  13. there are some rhode island red cross light sussex hatching eggs in bradford if thats close to you. they make hardy good laying birds. the cocks at birth will be white/silver the hens yellow/brown. just verify that the cockeral used is a rhode island red and the hens light sussex as it doesnt work the other way round. .
  14. It is easy if things go to plan smoothfinish but sometimes they dont. i have had the odd broody desert the nest, the odd one kill the chicks as they hatch. also last year rats had gnawed through the floor in the shed. i didnt notice under the shavings and they killed the chicks but you live and learn. most times things go to plan.your incubator post was intresting for me as i have never used one. atb.
  15. There are breeds that can be sexed at day old. Google auto-sexing breeds of chickens. :thumbs:also info on sex-linked chickens.
  16. good bit of info there i have never used a incubator. a broody bantam does the job for me.Got 2 sitting now fingers crossed success is never guarenteed.
  17. Needs to work on his defense.A work in progress. Not ready for the big boys yet but well done.
  18.    If you do grow them terry cut of the main spear/bud first and it will produce side shoots. This will happen over a period of up to 8 weeks. always cut the ripe shoots or they will flower. Also support the plant as they can grow 3ft and will be blown over in a bad wind.
  19. They are made out of chicken wire ollie. The flowerpot end is the end to put in the hole. When the rabbit bolts the door flaps open and swings back onto a plastic ridge. The opposite end has a catch on which you open to get the rabbit. Mine are light in weight but akward to carry.I carry them in a very large holdall.I use them along fence lines next to a busy main road. Sometimes the ferret is straight in behind the rabbit and gets in the trap with the rabbit, till you get there to sort it out.A few pics might give you a better idea.
  20. You can get early and late purple broccoli seeds terry. stagger your sowing times and you should get crops from winter through to april.pest wise protect from pigeons, cabbage white butterfly, slugs etc. a long time to wait for a crop but worth it in my opinion.
  21. As above use them along fence lines at the side of a busy road. used them for years.
