  1. Stay clear of kc stock, source from a working home, insist on seeing the parents work and you may end up with the most versatile of breeds. There are numerous litters advertised, many stating working parents, some peoples idea of a working terrier will fall short of others,as ive said earlier only buy from tried and tested stock.
  2. To get on topic, any working bred terrier or a cross off them will train up as a bushing dog that may be useful as a ferreting companion etc.,there is a good chance that whilst working they will eventually enter, you will have to be ready for this and therefore take precautions, firstly you will need to have the resource to get to the mutt if necessary.A working Bedlington, imo,is the most versatile of terriers for bushing etc.,stay away from kc bred stock and source from a working home, try the Working Bedlington Forum.Take your time and make sure the dog you get meets all your needs, get out with
  3. You also put "they are not worth a wank" and you would need to own a line for 30 years,id class that as naive,in the politest possible term, put the shovel away, the holes getting deeper.
  4. I wouldn't say there all the best, you get good and bad in everything. Nowadays beddy's are not worth a w4nk in this country unless you know some who has kept a good line for the past 30 years Another who,s never seen a Working Bedlington, thus that means there cannot possibly be any, yawn. I never said they were not good,if fact they were superb in there day. I said 99% of them in this era are no good. There is still good ones out there but You will struggle finding a good workin bedlington line unless you go deep into Europe. Nobody can possibly be that uninformed and naive.

  6. I know its been a warm day but if you can,t take the heat, don,t post meaningless sh**e.
  7. If your bored why not take a little more time and think up a meaningful post?.
  8. Best lamping dog ive ever seen was bred this way,a machine, the lad that owned it would have made any lurcher a top class mutt at lamping, but this bitch was truly unique, until stolen.
  9. A lot of lurcher work, especially venison was still illegal pre-ban,most of the prosecutions undertaken now are still using the pre-ban laws, its still the same now as then, although much harder, choose the company you keep,no pictures and keep the gums shut.
  10. He,she, breeds enough, with the law of averages they are bound to produce some decent, some duffers.Pay the dollar and take your chance,or,source stock that as generations of workers in the parentage and take less of a gamble. where from??? I personally know of 2 lads that have owner bred Border bred lurchers,1/2 and 3/4 bred, non Hancock, ones in Stanbury,w.yorks, ones in Skipton,n.yorks.Unfortunately they only rarely breed, not in it for the dollar. There will be many others, its a case of doing some homework or taking the easier option.I have little interest in breeding a Border cross again, but,iv

  12. The only thing a lurcher ever REALLY needs is,an understanding owner who,s easily pleased, otherwise you will never, ever be truly happy with whats in the kennel and will always expect,no matter how the dog performs, something a little better.
  13. The more the dog sees in the field, the more it will cotton on and learn, don,t put to much emphasis on the dog catching to much yet,let the dog learn and the results will follow. There is so much you can do in the meantime to assist you later, getting the fitness up to scratch, jumping, retrieving, returning to command, stock training etc. When all this is in place and the dog as matured a touch more you will get sick of lugging bunny,s home.Be patient.
  14. Some dogs, depending on breeding, just don,t carry weight the same as others. If everything else is in place, worming, feeding and accomadation, then don,t worry unduly,if the mutt is seriously underweight then a trip to a decent vet will solve any underlying problems. If the dog is otherwise healthy, fit and lean,i would,nt worry to much.Lamb ribs and green tripe do help to cover bones. The amount of exercise the dog receives will play a major part in the weight gain,or loss.
  15. Youngsters need the work,no matter what time of year, apart from that i hate to see breeders killed,i understand the pest control etc. reasons, how many are genuine though?.Its to cold, wet and muddy for some lads in winter, the dogs killed a milky doe on their evening stroll last week,i praised the dogs, its what they are trained and brought up to do,alarmingly its the same with a lot of lurcher lads.To me it was a waste of a breeder and come the season there will now be less for me to go at.
  16. Well to me my mutt is perfection itself, thus far in its short 22 month lifetime it as progressed to an acceptable level,it as met all i have asked of her and even surpassed some of my expectations, its training and entering went along with only the occasional hitch, she tries her level best and thus far as never given cause for disappointment, she carries all the attributes from her parentage that i seek in a jukel.I don,t overface her and never push her to her limits, she will do me for the next few years or more and will meet all my requirements in the field, what more could i wish,or ask for?,ev
  17. A few like minded souls used to wager the price of the breakfast or the odd pint,as soon as lads became silly wanting to wager decent money, they did,nt get an invite again, losing money on something that was supposed to be a days sport takes away the real reason and purpose of being in the field.
  18. I was in the location today,so called into the show, realised why i go to so few shows now.
  19. The kennel club only allows a certain amount of litters to be bred and registered from a bitch,so the peddlars breed the bitch to another breed to maximise its potential to earn them a few more dollars.
  20. The last thing he was,was blinkered,he recognised the need not to be blinkered when it came to the working side of the breed, when others trod the KC path.
  21. It may well do mate, thats three out of the litter that were/ar like that. The one that the breeder kept is a bit soft around people as well like mine was apparantly screaming when put on the lead at first haha. Mine used to do the same when I would look at his feet the big woofter! if you read through this+ the other posts, this x seems have this type of temp, and even though a big dog, dont think they are tough type temp for a dog there siz.? I think they need bit of bull 1/4 , change there temps, just a thought . A decent one entered right will never need the infusion of Bull bloo
  22. Its sometimes more rewarding to look beyond whats stood in front of you,a grandparent will usually have a better history of producing the goods than a diluted progeny.
  23. They need to consider the considerable amount of time, trouble and financial cost of tending to a pregnant bitch and resultant litter, when you sit down and work it all out, going over every possible scenario that may crop up,then double it,this may give you a slight idea of what lies ahead. Then there,s the trouble of homing the pups, remembering there is allready a saturated market out there and many pups failing to find a home.I doubt any advice, unless it encourages the breeding, will be heeded.
  24. Youve confused me to,i never wrote that it aids recall, but,it certainly as assisted me with the training of a youngster that liked to cock a deaf ear at times,i would,nt see the need to couple a dog thats in a confined space, what purpose would that possibly serve?,the greatest benefit in couple training is to use it in the field or along a country lane,it aids safety, controls an uneducated dog whilst still giving it a sense of freedom and also leaves hands free to concentrate on other aspects of the dogs training. you say in the field bud so I,m afraid it still strikes me as cruel, one dog w
