Russell's Taking Seizures.
fox digger replied to THE GENERAL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
i lost a 12 month old red fell bitch lately to fits. she would have small seizures every so often in the pen, one day i went in and she was down and didnt come out if it. my brother had a russell that had the odd one after a dig, same outcome with her as mine, she had a bad one and didnt come round.she was an older bitch and the two types of fits were probably different as my one had fek all done at 12 months so it wasnt from hard work anyway... maybe she was like alot of the young lads around these days and have a seizure at the thoughts of work!!!! -
im like you liam, id never go digging without the bar. use it on every dig. the old man has a couple of the old buck rake bars hanging in the shed. they were the bellman and flints in his digging days. he would come to the odd dig with me if i was local and a handy spot, he can still tell me the way the tube runs from being on the bar for a couple of mins and will be able to say if the dog has his quarry bottled in a pocket or leave him be that he is not finished moving yet!!

Being Able To Shout Your Bitch/dog Out
fox digger replied to bud9's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
if thats for me lukey its a bit of a no brainer really as i said already any terrier that enters the ground is capably of bolting a fox. if charlie has a chance he will make good his escape from any type entered. unless he has been hunted hard above ground and had preassure put on to make him go in. your bolter type as you call them would fail in a lot of these situations. the type of dog i use and probably the most popular type to my knowledge is a type that will enter of its own free will with no encouragement, locate his quarry and sit face to face with his game, drive his game either t -

the type you are talking about shouldnt be called bolting type then, it doesnt do genuine terriers used for bolting any justice.... terriers used for bolting foxes that would be be in and out like a fiddlers elbow are mainly the ones that are passed from piller to post and very few lads would call them a bolting terrier. any ive come accross are put to sleep as they have failed to make the grade........ forgot to say IN MY OPINION!!!!! -

lukey im curious, what is your definition of a bolting terrier? most terrier men have terriers off digging lines that use them to bolt foxes or if they dont want to leave they will stay till dug........... is it one of these you refer to as bolting types?? -

lads im gettin confused reading this topic!what exactly is a bolter type? if ye are talking about dogs that wont stay or are in and out then my opinion of them is they arent earth dogs and are sub standard, maybe suitable to some folk i suppose i dont know. not all dogs that can be called off are like this tho, i know of some dogs they will stay as long as it takes, baying and mixing and can be called out but i wouldnt call them in and out dogs or half hearted, the people that have them wouldnt keep them if they wouldnt stay untill dug to.all terriers that go into a hole are capable of bolting -

this is the most stupid post ive read on here in a long time. A man who gets to use his terriers most often are the lads in hunt service digging for packs. If they keep "hard" type terriers they wouldnt have a job for too long. its utter bull that bayer to bayer will breed shite........ my old man is an "old man" and thats all they ever kept in bygone years and before locators.... you speak digging of yonder years, how do you locate a mute hard type in any sort of deep or rangy earth with no locator on?????? i have seen alot of terriers, ive dug to alot of terriers, alot of my closest friends -

Working Terrier For Sale?????
fox digger replied to irishdogs's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
its going to be an impossible feat to get what your after and anyone that has one will be in full swing this time of year, sometimes you would wonder if you sell a worker have you sold your luck with it....... my advice would be to try trace the bitch and try get a pup off her and take your chances..... this time of year unless sombody is genuinely packing it in or leaving the country your only going to get sombody elses culls. faults might not be obvious on your trial but with time they will be revealed!! if you have a worker hell or high water shouldnt let you part with it. everyones circum -

What does the course consist of? basically a day course of theory in the mornung and then using a gun in the afternoon and proving you are safe and able to use the fire arm. then some shooting to make sure you are capable and not a liability!!
-
to get a licence for a shotgun in ireland you have to do have to do the course. Im the chairman in our local gun club and nobody that has come to us cannot get a shotgun without doing the course.
-
in ireland its the case with any firearm now. anybody i know that applied in the last 12months have had to do the competancy course.
-
well said, anyone can apply and get a shotgun and without any training go out and shoot wild animals, wound maim, not right with a dog its dead or gets away ,and I used to shoot, its makes my blood boil ,its about the chase not the kill for me atb BB you cant just get a shotgun....... you have to complete a compulsary competance course before you can get a firearm certificate.

yes long slip, if they think you are in an area where there is setts being dug regular and they "ping" your fone even when its off and they have every detail they need to know about you, name address phone number the works. id imagine its in extreme cases they do this but prob going to get more common if it proves to be working!!

also true here here

richnew i dont know if down to being rich or poor just because one form of hunting is picked over the other. personally i keep horses and follow a mounted pack, there is alot of shit and snobbery in some packs yes i agree, i keep a few of my own hounds to hunt myself, i keep lurchers and terriers for the purpose they are intended for and i have gundogs to rough shoot over, each to there own. im far from rich and work hard to keep and pay for what i enjoy doing on the days i dont work, when the hunting marches were on i stood in them to help there cause, i did likewise in the terrier trou

well done foxhound, impressive stuff and cheers for sharing, some of it will have little benifit to hunters who never felt the need to take trophy pics, also little benifit to those who are just to ignorant to acknowledge it and will carry on reguardless. (i.e the facebook tracksuit and trainer hunters) eitherway i personally appriciate the all the info and it will have a bearing on my business in the future, good man foxhound

Digging For Trouble With Pics
fox digger replied to fox digger's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
fat man read the lastest posts on the rspca topic, more new info added by a very educated foxhound!! your fone can be off, as long as there is batt in it then software used in surveillance planes can access your fone, access your pics and vids on the fone, and even turn it on to act as a microphone and they can hear your conversation.......... you need never post a pic, as long as you click the camera that pic can be got off your fone without you even knowing......... Pics and vids are for artists not hunters so lets just be sensible and do like we did before mobile fones and just p -
this is one of the most informative topics ive read on here in a long time!! a major eye opener and definatly crucial information i will be keeping to the front of my mind when out hunting....... this is mental stuff. technology isnt always a good thing by all accounts!!
