  1. Ive seen littermates that have gone from 22" to 27" in lurcher to lurcher breeding, nothing is set in stone,i prefer to line breed, not always possible then you have to take an educated guess based on the performance of the dam and sire, again that is fraught with the X factor as the best of breeding may not match.I like the type of dog you own, just bigger,im the Beddys biggest fan,but would not put terrier into my lurcher breeding, ive seen the posts from the Whippet maestro and would absolutely adore a pup from his and yours, yet i believe he is better sourcing a mutt with less risk in the breedi
  2. Jabbing a dog because its had a little tear is counter productive and very seldom needed, modern folklore.
  3. I suspect a lot of it comes down to concern about finding homes for pups. Even if someone decided to breed a litter because they wanted a pup bred that way, they're still faced with the possibility of being stuck with half a dozen pups that no one wants because it's an uniusual cross that most people wouldn't be prepared to take a chance on. "Chances" in the equation have spawned many a diamond, yet much more "coal",far, far better to breed from proven stock and take the "chance" factor out, saying that without the folk taking the "risk factor" some diamonds would never be unearthed.
  4. Id certainly advocate a Beddy /Grey over the Whippet, especially a good un,yet that dog of yours carries more in its breeding,a jacket like that and its conformation suggests hidden X,hidden X fecks the conformity of a litter.Id use that dog of yours over a lurcher without hesitation, but not over a Whippet.
  5. I once owned a first cross, would,nt have another, good nose, biddable and keen, lacked desired pace, the one i let go was bred to an heinz lurcher, the progeny were better than the first cross yet again id not have fed one of them, they were second rate at best.Im sure there are many that fare better, yet labrador in the mix is breeding backwards when there are better options readily available.
  6. Why,because ive put into practice what some see as wrong, its worked for me,it worked for others before me,terriers now are far removed from their original hunting breeding and some of the early terrier pioneers would find little to connect with the "modern terrierman".Opinions are like underpants "they all contain an arsehole".Look up the laws on working terriers before you go making statements on open forum Open forums are for Honest debate,at times honesty must override the restrictions we hunt under, especially if something is pointed out that the "dirty unwashed ignorantis" may not have c
  7. If i had the opportunity to get my hands on a genuine bred grafter,id not turn up with looks in mind and would carefully transport home a Medusa.
  8. Why is it the majority of the names left their working roots to explore the dollar?.

  11. Id say to many terriers are bred now because of the name behind it looking for a dollar or a ribbon, thank feck many more are bred because of their "genuine" working heritage, looks mean nowt, yet are easier to live with,at times.
  12. iv heard on more than one occasion of a man you do or maybe used to associate with using not 1 but 2 terriers at once. Naughty man. that's me , chuck them all in if its right place Ive had 2 terriers in regular, its the only way some BIG rocks can be worked with any chance of a result. No matter how big the place a dog that's up for the job will find a fox and work it ,you just have to enjoy watching the terrier work, its why I enjoy working terriers The majority of my terriers are utilised as bushers, the reality of working a few terriers ratching about is that at times at lea

  14. you bugger. after giving it days of thought, i decided to buy in a pup, now i see the perfect dog, the kind of dog thats been in my mind fer a while to put over mt dog, so now im back to square one in my decision, but still. in my heart im thinking buying one in, im not messing anyone about here, thank you sir for the offer. very much appreciated, allow me to ponder a while longer Id not use that dog over the Whippet, its a Beddy/Grey type, what else is in the mix?,any heinz bred lurcher will throw the litter all over the place and produce pups that are far less productive than their litte
  15. I find it difficult to comprehend the argument that a bolting terrier is less committed than a digging one, thats so nonsensical it as little value in the field, there are "digging terriers" and terriers that are dug to,plus whatever comes betwixt. The majority of terriers were originally bred to bolt, they also had to stick until dug to,if the quarry warranted, anybody that as spent more than 3 minutes chasing a fox about knows the majority of them will bolt given any opportunity, often before the terrier settles to its task, thus the most useless of terrier,be that a digger or a bolter, will shift t
  16. It took me a while before i realised the main faults i encountered were often of the owners making and ego.My oldest bitch now threw to the Collie in her lineage,i knew when i kept her what her Collie nuances would throw at me later on,i still want a dog to challenge me at times and have never had one yet that was anything like perfect, saying that her brother and mother were as near perfect as ive had the pleasure to keep company with.
  17. done,several times,still 63%.
  18. have too agree with you there a digging terrier wins hands down for ma although a bolting terrier for hunt work can come in handy some lads think a dog sitting well off baying will bolt it's fox IMO the amount of times it won't bolt from them far out ways the amount of times that it will Many bolting terriers can be dug to,if needed, many bolting terriers get in close to push a more determined fox.A "digging terrier" can only be entered when it can be dug to,a bolting terrier, that can often be dug to,was and still is far more versatile, to some.
  19. You would be wanting to add a little more to what you have?,therefore id not go for anything much bigger or carrying to much Heinz factor, otherwise the litter would be all over the place.Id be sourcing a Beddy/Grey combo, that will offer you an increase in size and bulk, the drive, determination and stamina of the Beddy and the extra top end pace and height from the Grey, combined with what the Whippet offers this combo ticks all the box,s,especially for a bunny basher with other ideas.
  20. The rocket ran out of fuel,a bigger rocket may not have done so. Could of had a heart attack? Bigger rocket may have had one sooner. Lol. Nah.
  21. The terrain is the biggest leveller betwixt capture and escape, whatever part of the country that terrain may be,a 3 mile gallop over the Highlands can be less challenging than a 300 yd gallop around an Industrial site in Gt.Yarmouth and vice versa, one of them Bambi,s is used to the chase another may only ever see 1 dog in its lifetime, who gives a toss, they are off menu now.

  23. Geez there are some naive souls out there, get out more often grasshopper.[/quote Exactly mate deer's up north have prob been run to death cause every house got a lurcher.but down south not many people own lurchers so deer are not used to being raced.... Thats naive, where deer reside there are lads that exercise them,North,South,East and West, even Wales,Ireland-North and South and Scotland, the more rural the location the easier Bambi resides, the more urban the more Bambi is pressured.Would it be easier to down a Bambi in Dartmoor or the Highlands,or an Industrial estate betwixt?.
