saluki types and saying they are better, they certainly are better at runs and quarry that suit them, but would be far inferior at other times, work the dog to its potential and enjoy it for that, then become a tad more realistic.Very true indeedAbout small fields we got some fields around 30- 150 acre around by me and beddy/whips do just fine in all the fields on the bunnies.
  14. Fight was a perfect example of how to box and how not to box. cleverly got seriously out classed and boxed like a junior fighter
  15. Striker variable , 22ah lithium is what I use best bit of kit I used and great for the £20 note I paid
  16. Still didnt give me price on the red one, and do you think she'l handle being doubled up haha
  17. Don't mind the one in red, how much is she
  18. Very good point, it does nowt unless dog coming from injury and giving them abit of exercise or taking the nails down abit but tbh if there out enough there nails should stay prity good . Free running is a must. Ever see a distance runner or sprinter walk every day as there training or in there off season ????
  19. See the logic In it otherwise it not a welsh cup, should be how all the country cups be run then run the best of welsh against best of english and so on, normally the winner of welsh cup runs jb from England then . There are some top blokes in Wales with coursing dogs and shows if you don't know some of them you lived a very sheltered coursing life especially if you enter comps and matches as these blokes get around
  20. The smaller the comp the easier to do, we hold private coursing comps often with say 8 dogs and then runner normally runs winner of another comp that had been run earlier in year. Maybe get 2 small comps together , must have perm to enter and it run alternate in say at least 4-5 hrs a night at least . only two people run a night and most caught on that night wins. But only works if the guys entering arnt knobs we have no officials just a mans agreement we never had problems. Comps really prove nothing tho just that there dog better on that single night/day. We have £100 entry £800 prize mone
  21. I hate the new breed but don't tar us all, coursing is legal in Ireland and if it is being spoken about in a adult convo it should be aloud to run not locking it just because its a coursing thread. . There are many a coursing man on here not just the Irish. As max hardcore said start punishing the trollers banning them if need be ,I got banned due to my spelling got banned twice until I got spell check . Enough said just get them in line. forum needs to be fair all round foxing is illegal and I bet I could find 100's of threads and pics. Just bann the shit chatters. Coursing is a massive part
  22. No c**t likes yous? GOTTA BE A SCOTTISH TRAIT Or yous think yous are the best at everything? THOUGHT THAT WAS A WELSH TRAIT There ye go choices..... Us English rule without us you Scott's and welsh would implode
  23. I find the variable power lamps come into there own on jumpy quarry I have it on a light so can just about see em then slip dog then bam I crack a stronger beam on.
