  1. No your not correct in saying there is harrier in any of our beagles. It's only occasionally we run to lurchers, the majority of our hunting is beagles only. They are faster than any harriers or fox hounds in tight cover and search better in that environment. The reason beagle isn't introduced is clearly down to speed in my opinion. There are some other packs about with beagle harrier crosses and they are serious but too highly strung for me. I hunted some of our better beagles for two seasons clubbing with a very we'll know harrier pack with a very good name in order to entice the younger dog

  4. You obviously havent much experience with beagle packs! We have a pack and hunt fox only and have alot of foxes accounted for this season, more than some of the foxhound and harrier packs close to us. Granted some of them were days with lurchers but majority were open country hunted. Havent seen one to hunt a squirrel yet.... The majority of lads hunting the harrier packs here in ireland run an odd foxhound with them to steady them at a mark and keep them put, otherwise they have a tendancy to try cast on for another one instead. But in my opinion you won't get a better day than out with a pac
  5. Some lads just think its a free for all when it comes to crossing land. Keep up the shit attitude towards farmers mate. Your right we're wrong!!! And theres me bustin a gut at times when i dont have the bloody time to go shoot crows and pigeons once a farmer rings to say hes sowing a crop and cant see the clay behind the tractor with all the birds landing in to feast. Or a call at all hours to tell me there just after driving up the field and there was two foxes circling a ewe who just gone into labour and could i see if i could come up and plug em. not to mention all the times you get the "ha
  6. I wonder what would be said if you presented a litter of young terrier pups to be chipped and there was no cert for the tails being unusually shorter than normal!!! Would they still put in the chip or cause havoc for tail docking? Another noose around your neck to squeeze money out of people. If we were to follow the letter of the law like we all try our best and you breed a litter, you pay vet to doc tails at birth, pay vet to chip and register, pay vet to inject there vaccinations, pay individual dog licenses for each pup. Expensive isn't it, and in turn what's to become of culls? Ohh yes, p
  7. Yes, like it or lump it thats the way it is. But your mentality has me baffled. you do all this giving out about shooting hounds but yet you wouldnt sympathise with a man who had his terrier shot, "love to see it" you say, and then grin at his misfortune, all because he stated a farmers entitlements...... Shit happens and shit can be prevented by forward planning but accidents will always happen. Its an unfortunate lesson in this case but the person who retaliates to these actions will be the law breaker and not the farmer. Simple as. And they will also be a discredit to hunting men as a
  8. Yup, been in the pipe line for awhile now mate. The one good thing that may emerge from it is that dog thefts may decrease as a result, and any places raided if dogs are scanned on site then hey presto. Also around here is being haunted lately with pricks lamping hares with several mutts loose and abusing farmers if they approach them. Now if they are caught and dogs scanned and no chip and they get the same treatment as everyone else and the same rules apply to them then i will consider abiding by the new rules. But as all laws it seems to be the easy targets that always seem to be made examp
  9. Just watched your YouTube video. The numbers are a bit strange! Would it not be possible to do 1,2,3 etc? What sort of warranty is on them? I'd be interested in one as a trial and put the results up on here if your interested.
  10. As previously stated its defeating the purpose to insulate an exterior slab! The heat is in the ground not in the outside air so you would be keeping a cold slab colder by insulating it! That the whole concept of geothermal heating mate! To the post author, a timber box in the run with some form of dry bedding or carpet will more than suffice to keep the dog cosy. Heat lamps or any form of heating is unnecessary and expensive to run in my opinion. 90% of dog owners have there dog in the yard with a timber kennel in a corner and they are perfect.
  11. He was here with me today, I went to him the time they tried to pass the bill banning terriers to ground. He spent a lot of time listening and voiced his opinion on the matter at a higher level. He is big into the coursing and will fight to keep all forms of hunting. He said the formation of the iwtf and the code of conduct was very impressive and backed it totally.
  12. I think your work location is the problem, indian cities are particularly horrendous, after a day in new delhi a shirt has a layer of grime around the collar and my nose always used to be filled with black gunk,i cant remember ever having a solid crap in india,it was always multicoloured diarrhoea or brown gravy that squirted, and dealing with indian bureaucracy is a massive headache. My last stint was in London mate Haven't been to India yet, only heading over in March. My nose is full of black junk wherever I'm working because I work underground in the mines!! I can't say I've had the pleasure o
  13. Totally agree ,I've done 3 years in Thailand so far and it sounds great but trust me it takes its toll, it's particularly bad if you enjoy being out in the countryside and hunting because you can get that here. If it's short term just to see the place and shag everything that moves then go for it but don't bother long termATB Hit the nail on the head mate, from the second i get on a plane all i want to do is get back home!! Ive alot of mutts to enjoy and live in the country and while im away thats the thing that drives me mad that nearly all the places ive worked are cities and its all hustle
  14. Working away since I started working. Next contract is in India for 2 years. Heading over in March, It takes its toll
  15. There are a lot of lines from bygone years still knocking about. It's usually the boys that have something to talk about are the ones that don't talk about it The modern age of the Internet has took its toll on the genuine working blood of all breeds because a handy animal can be made out to be a world beater if he is blown up enough on the net and a far greater audience can read about these wonder dogs that otherwise would never have been heard tell of!! The grass is always greener but back then they got there sport and kept mutts to do what they wanted and they done it well or else would hav
  16. Any chance of getting a contact for them mate?
  17. That's good advice - making an old building suitable for modern living is a bit of an art and different approaches to the way building is taught at college. Would the building have been rendered / pebbledashed when it was built ? Exterior rendering was really a visual thing to cover up poor quality stone or brick in my part of England, plenty of buildings that were originally rendered have been fine for hundreds of years without it, so long as the pointing is good and rotten stones replaced. I always wondered if it was different in Ireland and Scotland because of the harsher winters. That'
  18. I've an old property that we will be re plaster this summer. It's solid stone walls with lime mortar mix and a lime mortar wet dash on it. I've been warned about even painting the exterior with normal paint that won't let the walls breathe and dry out, all the moisture can only exit internally if sealed externally and will cause big damp issues. I'm hoping to re dash with a traditional lime mortar mix again to keep the old lads theory of the walls being able to breathe. Sealing everything up watertight isn't the answer in a lot of old buildings apparently.... I'm delighted to hear about that k
  19. Cheers for the reply mate, I've already mailed them and got a reply stating that they were out of stock and couldn't say when they would have them again!! I think it's lookin like the states is my best bet so!!
  20. Lads the comments on here make me wonder about some hunting people. It's his land and if was know that he was likely to shoot dogs like you say then no matter what way ye intended to go then the right precautions weren't taken. If the dogs are in an area and it's a possibility that they could run through that area then there should have been lads there to prevent it. Burning hay barns, burning tractors, killing his sheep...... Are ye for real? After reading that I definatly wouldn't let ye on my land! No wonder ground is closing up. It was yer fault ye let that happen. There are a few farmers
  21. I'm going for the Astro 320 with two t5 mini collars. I will put them on two of the leading beagles so the smaller collars will be less bulky on them, exact same price as the normal size t5 collar. £610 is the best price I can get and that's from the states and I'm sure I will get caught for some import tax on it. The seller said he will set it up to work in Ireland and guarantee it will work straight out of the box. He will also mark it at a low value to avoid big tax at this side. Does that sound reasonable?
  22. Hi mate, what widths are available in the collars? The 3rd one from the right, blue one, if that can come in 25mm wide with the exact same buckle I'd take a few of them and a lead or two.
  23. One of my best was a red dog almost identicle to the one in your picture mate.
